I have used VRBO and the other guest sharing site many times without problems. However, the Divers & Bikers room is the first time I have encountered a room we could not stay in. We picked this room because there was no availability of places that we usually use due to the BTS concert in Tokyo. The room is located within a bar / bike / SCUBA shop. That in itself would not be a problem. The main issue was the smell in the room. Though it we could not identify it - it smelled of old cigarettes. We contacted Keita the owner. His response was that "he is sensitive to cigarette smoke and that he prohibits room guests and bar patrons from smoking." Be that as it may, the room smell caused my wife headaches within 5 minutes of entering the room. We advised Keita that we would not be able to stay the two days. He did not offer a refund or partial refund and apologized for not meeting our expectation. If no one indeed does smoke in the room or adjacent bar, then Keita needs to wash the sheets and bedding and air out the room if he wants to continue to use that room as a VRBO. The only other comment is that there is no means to lock the individual room. That is concerning since the bar is open at 1900 and there is risk of someone entering the room. I have saw other reviews indicated guests have not had issues staying at the Divers & Bikers room, but for us it was intolerable to the point that we sought another hotel and forfeit what we paid Keita.
The host Keita is very nice and kind! He provided any help we need regarding our stay. We kept communicating with him via Whatsapp and Vrbo, and he answers whenever we have inquiries. The 2 connected rooms we lived in can accommodate a total of 3 people. There are 2 aircon with cooling and heating so the room are warm despite the almost freezing temperature outside. There is also a hanger where we can hang our jackets and towels. The room is quite spacious compared to other hotels in Tokyo. However since the room's door could not be locked, we have to bring some locks to secure our baggage. Fortunately our baggage remained untouched throughout our journey. The main living room is like a cafe/bar, which is a common area with tables and kitchens that we can use. There is a fridge and microwave available, with some tablewares and stationary. The toilet and bathroom is seperated. The toilet comes with Japanese style washlet which is really convenient. The bathroom is well-insulated so it's quite comfortable even without a room heater. It also comes with abundant stock of toilet papers, soaps, toothbrush and towels. The house is located in a quiet residential area. I feel quite safe around this area. It takes around 10-15 minutes to reach either of the two train stations, with majority of the stores and restaurants concentrated around the stations, which is a little bit inconvenient.Anyways, this stay is amazing and I would recommend to anyone who plan to stay in Tokyo!
