Staying in the heart of town with easy access to Acadia, via the Island Explorer or bike. Perfect hideaway to return & relax after a day out in the park, then walk in town for dinner or evening treat.
Hidden gem in downtown Bar Harbor minutes from the all the shops and restaurants and the Island Explorer. The house was extremely clean with easy check-in and check-out. The bowl of fruit, cheese and wine the host left for us was a much appreciated touch. This was our second time renting this property and hopefully won't be our last.

Wonderful location!
A cozy and inviting home in a prefect location. Right in the heart of Bar Harbor. We had a wonderful time. Can’t wait to return!
The Hideaway was the perfect Bar Harbor stay. Walkable to the entire downtown area, yet private. The home is bright, beautiful and has the best equipped kitchen of any VRBO I have stayed in. Ann is a wonderful host- responsive and thoughtful- including a loveliest welcome basket.
House was very nice and well kept. Host was very easy to work with and made our stay feel like home. Location is great to access just about anything in Bar Harbor or go to Acadia National Park. Driveway is tricky since it is next to a couple of restaurants and people were standing in line. Enjoyed our stay!
Excellent location! Loved the house and shower was awesome and having a washer and dryer was so convenient. Ann was wonderful enough to leave a very lovely welcome basket. Cafe This Way excellent as well. I would definitely stay there again. Thank you so much Ann!
We found this property very convenient with it's location so close to town while we also appreciated Ann being completely available for any of our questions and needs. The house was able to meet the needs of my wife and 2 year old, my son loved the giant walk in shower and the 3 town parks with in a few blocks. This is the 5th house I have rented on Desert Island and by and far Ann was nicest owner I have had the pleasure to rent from!
Had a great stay! The photos do not do the property justice. It was very spacious and bright and the outdoor area was beautiful. Well equipped kitchen and the location was fantastic and walking distance to everything in town. Our favorite hikes in the park were a short 5 minute drive. Had we stayed later in the season the Island Explorer would have been a great option and would have been a short walk up the driveway. We are already looking forward to our next visit!
The hideaway is just that, a hidden gem in the best location. Ann is a wonderful host, with clear directions and a welcome basket full of yummy goodies. The house is spacious and clean, with a delightful courtyard to sit outside and rest even while close to downtown. We were close enough to hear the live music downtown but not go anywhere if we wanted. Easy walk to the shuttles and downtown harbor. Ann is delightful and joy-filled, and is a treasure as much as the space is!
The hideaway was in and incredible location and made getting to all our hiking destinations incredibly easy. Bonus for the central location downtown making all the shops and harbor really easy to walk to. It was really well stocked with all the supplies for cooking (pans, pots, seasonings etc)- which meant cooking at home was great and we saved up for lobster roll dinners . Laundry was really convienent so we could wash our clothes during our stay. Also the shower head and pressure was so perfect for relaxing away lots of miles of hiking. Ann had a welcome basket waiting for us and was so wonderful to chat with when we saw her. We will definitely be making this the place we stay for future bar harbor trips (even will plan our trip around its availability!)
Great downtown location. Clean and comfortable. Be patient with the parking and it works out wonderfully. Ann is very good to work with. This is now our third time staying at one of her places. Will book again with her. We highly recommend staying here.
Wonderful stay in Bar Harbor - first time ever to Maine and the trip was fabulous. Our main goal was to hike Acadia - first day rained and so we wandered the town and played games at house - living area is spacious / shelf of fun board games provided / 2 umbrellas available. Place was stocked with everything we needed. Only one shower but main bathroom is huge so very easy to share space with 3 other adults. Then next day was sunshine and the closeness to Acadia is perfect - we went to 2 sunrises / came back for breakfast at This Way Cafe which is excellent and next to house. Then back to the park for full day of hiking. Ann had a basket of cheese/ crackers/ fresh fruit waiting for us at check in - we packed in cooler (available at house/ she had ice blocks in freezer too) and had snacks in car after our hikes. Then walked to dinners in town every night. Never had to move the car other than to get to Acadia. I would definitely stay here again if we are fortunate enough to get back to Maine.
Overall very nice. Home is perfect, dated appliances but working. Awesome shower!!! It is in the tourist area, good and not so good. A little loud at night. Fabulous to get around. Awesome there is a parking spot. Bonus is outdoor cat, which wont bother but is friendly to pet if you miss your home fur babies.
Anne is very responsive with any inquiries during your stay. Can't beat the location. You won't need your car unless driving to Acadia or other parts of the Island. You can walk to EVERYTHING in Bar Harbor. Cant wait till our next trip back to the Hideaway.
My family of 4 had an amazing week in the house. So central for walking around town and getting out to Acadia for hikes. We loved the ability to disconnect while away, it was an amazing house for family time!
Great location, responsive and helpful host. Very enjoyable stay.
The unit we stayed in (3) was great. It is located in the heart of Bar Harbor making all of the town center easily walkable. The location also has private parking which is great. The unit is comfortable and had everything we needed. The host is really nice, accessible and helpful.
We rented the Village Green Hideaway for two weeks in early September 2024. The location is great with one drawback. The parking entrance's to the cottage is shared with the waiting area and seating station for the popular Cafe This Way. This makes coming and going via a vehicle up until 1:00 pm challenging because of the number of people milling about and requires prior planning to be sure your vehicle is facing the right direction if you plan to go to Acadia early in the day. The cottage was very clean. The host Ann was above and beyond responsive to a plumbing issue cause by a previous guest. She went out of her away to get it fixed. Our only really complaint is the furniture in the living room and the beds need to refreshed/replaced. Both queen size beds are very squeaky and loud with even the slightest movement. One guest found the bed comfortable and the thought it was too firm. The futon in the living room is very uncomfortable for watching movies and napping. The shower is by far the nicest we have used in Bar Harbor. The washer and dryer work great. Do recommend just understand what you are getting. Good value for the price.
This house is amazing and then some. It is located downtown which is a real blessing.Parking in Bar Harbor is impossible. Right across the street is a breakfast and lunch cafe. Ann’s home is warm and inviting and has everything you could want and it is spotlessly clean. Thank you for sharing Ann.
It was very easy to find the place and the arrival was clear and simple. Mrs Ann was very present if we needed something. The place is in the city but is very quiet and calm. Thank you very much for this stay!
This property had plenty of room and a wonderful location. We were able to catch the buses right across the street, walk to the tour boats and walk to great restaurants. There was a problem with the shower but the owner got plumbers in and solved the issue.
