Such a cute house in a great location. Perfect set-up for 2 families with kids and dogs. Hot tub is wonderful and views from the deck and living room are gorgeous. House and furnishings are a little on the older side, but beds were comfortable and being able to bring the dogs
Very nice house. Great condition! Well-stocked and ready to live in as a guest. Thank you! On the other side (...though this next thing is only minor...and not the fault of the home owner ANYWAY....) but the driveway is large enough for only two cars. If a few guests (say, your siblings and a niece and nephew or two ) wanted to come by for dinner or happy hour, it is a little harder to do that since one can't park in the street (narrow streets) , and the nearest parking spot is down at the bottom of the hill, several hundred yards away. But, again, this is only a very minor issue, and of course not the fault of the owner. Great place to stay! Thank you!

Thank you for your stay. We hope you will return soon to Canaan Valley!
The cabin was in a great location between town and snow activities. Very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The property managers were very responsive to our questions and available when needed. We would definitely stay here again.

Location was great. Nice to have 3 bedrooms. But the house needs work. Dangerous hole in the deck. Outlet in downstairs bathroom didn’t work. No light in the laundry room - literally wires hanging down. Microwave held together by duct tape.
It was what we were looking for. A place with plenty of room to relax and it was close to our planned activities at Black water. The roads can be covered with snow at times so be prepared with good tires and such. They do gravel the roads in the neighborhood. Our all wheel drive SUV was capable to get us around during a snow filled weekend. The house is older but the staff was very kind.

Bad vacation
The cabin had a bad odor of dog urine and there was nothing to do unless you drove for a ways and there was no seclusion

Hello Diana
Thank you for your review. We are sorry that you encountered a bad odor upon your arrival at Styxneste. This home is not a pet friendly home. During your stay with us the weather was not the best . The Canaan Valley area experienced heavy rain and storms during your stay. Heavy rain will often cause cedar to emit and odor.
As for things to do in the area, like most places during inclement weather are limited. As for seclusion the house description does not state that it is secluded. We are located in a rural area therefore things to do and places to go are not as convenient as some are accustomed to.

Ripped couch
Couch needs replaces, very uncomfortable and ripped. Carpets need cleaned. Spots everywhere
TLDR: avoid, it wasn’t cheap and there is no value here. The location and privacy was nice. Upon arrival after dark NO LIGHTS. Nothing to guide down the treacherous driveway with hill on one side and trees/incline on the other. Terraced earth steps were not lit, glad I had a flashlight/lantern The fridge and freezer didn’t work properly. I threw away lunch meat, cheese, and yogurt. It took 48 hrs to freeze two ice cube trays which then melted. I swear it’s the same fridge from the Cosby Show I notified Mgt company see text giant cooler I had to drag that inside and use for food storage. The appliances (new dishwasher) are old and dated. The microwave is DUCT TAPED. The entire downstairs smelled like a wet dog and urine. Foul. I shut all those doors lit a candle and stayed away. NO AC house and fan sounds like a turbine and many windows wouldn’t open for a breeze. The disposal had rotten sludge and the rubber part flipped in the air during use, carpet stained, burns and ungodly filthy. The upper deck has table and four chairs only. The others are bare. Forget about sitting in nature and enjoying a tea. Check out day—the upstairs shower—didn’t work The towels are scratchy and old.
I read reviews and still thought it can’t be that bad. Even with “lake access” to kayak or fish, it’s not an added value. The natural swimming holes are cleaner without stagnant geese feces on the “beach” and an old dog wandering around. no value here. Camping is better.
Property was clean except for ceiling fans, had a good amount of dust on them. Beds could use an upgrade, hard to sleep as the mattresses were'nt firm. Basement bathroom required multiple flushes or needed a plunge. Couches are very low to the ground, so I would'nt recommend for an older couple. There was a statement in the contract asking us to pull the linen off the beds and to toss a load in the laundry before leaving, could'nt understand that since a cleaning fee was included in the price. Nice cabin otherwise.
The house was clean inside, but it needs some care. The plumbing is an issue. The upstairs bathroom was basically useless as the toilet and tub didn't drain, we needed a plunger. We just quit using that bathroom. The decks aren't very welcoming. They really needed power washed, as there was a good deal of mildew on the deck, some windows and the chairs. The white movable chairs on the decks were just dirty and had a lot of mildew. The doors to the deck on the lower floor wouldn't open. Maybe this is by design. I don't know
We enjoyed the property but were surprised with the hidden fees that were added on. Would have been better to include it with daily rate. Otherwise it was great
This location has easy access to the towns of Thomas and Davis, as well as great proximity to Blackwater Falls SP, Canaan Valley, Dolly Sods, and several ski resorts. This area has lots of activities for all season fun. House was clean and had a well-equipped kitchen. It had plenty of space for our group of 5 with 3 BD and 3 BA.

Thank you for your stay. We hope you will return soon to Canaan Valley!
Nice. roomy cabin. Kitchen well furnished with cooking supplies. Ceiling fans very dusty and needed a cleaning, Broken glass on the back porch. Other than that we were happy with the place for the price.
Great location, equidistant from the towns of Davis and Thomas and slopes. Nice house, immaculately clean and well stocked. Cons: the place is full of stairs and steps - guests with limited mobility will be challenged both outside and inside. Incredibly loud attic fan.
In general, a lovely stay!
Great property, spacious and comfortable. Had all we needed in terms of cookware and utensils to make big meals for the family. The large appliances need updating, but for the short weekend it works!
The cabin is spacious and comfortable. Nested in the trees it feels like a treehouse! It is near lots of hiking and restaurants/food in Davis and Thomas. Only critique is some of appliances and rugs are outdated/need to be replaced. Otherwise a wonderful place to stay!
The place was beautiful. There were three beautiful full bathrooms but, everyone had to shower in a small stall in one of the bathrooms because you can’t shower in the other two. Very inconvenient for the group. The loft mattress needs replaced. You both end up rolling to the middle.
