Our stay was fine until the owner claims we clogged the kitchen drain and is charging us 100 to repair. We disposed of normal food scraps in the garbage disposal and the drain clogged. We will dispute this charge.

This was a totally legitimate charge. The drain was totally clogged with food to the point that the dishwasher was inoperable. The charge was very reasonable considering the time required to unclog the drain.
What a beautiful island, but there were a couple of issues with the unit:
1. This Unit ONLY Sleeps 4, NOT 5,
as it states on VRBO - and also populates in the VRBO search.
When I emailed the Owner to ask where the 5th person sleeps, she said, “The listing states two master suites. It states maximum occupancy at five persons...not sleeps five.”
2. We did not know we needed a Code to enter the activities areas in the island (Community Center, pool, etc).
When we emailed Mary to ask for the code, she stated, “I cannot give out my member number to guests renting my villa. The member ID is exclusive to the use of the member only, and is NEVER given out to anyone else.” It would have been good to know this prior to arriving.
3. Very Limited TV Channels
4. Top floor bathroom needs a new shower-head
Positives included:
1. The House was Clean.
2. 2 Adult Bicycles included - lots of fun and great way to see the beautiful island.
3. Main Gate is very helpful and kind.

It is very important to understand that Alicia, by her own admission in messaging, DID NOT read the listing. She asked no questions prior to booking, with the exception of pool usage...and stated to me that she 'only looked at search results, not the specifics of the listing! My listing very clearly states TWO bedrooms, and no pullout sofa, which she told me there was! search results state TWO bedrooms!
The guest was given incorrect information from an employee of the fitness center. My member ID# is not required to use the fitness center OR any other amenities. All that is required is the villa number.
The pool which she mentioned was not the community pool, which requires no code for usage by guests. Once again, she asked NO questions prior to booking!
We were aware of the shower head, and it has been replaced with a hand held shower unit.
So much opportunity, but poor communication caused us not to come
I ended up paying for this location which looks like a beautiful place. However, I had to move our dates because someone in my house got Covid. I contacted the seller and after several communications and me sending a policy vrbo posts about Covid the owner agreed to move the date. The next part is when items went sour. I was told my partner and I would need to provide negative Covid test and our proof of vaccine. Now neither of us ever had Covid,but I understood the request and did not find it unreasonable. Then I ask for an email to send her the info and she said no I would need to take it to security on-site. This felt uncomfortable. But I was ok with it until she mentioned I would need a negative test within 24 hours or we would not be able to use any of the amenities including the restaurant on site, so we would now have to pay for two rapid test as we both tested negative had no symptoms and were vaccinated and this date was three weeks later than our original booking. No where in the posting did it advise this would be protocol. I refused and said this was unfair, I now felt stressed and if my whole trip was going to be ruined. I did not feel I could trust the communication from the host. I called VTBO, the gentI spoke with agreed with me and said he would dispute the charge, which I did. So the charge back was refused because of the host cancpolicy, but the fact was I never wanted to cancel, but I did not want to get there and be turned away or harassed. I contacted VRBO after the charge back was refused and they stated they recommended the host give me a 60% refund or a future stay. She did not offer either. Customer service is as important as the location and amenities to me. Most people will not have issues, but if you do it is important to know if someone is willing to work with you.

When the guest contacted me only ONE day prior to her arrival, I complied with her request immediately to reschedule her visit.
I gave her the current COVID policy information that was given to me directly from the general manager for Dataw Island. Dataw Island is a private, gated island that has an entrance policy that it may determine itself. It is a fluid policy that cannot be stated on a listing. Fluid meaning it is subject to change.
The current policy of the island is proof of vaccination OR a rapid test within 24 hours. The guest was NOT restricted on any amenities, and was advised of this fact.
This guest NEVER cancelled her reservation!! Therefore, it remained open on my VRBO calendar. And therefore I was unable to book another party while having inquires for that time period.
Her chargeback was completely fraudulent, and of course was denied by her credit card company. There was no question she owed the payment for a reservation that she NEVER cancelled. My cancellation policy was clearly stated in the listing.
Her statement that I was asked to offer a discount or free stay by VRBO, is a complete falsehood, as is her entire review.
Property and location wonderful, our only complaint was lack of television channels. We go to SC for 1-2 months. This year we could only do about 4-5 weeks due to unexpected health issues which, of course, affected our stay, and which meant a huge loss of our payment. The condo's channel line-up is restricted to about five total offerings, which wasn't enough for our extended stay. Otherwise, the unit was well-furnished and comfortable.

Trip insurance is always recommended to avoid the loss of vacation rental costs. It is not our responsibility if a guest arrives late or leaves early.
The TV channel lineup that is provided in the villa contributes to lower rent for our guests. There are approximately 20 channels that are offered. If that is a major concern, this should be addressed before booking.
Overall ok. Smelled a little stale when I got there. Needed to be aired out. The bedside lamp knob was broken and would not turn on

The villa was THOROUGHLY cleaned prior to the guest’s arrival. There have been ABSOLUTELY NO complaints in relation to air quality in the villa! I had communicated to the guest more than once to not hesitate to contact me in regard to any questions/concerns. I make every effort to provide all guests with an excellent experience. I received no communication from the guest that there were any problems.
Great golf course community with access to the Marina and shops. Our family had a great time.

2012 Bluff Villa Review
Listed as 3 bedrooms. Only 2 bedrooms and owner had no reply other than "sincerely apologize" for incorrect listing. Both bikes flat tires, no golf cart, no use of pool, had to change lightbulbs, only basic TV channels. Accommodations disappointing but island is fabulous.

I explained that the listing had been edited to the correct number of bedrooms, as an incorrect number was stated by VRBO. The owner of the villa does NOT provide a golf cart with the rental...this must be arranged, as I had told her, prior to her arrival, with the Pro Shop. Use of the pool has absolutely NOTHING to do with the owner of the villa, and is TOTALLY the responsibility of Dataw Island.
This person brought a dog into my villa WITHOUT informing me, to avoid the pet fee that was CLEARLY stated in the listing agreement. My cleaning people found dog hair and dirt throughout the villa...on all furniture and floors...and communicated this to me, as I would never have been aware that this deceptive and underhanded activity occurred.
I can't say enough about how wonderful this Villa is on Dataw Island! The view is beautiful and the villa is very relaxing and cozy like being at home. Mary is a wonderful host. We were there for 9 days and a few small issues came up that she handled immediately and around our schedule. I would highly recommend this place and will stay there again if and when we are ever in the area.
