New York Style Loft in Historic Town, 2 BR + Loft, Spa-like Bath, (Sleeps 6-8)
About Joan Morykin
I am an avid runner and cyclist and the mother of two young children. My husband is an artist who also has his studio in the building where we also run an art gallery and event venue space.
Joan Morykin purchased this Mill in 2004
Why Joan Morykin chose Jim Thorpe
I first visited Jim Thorpe on a weekend getaway from New York City in 1998 and immediately fell in love with the town - its proximity to New York and Philadelphia was perfect for a weekend retreat and I bought a small weekend house. A number of years later, my artist husband was looking for studio space and we purchased a 15,000 sq. ft. former wireworks factory and spent six years fixing up the building. As an avid runner, the beautiful mountain trails still hold a fascination for me every time I go out. This town is perfect to raise a family - there is an old-fashioned candy store, a classic 5&10 and easy access to the Lehigh River and a recreational lake park, skiing and cycling.
What makes this Mill unique
Outdoor lovers can access an extensive trail system connecting a quarter-mile from the loft to enjoy bicycling, running, hiking, or cross-country skiing. The nearby Lehigh River also provides access for whitewater rafting, kayaking, and fishing through a number of outfitters. Eclectic shops, museums, and the Mauch Chunk Opera House are all within walking distance from the property. Other nearby activities include swimming, fishing, and boating at the beautiful Mauch Chunk Lake Park. During each season, visitors can enjoy a number of the annual festivals including the Fall Foliage Weekends, Jim Thorpe Birthday Celebration, Earth Day, Olde Time Christmas, Winterfest, and the Burlesque Festival.

Dreamy and Spacious Artists Loft minutes from the center of town
Our stay was nothing short of amazing. We traveled with our 5 year old son to see my brother’s show at the Mauch Chunk Opera House. Upon arrival we met with Joan, the owner and she gave us the lay of the land so to speak. They live across the street and we’re available for anything we needed. She is super responsive. And check in was super easy. The loft photos do not do justice to the space because once we checked in with Joan, we were blown away by the entire building. There wasn’t really anything they didn’t think of. The loft was tastefully designed around all of Victor Stabin’s original artwork and it is located above his art gallery and amazing restaurant and bar downstairs (highly recommend). If you don’t want to venture into town, you have plenty to do within the building. The walk into town is about a half mile and we walked back and forth often to soak in the area, the history, the train rides and the multitude of museums along the way. If you are looking for a unique HomeAway experience this is your place to stay. And the bathroom is out of this world!
In the Thick of It
Amazing, airy, cool vibe, trendy meets old school loft. Off the beaten path but felt part of the cool crowd away from the tourists. Cook for myself or walk downstairs to eat. Sit in the garden or grab a drink at the bar. Listen to music or play some yourself. Friendly and interesting people with an eclectic artist in house/across the street. The museum and scoop about it makes me want to come back. Love that we didn't need a pool or beach to feel like we were on vacation. Tons to do in the area. Always with this incredible home to come back to. My only regret....my friends didn't come with me. Their loss.
First time thorpers
We had a great stay at the loft, very quiet and relaxing. More room than we could've imagined for two people. Their restraunt downstairs made for a very nice romantic evening. When we first got there Victor and his wife gave us a tour of the whole place and made us feel welcome. Highly recommend & would certainly come again
Incredible loft - even better owners!!! Highly recommend!
Joan was an incredible host to both my girlfriend and I. Both her and her husband welcomed us with open arms and were more than willing to assist us with anything we needed.
It’s a great property and I would highly recommend to anyone looking in the area. My only regret was not trying the food in cafe owned by Joan - it looked amazing!!!
Cozy & Spacious
Such a great setting in a quaint town. The accommodations were very inviting and both Joan and Victor and their girls were very hospitable. Very accommodating, even for my pup Bella. She loved her spot on the top of town and peering out the french doors that over-looked the street below. Oh and let's not forget the great food at the restaurant in the building too. One can relax in the loft and never leave the building for a great meal.
We had a wonderful time and hope to make it an annual event with the family.
Thanks so much for having the vision of this inviting loft in building with such great history in the town of Jim Thorpe.
Great historic place
My husband and I stayed here for a weekend getaway with our two dogs. Victor and Joan were lovely. The loft is wonderful - clean, spacious and really cool. It had everything we needed, and more. The shower in the bathroom is amazing and I wanted to take as many showers as I could while I was there! Victor's artwork decorates the loft which is so interesting and really makes the loft have a personal touch. Downstairs and attached to the loft is Cafe Arielle. We stopped in early Saturday evening for some snack and drinks. Everything was delicious. Would definitely stay here again when we are in town.
