Lodge Alley - Downtown Historic District - Incredible Location
A wonderful townhouse 'Johnson's Pied-a'- terre' in the heart of the Historic French Quarter District. Tucked away in the courtyard of the historic ''Lodge Alley Inn '' with a fountain and gas lights to add to the quaintness of this very special place. This alley connects East bay to State Street. Relax in your own walled and gated private courtyard, or sit on the balcony and just enjoy the sound of the fountain or flicker of the gas lights. Before walking steps to the finest restaurants Charleston has to offer. Only two blocks from the Old Straw Market and Water Front Park on the harbor. You are right where you need to be in this remarkable location to enjoy all downtown Charleston has to offer.
The townhouse has just been newly furnished and sports fabulous original wide plank heart of pine floors throughout. A brand new kitchen installed winter 2023 with top of the line appliances...But who cooks in Charleston when there are so many great Restaurants. Two bedrooms upstairs one with a California King Bed and the other a queen bed, private baths for both. A small balcony from the Front bedroom with view of the fountain. The living room has a half bath. The townhouse works nicely for two couples. ....When you enquire please let me know how your group is made up..singles, children, couples ...and age range please...Helps me Accept your booking faster. This was a very well kept property with attention to detail. Lots of little extras to make your stay welcoming and comfortable. Location was beyond great with a short walk to East Bay Street to many of the must do restaurants and a few short blocks to the Market. Everything about this rental was amazing.
The property was perfectly located in the French Quarter near the City Market, restaurants, and just a couple of blocks from the waterfront park. The place was clean, inviting, and comfortable. We would highly recommend the property to anyone looking for a well appointed property in Charleston!
Couldn’t have been happier with the our stay! The location is perfect. Both the townhome and grounds are beautiful and well kept. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us!
This was our 7 trip to Charleston staying in Tom and Sharon’s place. It was super as usual. The house was well appointed and in a very nice area. While there don’t forget to go to High Cotton for Espresso Martinis and Henry’s for excellent she-crab bisque.
This home was exactly as listed and was absolutely delightful. It was well-equipped, tastefully decorated, and warm and inviting. The location in the French Quarter is unbeatable and we were able to walk almost everywhere. I would love to stay here again and highly recommend the place to others.
What an awesome home! Beautifully and generously furnished, so clean, and in a perfect location! Loved the private patio area with table. Could walk everywhere in Charleston from it too. Was so nice to come back from the hustle bustle to the beautiful and quiet courtyard area.
The property was great and the description was very accurate in the listing. The location was wonderful for exploring Charlestion.

Not the Typical Charleston Hospitality
I usually don't bother with negative reviews but conversations with Sharon Johnson, our host, was completely uncalled for and unprofessional.
We booked a long weekend (over $1,500 plus airfare) with our 2 daughters who were traveling from different parts of the country.
Unfortunately, 2 days before our trip, my mother-in-law broke her hip. Her doctor strongly advised against travel as her health was declining quickly.
We immediately called Mrs. Johnson to let her know about the situation.
She asked if we'd taken out traveler’s insurance but unfortunately had not.
Mrs. Johnson advised us to contact VRBO stating she had ‘no authority to refund’. When we contacted VRBO, they informed us that refunds were at the discretion of the host. The customer service rep called Mrs. Johnson who responded, ‘no refund.’
We take full ownership of not having purchased the insurance but were hopeful that Mrs. Johnson would work with us somehow given the situation.
We asked Mrs. Johnson if she'd allow us to pass our weekend to family/friends. She agreed but due to short notice, we didn't find anyone.
We approached Mrs. Johnson one last time in hopes that she'd maybe give us a small refund/discount on a future trip.
We were willing to provide medical/flight change information.
Mrs. Johnson texted a response saying “sorry... one of us has to lose and it’s not going to be me."
We own/rent a high-end condo in Naples, FL and would NEVER treat customers this way.
We love Charleston and no better way to visit than to stay in walking distance to everything. The house was spotless and very well appointed.
Highly recommended!
Lodge Alley was in a great location and suited us perfect! Walked to the waterfront and downtown attractions. Public parking garage was nearby. Quick response from the owners.
This was a great home base for our visit to Charleston. The unit was well appointed, and we enjoyed having the private outside space. Just a note for light sleepers - there was a lot of movement of bins early in the morning and one evening there was a boisterous outdoor reception at the High Cotton. Wouldn't prevent us from returning.
This was the perfect location to tour historic Charleston sites and visit great restaurants without a car. It was relaxing and convenient to take a break during the heat of the day back at this lovely townhome. It has everyone you would need and then some. We agree with the previous 10/10 ratings!
Fantastic location - walk to everything - great restaurants within minutes and Harris-Teeter a few blocks down East Bay. Lovely outdoor patio, home very well-provisioned. Comfortable & cozy - beautiful interior decor. We would definitely stay here again! Sharon & Tom are great hosts and very helpful / responsive.
We brought two of our daughters on a college grad trip to Charleston and chose this French Market townhouse for our stay. It was the perfect location! We loved having two bathrooms to use and the little extras of make up wipes and bathroom necessities. It was so close to the city market and Bay Street. We would definitely choose this place again!
We loved everything about this property and especially enjoyed the private courtyard. The kitchen has everything one could want including high end appliances. Very comfortable furniture, beds and linens. Excellent location. Responsive host. It exceeded our expectations.
Charleston is a beautiful place to visit and this VRBO rental is definitely in the most perfect location! This was the second time staying with friends in this townhouse...loved being there!
Thank you to our host! We had a great time in Charleston! The location was central to all the great restaurants and historic spots. The Townhouse was clean, charming, comfortable and we slept great! I would stay again in a heartbeat.
We had the best time in Charleston! This is a beautiful home with the absolute perfect location! It was easy to get to activities and dining out! My parents, my husband, and myself were able to relax and enjoy time together in this wonderful home!
