We were here for 5 nights while our daughter got situated at Newcastle University. Very convenient location to the Central Train station and to the University. Also close to shopping, restaurants and coffee shops. Everything we needed was in the apartment. Especially appreciated the clothes drying rack as we made good use of the washer but preferred to air dry. For part of the time, there were 3 of us there and it was comfortable. Would stay there again.

Very nice flat , everything there that you could need, very quiet, spotlessly clean, good shower
We had a very nice city break in Newcastle, at Stephens St James Gate flat, excellent parking facility , we walked and got public transport to get around which with the flat being so central was easy. Stephen was very good with information and promptly replied to any query we had, security deposit was returned quickly.
All in all a very enjoyable city break

Property was clean and equipped as expected.Quiet building with security.
THis was our first experience renting in Newcastle and were somewhat concerned about the amenities. The owner provided excellent instructions on how to find the location , parking and entrance. The only drawback was the proximaty of parking to the rental. Its a bit of a hike especially if you are carrying shopping. You can park in the courtyard for a brief unloading .

Great apartment in Newcastle
this was our second stay at this apartment, it has got everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. The owner was very helpful and kept us well informed. Central station is just around the corner and if you drive it is very easy to find and has secure parking in the next road. All the bars and restaurants are within a short walk.

The Bar Stay May 2018
This is a beautifully maintained apartment, I loved the powerful shower. The location is great, close to all transportation. A short walk to Clayton street and the Intu shopping centre. The view from the balcony is great, looking up Westgate Hill and the Discovery Museum. The parking that comes with the apartment is a great bonus.

Loved this place
Had an amazing stay here and can recommend it to others. The apartment was spotless and could easily have featured in a home lifestyle magazine. Stayed here for 3 nights, but wish we could have stayed longer. Great location in Newcastle City Centre. Lovely comfy bed so had a perfect nights sleep. A welcome tray with tea's, coffee's and biscuits was nice on arrival after a long drive. The Smart TV in the lounge was also a really good, it meant we could watch NETFLIX in the evening and catch up on some of our favourite Box Sets. I'm also a football fan so having BT Sport was a bonus. Loved this place and will return again soon with my partner.

Only for a short stay of a day or two
This apartment is attractive, clean and centrally located for good transportation options. However, little thought has been given to how the apartment should function for longer stays (I was there for one month). There is no dresser to put items like underwear, socks, jewelry, etc. so those items must stay in your suitcase. Since there is no luggage rack your suitcase remains on the floor. In the bathroom there is no shelf for toothpaste, hairbrush, etc. and no hook to hang clothes. No electric outlet in the bathroom for a hairdryer. The clothes dryer did not work so you can't depend on laundered clothes being dry in the morning. While centrally located the apartment is also in an area for rock concerts and loud late night bar hopping which is not conducive to a good night's sleep. I was given the wrong code number for the building which left me out in the rain and wind waiting for someone to enter or leave the building so I could get in. These are details that do not make for a pleasant stay. However the owner did quickly replace the soiled mattress with a new one and he had the apartment cleaned once each week. That was appreciated.

Had to cancel
When we arrived at the apartment, we could not get in with the code that Stephen had sent us. We called Stephen, and he said he had changed it, but forgot to email the new code to us. As soon as we opened the door to the apartment, we were hit with the smell of smoke. Upon calling Stephen again, he said his cleaning people had told him that the previous renters had not taken very good care of the place and had smoked. I can only guess there was more than one person smoking as the smell was strong.
Stephen did offer a refund, but we had to find another place to stay, and lug our luggage to the hotel I found, we were visiting from out of the country, so no car... We ended up staying at Hotel Indigo, a very lovely hotel. I did have to email a few times due to partial and not full refund, and I still ended up paying the booking fee!
Writing a negative review is not something I would normally do, but I feel this could have been handled more honestly. From my perspective, Stephen should have emailed us immediately with the information his cleaning people had shared. I can only guess he hoped we wouldn't notice, or would just deal with it. And, he should have made sure we had the correct entry key so we weren't standing in the hallway with our luggage. Again, I am guessing he had it changed after the previous tenants checked out, given the state of the apartment.
As for the actual apartment, it is sparse with just the bare minimums. The walls need to be repainted badly. There were several stains on the walls. We have rented houses and apartments from VRBO on several occasions, and this is the first time there was nothing as far as information about the area and a welcome note of some sort. Being tourists, we always appreciate the information the owner shares with us about the area. Again, what is there is very basic; not even tea or coffee in the cabinet.
After leaving Newcastle, we traveled to our VRBO rental in York, which was lovely.

Response from VrboOwner on 1 Apr 2020
The guest contacted me upon arriving at the apartment to state they were not happy. As we'd had problems with the previous guest, I allowed them to find alternative accommodation and offered the guest a FULL REFUND. This was actioned straight away by VRBO (Owners Direct) and they have since confirmed the guest was refunded in full.
I can also confirm that since this booking, the property has been redecorated throughout and we are in the process of creating a local guide for guests, as well as supplying tea and coffee on arrival.
Please also take the time to read our other 5* reviews from previous satisfied guests.

Great location and well presented!
The location was fantastic for getting everywhere. The life centre was opposite, china town, Eldon square(for good food and drink, shopping) and the academy was only 5mins away. The apartment had everything we needed and the blow up was fantastic in the living room. We will definitely be back. 5* well deserved.

Great flat, quiet location
My husband and I spent a week in this lovely St James flat in November (2016). Everything we needed, comfortable furniture, quiet, and most of all, a great location! Easy walking distance from the rail and metro at Newcastle Central, plus many bus lines close by. Steve was very helpful, sent complete instructions for access and use, responded right away to our emails when we had questions, and refunded the security deposit promptly. We would definitely stay here again when visiting the area.

Clean, convenient and fun
My husband and I stayed here for a week in October. I used to live in Newcastle, so I knew the location would be great for a night out, and for travel to the train station. The apartment itself was lovely! All of the "little" amenities that we overlooked (soap, towels, hair dryer, etc) were all provided, so we didn't have to rush back out upon our arrival. The bed was extremely comfortable, and there were plenty of blankets and pillows. The living area was spacious, and having a washing machine was a huge convenience. Because of the location, you can walk virtually anywhere in Newcastle in 20 minutes or less. If you don't want to go out every night, there is a smart TV in the living room, so you can watch Netflix or TV on demand. If you're doing any other traveling while there, the train station is literally right around the corner. It's about a 5 minute walk, if you cut through the Life building courtyard.
It was a lovely stay, and we'd recommend it to anyone traveling to the area.
Disclaimer to anyone traveling from the States: the "dryer" setting on UK washer/dryers is not like in America. You will need to utilize a drying rack (provided) in order to dry your clothes. Luckily I was already aware of this, but some people may not know. Use the dryer setting to "re-fluff" after hanging to dry.

A canny weekend
We come over to Newcastle quite a lot and usually stay in a hotel but having found this little gem we will definitely be staying here again. It has everything you need to chill, visit the city and surrounding area and enjoy the plentiful nightlife on offer in Newcastle.
Get up in a morning no need to rush round finding somewhere to have breakfast because you can have yours whilst relaxing in your jimjams and watching the news on T.V.
Don't fancy eating out? or even going out because you've had a busy day sightseeing? No problem when you stay here because you have everything on hand to do whatever you want.
The apartment is spacious, spotless and equipped with everything you could possibly need and although you are in the middle of the nightlife it doesn't disturb your sleep and neither do rowdy neighbours or guests because it's a residential block everyone seems really respectful of others (which you don't always get when you stay in hotels).
The owner contacted us on arrival to make sure everything was good and that we had arrived safe and sound which I thought was a really nice touch and made us feel as though nothing would be too much trouble.
On the Friday we ate at a Tapas bar near the hospital and university called EL Coto its a lovely atmosphere and the food is delicious and well priced. We always eat there on the Friday (it's my sons favourite place) and although busy they always manage to squeeze us in.
We ate at Browns on Grey Street on the Saturday a nice up market bistro I enjoyed mine but Mr M thought his was a bit overpriced for basically chicken and chips. He also got a dirty glass and was none too pleased. Plus side the salted caramel profiter rolls were lush.
Other things to do Beamish museum is brilliant and once you've paid you can visit as many times as you like in a year excellent value because you would be hard pressed to get round it all in a day. Also the Life Science Centre is worth a visit the Animals inside out exhibition was on when we visited really interesting.
Love Newcastle love it even more now I've discovered this place xx

Enjoyable city break
My son and I spent a weekend in Newcastle last weekend. Don't tell anyone but we were going to watch Sunderland playing football.
We chose the flat because it looked modern and was centrally situated near the main rail station. When we arrived it took less than five minutes to walk from the station to the flat.
The flat was spotless when we arrived and was warm and bright. Everything you might need was there. It is situated within 15 minutes walk of the main shopping area, quayside entertainment and bars and if you are football fan you can see St James Park from the balcony. There are several bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. We visited a couple of them. The locals were very welcoming and friendly, typical of most Geordies. We felt very safe walking around the city. When doing this we came across an Indian restaurant called Sachin's We would highly suggest that you pay this a visit. Despite being near a main road the flat was quiet at night with little or no loud noise.
Stephen kept in touch before we left Glasgow to give information about how to access the property. We were offered free parking but chose to travel by train. Stephen contacted us after our arrival to check that all was well. Entry to the flat was straightforward as was leaving.
All in all we had a great weekend. The flat is an ideal base from which to explore Newcastle and its surrounding area. I would thoroughly recommend this flat as a place to stay if you want to spend a few days in a great city.
We would definitely use this flat again
