About this property

Rustic Personal Retreat Cabin, "Sunrise"

This little one-room cabin is ADORABLE! It has everything you need (and nothing you don't) for a quiet getaway to fill your soul. We're located just 30 minutes outside Duluth, MN, but when you're here you'll feel like you're in the middle of nowhere.

Here are a few things you'll want to know before you book this cabin:
- The cabin is clean, comfortable, and elegant, but still quite rustic. The cabin is available year-round, with a propane fireplace for your main source of heat. It has electricity, but no running water. In the kitchenette is a water dispenser for washing & drinking. Adjacent to the cabin is your own private low-odor outhouse that has a little heater and a light you can turn on from inside the cabin. Just a one-minute walk from the cabin is the main lodge, which has public restrooms for showers and flushing toilets.
- There is no drive-in access to this cabin. You can unload your vehicle about a one or two-minute walk from the cabin. We offer hand carts and/or utility sleds for bringing luggage to the cabin. After you've unloaded your vehicle, we'll ask you to park your car back in the parking lot along the side of the road.
- Please watch this 4-minute tour video before reserving this cabin. The video will hopefully help give you a sense of what the cabin is like so you can decide if it's a good fit for you before you make a reservation: https://youtu.be/BogF7dW8gWc

Perfect private getaway!
It is somewhat secluded, very quiet and peaceful, very close to the river and a short hike to the lake. No running water to the small cabins, but there is access to water for washing hands and dishes in the cabin. Its about a 15-20 min drive to Superior for anything you may need, or duluth just a bit further! We were looking for a quite, private getaway and this was perfect! Spent the first day running around superior sightseeing and checking out the local bars and restaurants, and the second day paddleboarding the river and lake! Each cabin has a firepit and grill so we grilled steaks, brats, and potatoes that we got from the local meat market....very good! We will definetly be back, or if not, we'll make it an annual trip!

Sunrise cabin
Very quiet and secluded. There are trails leading to the lake. Be forewarned though that Porcupine trail isn't well marked or groomed. My stay there was just what I needed. Thank you! 😊

lovely weekend getaway
we had an amazing stay! the cabin was nice and had everything we needed. sunset fires on the beach were a great way to spend our nights! the only note we had is that the trails were not maintained, so we didn’t feel comfortable hiking as much as we would have liked.

Prayer retreat
Surpassed my expectations with privacy and quiet. Windows are in bad repair, which made ventilation in hot weather tricky. (Screens missing and opening/closing hardware broken) Other than that the small quiet retreat was exactly what I needed!

Beautiful Location
We had a great stay. We'd love to return. It's a beautiful location. Though there's no modern bathroom facilities attached to the cabin, the short walk to The Lodge was no big deal. The kitchenette was well equipped and we wish we would have had more time there.

Retreat of Solitude
Except for the weather and the ticks, I had a great three days! The cabins are perfect for a private retreat to do a lot of reading. The hikes to the shore of Lake Superior were well worth it. Awesome displays of God's power shown as storms roll in out on the Lake.

A secluded, private spot
I LOVED the Sunrise cabin! It was camping but with a few amenities that made the experience much better than sleeping in a tent. Very peaceful and quiet and only a 10 minute walk to Lake Superior. The showers in the lodge were an added bonus. I definitely will be back and have already shared with friends, encouraging them to check out this awesome place!

Spring Break Getaway
Enjoyed a quiet spring break in this cabin. It was lovely and warm and cozy, with the shore of Lake Superior only a 10-15 minute walk away. Check-in was easy, and the cabin had cooking supplies available. It was a lovely break from being constantly connected, and I'd highly recommend it for a quiet getaway!

Getaway
It was lovely! The cabin was even a little roomier than expected and the outhouse was heated. I was looking for a solo trip to enjoy the outdoors and this was the perfect place to do so. Curling up with a book by the fire after being out in the cool air was just what the doctor ordered.

Beautiful grounds. Cozy cabin with everything we needed. We appreciated the thoughtful amenities (lantern for walking at night, extra blanket for by the fire, boot tray, etc.). Great communication with staff and easy check-in. Thank you!

Camp Amnicon Adventures & Retreats is a high-adventure summer camp that offers guided wilderness trips to small groups of middle & high school students. We are ELCA-affiliated, and welcoming to people of all genders, races, and backgrounds. Our mission is to guide people to experience Grace & Growth in the wild places of creation. We hope that you get to experience deep peace while you're here.

At our base-camp, we rent out 6 small/personal retreat cabins and a big four-season lodge, as well several as hike-in campsites and seasonal glamping wall-tents. The cabins are far enough apart from each other and the main public spaces of the camp that you will get a nice amount of privacy. But you should also expect to see other people around the main areas of camp, at the beach, on the walking-paths, and in the public restrooms in the lodge. If you'd like to see a map of the grounds before making a reservation, feel free to send us a message and we'll be more than happy to share it with you.

99% of the year, our site is quiet and serene. There are a few days during the summer when we'll have several groups of campers coming through base-camp for day of orientation before they head out on their guided adventure trips. If you'd like to avoid these high-traffic days, please contact us prior to making your reservation. We're more than happy to share with you how busy we might expect any particular dates to be.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, or need help deciding if our cabins will be a good fit for you!

Why they chose this property

Located at the end of a 5-mile-long dirt road, our rustic retreat center is the perfect blend of far enough away and easy enough to get to.
