Kotare Studio, just 5 kms from Matakana Village, is the perfect getaway for two people wanting to simply kick back and relax in a secluded environment while only minutes away from the great attractions in and around Matakana. Tucked away on 37 acres, combining mature, native kauri and rimu forest with plantings of olives and Italian cypresses, our architecturally designed, self-contained studio is completely private, tastefully appointed and sunny. With Mt Tamahunga as our backdrop, the studio and private patio offer great, north-facing rural valley views, amazing night skies and abundant birdsong. A short walk will take you to the start of the Tamahunga Trail, a Department of conservation bush walk. The beautiful white sand beach at Omaha, vineyards, restaurants, cycleways and bush walks are all within easy reach. A little further afield, there’s good surfing at Pakiri Beach and Tawharanui Regional Park, and excellent snorkelling and diving at Goat Island Marine Reserve.

500m or more unsealed driveway not mentioned in description. Too many ants around, especially in the bathroom. Generally overpriced.

It is not uncommon for rural, lifestyle properties, such as ours, to have an unsealed gravel driveway. It is regularly maintained for safe, easy access. I will, however, edit the property description to include this. We try to be environmentally sustainable and avoid the use of insecticides whenever possible. I’m sorry you were bothered by ants. The rain at the beginning of your stay probably drove them inside. Thank you for your review.
