Adorable quaint cottage on beautiful Goodyear Lake
Our family had a lovely time at this cozy, quaint cottage on the lake. So intimate and homey. A peaceful and lovely lake escape in beautiful upstate New York. Perfect for a Cooperstown baseball family visit! Very sunny and bright. Great dock area for swimming and relaxing/reading! Kind and endearing owners.

Thank you for your review, Mara. We enjoyed having you and your family as guests
Great spot on the water! So peaceful and relaxing place to enjoy. No AC, which we knew going in, so early July and an exceptionally hot week made it a little rough. The hosts do not want guests so maybe not the best place to stay if you’re there for baseball. She did offer some flexibility after we talked about it as long as you communicate with her she’d allow small group of visitors— if you provide names of all guests coming. They do stay on the property with you while you are there in the garage above the house, so felt a bit strange. Not a VRBO experience that we were used to. All in all, pleased with the stay.

Some people should not rent
The owner of this property does not want to rent it and doesn't want you in their home. They stayed in the apartment above the garage and monitored us during our stay. They had very specific instructions on every light switch, screen door, appliance, trash process, parking location, etc.... All of which were explained during a 30 min walkthrough and outlined with sticky notes. At one point the owner was pruning her trees outside the window to the bathroom while one of our female guests was using it. To clarify, the lady was nice but she should not rent her property because she clearly doesn't want people there.

To begin with, none of what she says is true. We do stay in the apartment above the house sometimes, but in no way monitor our guests coming and going.
We love renting our house and have done so for years. The walk through is to inform guests of the operation of the house. Only one person was in the walk through so I left my notes on the desk for the other guests.
The original reservation was specified at four adults. Not only did they exceed their reservation limit, but also the maximum occupancy for the house.
Katie was informed that the occupancy limit is six, but proceeded to exceed that with seven guests.
In closing, we have rented for years with minimal problems and intend to continue to do so.

Disliked: Cleanliness, listing accuracy
good and bad, Lot of rules that are not listed
The good: Owners were super nice people. The house was as the pictures had shown, beautiful view of Goodyear lake. Nice deck and yard.
The bad: The place wasn’t quite ready at check in time. The owners stayed on the property for the first half of our trip. We wanted to rent a boat for the week however we were told we could not dock it at the property even though listing advertises tubing as something to do. There is a no guest policy which is not stated on the listing. Most places have a policy against team parties which I completely understand, but to not be able to have a friend over seemed over the top. Not allowed to have a fire,. We had to buy ant traps to put out because ants were crawling around. There s no Air conditioning which made it really uncomfortable to sleep at night. There appeared to be something resembling mouse droppings under the couch cushion. We ended up leaving a day early and staying in a hotel.

1. The guests called and asked to come earlier than the check in time. We told them that they could not. They came a little early anyway so even though a couple of the beds were not made. I took off time to do the walk through. The other couple was not there yet so I asked them to share the information with them. I then finished making the beds while they unloaded their car. This did take about 1/2 hour. They said there was no problem with this.
2. The listing states no Boats, no Fires, and no additional guests (our permit only allows those listed on the rental). It also states no air conditioning. There are fans in every room and the nights are cool. We have an apartment on the property and we were very comfortable. When we stay in the apartment we do not set foot on the property other than in & out our front door on the the road. Tubing and wake boarding is available through a vendor on the lake. The same for Kayaks.
3. We were there at the cottage for 2 months prior to their arrival and put out ant traps as part of our regular routine. There were no ants seen in the house. There were no additional ant traps found that they purchased.
4. Not sure what was found under the cushion on the couch, but no mouse was seen and no mouse droppings were found in the 2 months prior to their arrival when we were staying there.
5. These guests did not follow some of the guidelines in the Welcome Book that they read and I reviewed with them: the trash collector stated the the cans and bottles were not rinsed so they could not be accepted at the recycle center. The cottage was to be left broom swept. Neither of the women or men did this. The cleaners took extra time to clean. The sink basket had to be pried out of the sink as they pushed it down so hard. The bathroom sink was stuffed with toilet paper. Not sure why. We did not take these repairs out of their deposit. They left food in the fridge and the freezer. They left other recreational swim items as well. These required a trip to the landfill and a fee that was paid.
The guests never mentioned any problems even though we were available by phone and text 24/7. They did not tell us they were checking out a day early. This would have been helpful to the cleaning and maintenance crew. Also the cottage is checked for left out food, running water etc.
Lakeside is a secluded respite from Cooperstown Allstar Village, only a 15 minute drive away. Rustic home has well appointed kitchen with bed and breakfast feel. Open windows and fans cool home nicely without air conditioning. Lake is perfect for paddling and swimming. Enjoyed our stay thoroughly. Would have appreciated more freedom for guests as we have enjoyed at VRBO for many years but managed to visit family and friends elsewhere with occasional flexibility from owner to visit at the home. Tough to manage 1st and last night for boys from Allstar Village with 7 night stay requirement and occupancy limit which is strictly monitored. Appreciated owners notice that they were staying at adjacent apartment.
