Historic 3BR Cottage with Optional Upstairs Suite, Steps to Beach & Village

Island House is a private cottage right in the Captiva Village center, across Binder Lane from the bay shore. It’s built in the old Florida style and is registered as a historical cottage. On March 28, 2018, The Captiva Island Historical Society hosted a celebration of the 100-year anniversary of Island House. Built-in 1918 by F.A. Lane and later owned by Pastor Rawls until 1978 when Joe and Nan Baer purchased the Island House and it remains in the Baer/Terrill family today.

This is a great location with such easy walking convenience to shops and restaurants. Stroll down Andy Rosse Lane to the beach.

Island House has three bedrooms and three baths, plus a day bed in a smaller room. There is a full kitchen, a glassed-in porch, and a nice backyard. It has a laundry with a washer/dryer. For a family requiring less space, you can rent only the downstairs two-bedroom two-bathroom separately for a reduced weekly rate.


All reservations/cancellations are subject to the terms and conditions (policies) of the American Realty Rental Agreement once the reservation is booked thru 3rd party platforms.

Policies include but are not limited to credit card/debit card convenience fees and cancellation fees.

Jet skiing and scuba diving offer great chances to get out on the surrounding water, or you can seek out an adventure with ecotours and cycling nearby.

Location, Location, Location!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Great stay with our family of 4. We are a couple in our 50's traveling with our sons 19 & 20. The perfect part about this property besides the location is the "in-law" apartment. Our son's enjoyed their own space. The home had everything you would need for a perfect beach vacation. Many plates, utensils, beach chairs, outdoor shower, board games, etc. Location was truly amazing. About 2/10th of a smile from the beach, close to the restaurants but set back just enough to be away from the noise and hustle-bustle.

Great house and location

Lots of restaurants within walking distance. The upstairs can only be accessed by using the outside stair case, so that’s not ideal. I came with my one year old son and packed a pack and play and everything else I needed. The house actually had a pack and play, umbrella stroller and toys! Which was super nice. Also had beach chairs and beach towels. The only problem I had with the house was that it was dirty. The air vents are discussing. It is clear they haven’t been cleaned in at least 6 months, probably longer. The fans also had a huge layer of dust. One of the air vents didn’t even have a filter in it. Under the couch is was gross and near the TV I don’t think it has ever been cleaned. The house is in need of a BIG time cleaning. That was my only problem with the house.

The kids loved being in the living quarters upstairs. 5 minute walk to the beach. 1-5 min walk to all restaurants. The property owner is most helpful and kind property owner I have rented from. Beach chairs, beach toys and towels are neatly provided. Everything describing the house and the reviews I read were extremely accurate. Would stay at this location again in a heartbeat.

Loved Island House!

The quiet street is just steps from sunrise and two blocks from sunset. The updated house had everything we wanted and the upstairs apartment provided just enough privacy. As usual, the American Realty staff took care of everything. Can’t wait to return to Captiva.
