Eagles Rest: Unwind, Relax with Nature & Breathtaking Ocean and Mountain Views
"Eagles Rest" sits Majestically 200m above sea level overlooking the South Pacific Ocean to the Hen & Chicks, and taking in all four of the Whangarei Heads/Mountains. Located on Kauri Mountain and looking down to Ocean Beach, Whangarei Heads (Mt Manaia, Mt Lion and others), surrounded by several Hectares of native Manuka bush. Close to a recent 'Grand Design' (television series) property. 6 minutes drive to Parua Bay village, providing all likely holidayers' amenities including restaurant, takeaways, cafes, 4-square, service station, hairdressers, gym and other services, yet peaceful and pristeen and 'away from it all' so you can switch off and just soak in the ambience of the location - and listen out for the kiwis calling each other in the evening. Disconnect and decompress! The house is a large single-bedroomed home with a spacious lounge and glass-banistered verandah allowing you to look down on the vista from every window. A large sheltered downstairs area has chairs and hammocks for relaxing in the shade. Appliances include a modern gas stove, fully kitted out kitchen, and other essentials for a healthy, peaceful stay. The house comprises a modern bathroom, fully furnished bedroom, lounge and kitchen, and the grounds open up to 18 acres of Manuka bush with paths carved in to allow you to travel to a new world of flora and fauna. 7 minutes' drive will take you around the mountain and down to the exquisite Ocean Beach that you've been gazing at from the house - part of which has its own reef-enclosed lagoon - perfect for swimming, body-boarding or sun bathing. Several other beautiful beaches/bays are 10-12 minutes drive away - such as Pataua, Taiharuru, McGreogors Bay to name a few; hiking tracks abound (such as the famous Te Whara track to the top of Mt Manaia - a 45min hike from the DoC/Club carpark) and crystal clear waters everywhere that offer endless entertainment and relaxation to the activity of your choice. Views as you drive up towards Eagles Rest will take your breath away - and the driver will need to keep their eyes on the road as kiwis are regularly seen frolicking in the bush around Kauri mountain, thanks to the efforts of local trappers and environmentalists who have transformed the entire area into a protected breeding area for kiwi and other native birds. We have deliberately not provided wifi so as to allow a disconnection from the hustle and bustle. Eagles Rest is truly a special place - and if you're in need of a relaxing break, this is the place for you. Note: the property has several cabins as seen in some photos, that are not included in the booking at this stage. You are expected to leave the house as you found it. Linen/towels are provided. This is our family's holiday home and while it is safe, weathertight, solid and clean, this is a modern bach not a luxury bnb.

I could have sat on the balcony all day and watched the view. Even breathtaking driving up to property. Listening to the kiwis as night was very special and taking photos of the night sky as there was minimal light pollution. The bed was much to soft for us, but that is just a personal thing. Kitchen had everything we needed, shower pressure was fantastic.
Lovely gesture of yummy biscuits, milk and bottled water. Thank you
Thank you for the generous review Adrienne, we just arrived and the place was left clean and tidy thanks.
I hope you arrived back to Christchurch safely. Simon
Had a great time at eagles rest, very peaceful location with a perfect view and still close to main beaches. Only thing I would say is it could do with some curtains especially in the bedroom as the sun had us up at 6.30 each morning. Otherwise lovely property with lots of native birds and scenic views.
Beautiful place with amazing landscapes and all the privacy
We had an amazing and most relaxing weekend getaway at this place. It has and amazing view of the surrounding land, Ocean Beach and Whangarei Heads. Even though it is remote, it was easy to find, house is nice and tidy with all the food basics (included!) you may need to prepare your food. Highly recommended if you want some piece and quiet!
A hidden gem tucked away with the most incredible views of the water and surrounding hills. A perfect balance between beach and bush in this very homely and well catered to property. Not to mention a fantastic shower pressure to wash away the sand and a cosy open fire to snuggle up to at night. Pure bliss!
We don’t want to leave. And we will be back. Thanks Simon and family for sharing your little piece of paradise.
We loved our stay. A perfect spot for relaxation with what must be one of the best views in New Zealand. Close to some amazing beaches that you won't find anywhere else. A simple bach that provides the perfect getaway.
A stunning site with gorgeous views, lovely and private - and a classic kiwi style bach which has everything you might need, thanks to the super considerate owners. Highly recommend a stay!

The owners, NZ Citizens, bought the property to enjoy it's peaceful location and access to the numerous beaches in and around the Whangarei Heads. Rather than keep the place all to themselves, they figured why not open it up and share it's 'breathtaking therapy' with others? Renew your strength by ascending to higher altitudes - like an eagle.
What makes this property unique
The views. The peace and quiet. Close to nature yet amenities within reach. Safe and secure. You feel like an Eagle, looking down on the world. What better perspective to have when you need to reflect, refresh and revive yourself?
