About this property

Lake Michigamme-Grandpa Raoul’s Cottage

This Old Rustic Cottage is designed with an emphasis on Rustic as a remote country cottage nestled in the hillside on the shore of beautiful Lake Michigamme. The Cottage is conveniently located a mile and a half off US 41 / M 28 and the Van Riper State Park Entrance on Marquette County's premiere body of recreational water and is very easy to find. In addition to its recent beautiful Rustic interior renovations the Cottage is well stocked and features spacious decks, 223 feet of Lake Michigamme water frontage, pebble beach swimming (we recommend water shoes), boat and fishing dock, kayaks, canoe, 2 outdoor camp fire pits (firewood supplied), wild life and eagle viewing. Just a few minutes drive up the road, Van Riper State Park provides a beautiful sandy beach. Plus, good fishing, and scenic hiking trails are just minutes away. Bring your boat, two launches are available and moor your entire stay at our dock. If the evenings get chilly the Cottage is quickly heated by the thermostatically controlled Wood Pellet Stove which is easy to fill and operate. In August 2021, we installed satellite internet and have received good preliminary reviews of the property Wi-Fi available to guests. There are also assorted DVD's favorites (Dances with Wolves, The God Father Series, The Note Book etc. etc.) to watch on Blu Ray but we can almost guarantee you'll fall asleep before the movie ends. Caveat: The cottage bedrooms are small but very cozy. Also, the owner no longer lives onsite during the rental season, however owner assistance is only 20 minutes away. We’d like to thank you for selecting our Old Rustic Cottage for your vacation. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Wonderful Get Away
The home is overall cute but could use some updates and some repairs. It is located in a beautiful peaceful area and right on the lake. The owners have kayaks you can use and they have a well maintained pier. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, plates, pots and pans. If you plan on mixing anything together though bring a mixing bowl. The bathroom was well stocked with towels, wash cloths and toilet paper. The owners also, left us a tasty wine to enjoy. There is a lot to do there. There is geocaches near by, fishing is pretty good, two fire pits, quiet road for biking or hiking, decent yard to play games, corn hole and the list goes on. We definitely enjoyed our stay.

Quaint cottage on a peaceful lake
Great getaway. The only suggestion is to replace the queen mattress - it has a deep hole in the middle. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay despite a wasp sting and power outage that Justin was able to handle promptly and professionally.

Lovely cottage!
We enjoyed our stay here so much. Cottage has everything you need. So much outdoor seating with chairs and loungers. 2 fire pit options with plenty of firewood provided. 3 kayaks and a canoe available to use. Love being just 40 min from Marquette. We would definitely stay here again!!

What makes this property unique

I can not recall the number of evenings my late wife and I took our wine glasses out to the deck an silently watched the changing array of colors as the sun slipped past the horizon. Beginning with faint mauve fingers along the horizon and slowly elegantly shifting to an explosion of deep reds consuming the entire heavens. We'd hold hands across our out door table and gaze West saying nothing as our Creators color fusions made words unnecessary while simultaneously deepening our commitment to one another. I'd like to share that experience with all you hopeless romantics.
