About this property
Adventure awaits you on your very own private island off Skye!
Your trip begins with an adventure - either a short boat ride, or a 30 min stroll across Isleornsay bay (depending on tides/weather).
Eilean Sionnach, Isle of Skye, is situated on a private island. The cottage sleeps up to 8 people. The whole island is yours to explore, offering the magical experience of the Isle of Skye you've always dreamed of.
It's a place to slow down, watch the waves and the flow of the tide and simply just ‘be’.
Waterproofs and wellies are required for island life.
The space
When you arrive at Eilean Sionnach, you'll realise you've discovered a place like nowhere else - a truly unique place on Skye - a place with a sense of peace and seclusion that's hard to find elsewhere.
All the little details are attended to. With four double bedrooms, the cottage is well-appointed and tastefully decorated, with fixtures and fittings of the very highest quality, creating an ideal retreat for discerning friends, couples or families.
Every room is stylishly decorated and every bedroom has a delux en suite bathroom. A characterful living room and dining room are where you can relax and eat when you're ready to come in from the great outdoors and our well-equipped kitchen has stunning views back to Isle Ornsay.
Linger on the hill watching for wildlife, walk along the rugged shoreline, fill your pockets with beachcombing finds. Paint, relax, be mindful. Get out on the sea or even in or under it! However you spend your time here, you'll find yourself stopping often to admire the views in every direction.
And just across the shore a traditional Highland pub awaits when you’re ready to reconnect with the outside world, or feel like dining out.
So we invite you to come, share in this special place, and discover what you’ve been missing.

About the host
Your host
After the Lighthouse was automated in 1962, the cottage was bought by Gavin Maxwell, who wrote Ring of Bright Water, a touching story about an otter called Mij.
The cottage was owned by one other local family before it was sold to my mother, Paulita Sedgwick, in the late 1980's.
I began the long, slow process of renovating the cottage in 2014 and it was finally ready for public use in the summer of 2019.

Why they chose this property
Eilean Sionnach has a magical quality we're sure you're going to fall in love with, just as we have done. There's something so special about being out there when the tide comes in and for a few hours, nobody can reach you and you can take time to simply relax and 'be.'
All around are the most majestic views and for the patient wildlife watcher, the rewards can be great. Otters (perhaps descendants of Mij) still live on and around the island, there are seals resident in the bay and a pod of harbour porpoises hunt in front of the Lighthouse on a regular basis. Right next to Eilean Sionnach (which means Island of the Fox) is Bird Island, as you might imagine, a popular haven for local and migratory sea birds.
