About this property

Quintessential kiwi beach holiday

Our classic Kiwi Bach is literally right on the beach. Step out the French doors onto the deck and then the sand of the inlet. Wonderful for families as the beach is child-friendly. But if you prefer more excitement, it's a short walk (or swim) across to the surf at Pataua North. We also have a selection of kayaks available so you can explore the area.

The Bach is well-equipped with everything you need, including a fabulous BBQ and plenty of outdoor furniture. We have a huge backyard with plenty of room for the kids to run around or have a game of family cricket.

If you're after a winter escape, the log burner in the living room is perfect for cozy evenings by the fire with plenty of wood in the shed.

There are 2 bedrooms with super comfortable queen-sized beds. One of the bedrooms has an ensuite toilet. There is another sleeping area with 2 single beds. This area can be curtained off for privacy.

Special conditions:
Pataua South is also a dog-friendly beach so we are very happy for you to bring your family pet. We just ask that you follow our few simple dog rules and know where your dog is at all times.

Generally, we do not allow any camping as it is too much strain on our infrastructure to have more than 6/8 people staying.

Smoking is allowed outside only.

Throughly enjoyed location of property access to beach kayaking and walking tracks. Property was very clean and had everything for a family with older & younger children.Highlight for us was accessible home for our disabled teen. Great communication with host thank you Nikki.

Back in time getaway

Stunning spot

Pataua South is one of Northland’s best kept secrets, such a beautiful part of the country with pohutakawa trees lining an estuary that changes constantly with bird life and tides. Sitting in the sheltered outdoor area and watching the day evolve from sunrise to dusk was such a treat. The bach is so comfortable and thoughtful designed, it has everything you need for the most relaxing seaside holiday.

Absolute Perfection

We had the most amazing 5 nights. This awesome bach has everything you need! Heaps of space for us and our two teens. The caravan was perfect for our 17 year old daughter. Couldnt have asked for a more perfect spot. The outdoor area was so handy for chilling out of the sun. The inside was very clean and cosy. The host was so friendly and helpful. We have already booked again for next year!

A super cute bach with everything you need. The estuary provides a great platform for kayaking, swimming, pipi collecting and low tide walks. Really enjoyed our short but relaxing holiday.

Everything you needed and the location can not be beaten. Able to sit in comfort and watch the children safely swimming and playing a few metres away on the beach. Fantastic host with great communication will stay again.again.

Great cottage

We visited this area to get a little off the beaten path. The area is beautiful and we really enjoyed the beach house. It had a cozy beach house vibe and the view was lovely. The beds were very comfortable! The kitchen had all the amenities we needed.

Spring break at Pataua South

Quintessential KBH is truly a special place. We made this our home base to explore the beautiful local area and wider Whangarei coast. It had everything we needed to relax and unwind after our daily excursions. Even though this trip was short we aim to return and hopefully stay a bit longer. A big thank you again to Nikki our host.

Pataua South Retreat

This was the second tie we have stayed a this property. We love the location. The bach is very comfortable and has everything you need. We love the retro, relaxing feeling, the closeness to the water and the lovely walk over the bridge to Pataua North. A real home away from home.

We really enjoyed our stay- thank you! Beautiful location, very spacious, and loved the stylish retro feel! We stayed for a family members wedding which was held at clay banks wedding venue, only 10-15 drive away. We would highly recommend staying at this bach!

Best Getaway in Pataua South

Hi Nikki & whanau, Thank you for the opportunity to stay in your lovely bach. We regularly stay in typical 'kiwi bach' type accommodation throughout NZ. Without exaggeration this bach has it all plus more. From 10/10 cleanliness, amenities and not to mention on the waters edge. Regarding communication 10/10 and the option to check in slightly earlier was a bonus. The local 4square (fully stocked) was only 10 minutes drive from the bach. with a local cafe and pizzeria (so yummy) were next door to the 4square. Caught fish, picked pipi's, kayaked and boogie boarded. Other beaches within 30 minute drive were also pristine. Especially enjoyed Ocean Beach. Definitely a destination. Would love to return sometime soon.

Classic bach

We stayed for 10 nights with the grandparents and 2 kids (4 & 6). The property has everything you need and we noticed some improvements since our last visit (2020) with the aircon and covered deck. Excellent location with loads to do whether on the property, out in the estuary or a short walk to the bridge or beach. The best part is the quiet and truly quintessential classic Bach nature of the property. This is our second visit here and we'll be back.

Had a great time utilising the estuary and surrounding area. So many great things to do and the weather was generally good. The bach was the classic kiwi bach and it’s right on the estuary which was great.

As a family we all own this little bach, thanks to our wonderful mum who first discovered the area and got the ball rolling. My name is Nikki and I generally look after the bach bookings. I live in Auckland with my husband and 3 kids and we come up as often as we possibly can, as does my Mum and sister. For us, the bach is a retreat from the madness of the city and a place for us to get together and create life long family memories. We are happy to share our bach on Homeaway/bookabach and hope that those who come to stay love it as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

Our mum first found this bach when she went on holiday with a friend in about 2010. She fell in love with the area instantly and in particular the unspoiled little baches that dotted along the waters edge. When the opportunity came up to buy one of them, as a family, we all agreed it was a "no brainer".

What makes this property unique

The absolute beach front location along with the ever changing picturesque view across the inlet and ocean make this the perfect spot. We hope people will appreciate our love for all things retro, giving the house a charming and classic original kiwi bach style.
