About this property

"Kahiki Tiki" - Private Pool, Walk/Bike to Bowman's Beach

Escape to the "Kahiki Tiki", a private 3 bed/2 bath (sleeps 5) home, with a private, heated pool, just minutes away from Bowman's Beach and Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge.

If you are searching for a tropical getaway, where you can enjoy the relaxing, peaceful vibe of Sanibel Island and the shell-filled beaches and warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, then welcome to Sanibel's West End, and to our home, “Kahiki Tiki”!

The word "Kahiki" has various meanings, one of which is "travel to a place far away." But whether you are journeying to our beautiful island from far OR near, we invite you to enjoy the comfort of our home, and everything that Sanibel has to offer!

"Kahiki Tiki" is a near-beach, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, pool home situated on the west end of Sanibel, close to the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge. The nearby paved bike path takes you to the refuge for an easy nature-viewing loop, where you can spot a variety of birds and wildlife including roseate spoonbills, herons, egrets, cormorants, pelicans, turtles, alligators, and much much more. A birder's paradise! There are several companies on-island that will deliver bicycles, e-bikes, kayaks, beach wheelchairs, paddleboards, etc. to your choice of location. Ding Darling has two kayak launches, and Bowman’s Beach has another, giving you three nearby launches for your kayak or board. If you’re looking for some time out on the water. And if you enjoy fishing, Ding Darling and Bowman’s Beach are both excellent places to try to “catch the big one”, as is the Blind Pass Bridge (5 min away). If you choose to walk the neighborhood around Kahiki Tiki, don't be surprised if you spot a pileated woodpecker laughing overhead, a group of ibis strutting down the street, cute little marsh rabbits hopping about, or a gopher tortoise or two nibbling plants or taking a stroll in the sunshine. And when you are taken by the call of sand, surf, and shells, head to nearby Bowman's Beach, and the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. They are but a short 7 minute bike ride or 17 minute walk from the house via the Bowman's Beach shared-use path. No need to drive and pay $5 per hour to park when you can stroll or cruise to the beach!

Situated on a ½ acre, private wooded lot that backs to a small lagoon, the house features an open-concept main floor that flows from the family room into the kitchen. The airy family room, with cathedral ceiling, faces south, and the majority of the entire back wall is glass, with disappearing sliding doors that lead to the upper lanai and a view of the treetops.

A doorway from the family room leads to the primary bedroom, which has two large closets, and an attached, updated bath with a combination tub/shower. Another disappearing sliding door leads from the master bedroom to the upper lanai.

On the opposite side of the family room, a hallway leads to an office/laundry room, the two guest bedrooms, and an updated second full bath with shower.

The fully-equipped kitchen has granite countertops (with ample workspace for your inner-chef), a well-stocked spice cabinet, pantry, and stainless-steel appliances featuring an electric solid-surface cooktop range.

For the times when you want to enjoy the fresh island air while you dine, relax, read or nap, "Kahiki Tiki" features two large private lanais, each 10 feet wide by 45 feet long. The upper lanai, situated in the treetops, accessible from the master bedroom and family room, is furnished with a dining table at one end, and a comfy sofa pit at the other, affording tranquil views of the swaying palms and large-leafed sea grape trees on the property. The entire upper lanai has sliding floor-to-ceiling acrylic panels that can turn the screened lanai into a comfortable sunroom, if so desired. A burbling water feature adds its soothing sounds to the “room”.

The lower level offers a screened lanai which steps down to the private heated pool. An enclosed outdoor shower - located off of the boardwalk just outside of the pool area - is available for rinsing off the sand and ocean water when you return from the beach, or simply enjoying a shower (al fresco)!

Offering close proximity to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, a heated private pool, 2 spacious lanais, and comfortable accommodations, "Kahiki Tiki" invites you to "travel to a place far away” and experience all that the sun, sand, waters, and wildlife of Sanibel Island have to offer!

Location is a very convenient bike ride to Blind Pass, Bowman’s Beach, or Old Blind Pass. Short drive to Sanibel or Captiva restaurants or shopping areas. Owners are warm and inviting making it easy to communicate with them at any time if needed. I’d recommend this hone to anyone.

Host profile image
We met at The Ohio State University (Go Bucks!), moved to Colorado for 25 years, and then decided that the ocean was calling our name.

We love calling Sanibel home. One major reason we were drawn to this special place is that the people who live on Sanibel are passionate about conservation. 70% of the island is undeveloped, preserved land. That says a lot about what the locals value.

We love to walk the beach, shell, bike, kayak, swim, paddle board, and bird watch. We also appreciate that we can volunteer our time and energy to the amazing organizations here that work together to preserve this unique place.

We have family spread across the country, so with VRBO, it provides us with the opportunity to share this special place with others, while we visit our relations. Perhaps some of our guests will catch "Sanibel Fever", and decide that they too would like to call this amazing place their home!

Why they chose this property

We can't say enough positive things about our neighborhood! We love living in Sanibel Bayous North. Our neighbors are the type of people who would do anything for you, as we all have experienced during and after the recent storms. The location is ideal, as it is close to all things nature-related: Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge; Bowman's Beach; Blind Pass Beach... We sit on one of the highest points on the island, and have remained a "tropical oasis", full of palm trees, sea grapes, mangroves, and all types of flowering bushes. The neighborhood backs up to Ding Darling, so we have frequent wildlife visitors (birds, gopher tortoises, raccoons, etc.). Kind people. Abundant nature. What's not to love?!

What makes this property unique

"Kahiki Tiki" is a perfect home if you want a convenient starting spot for outdoor adventures, a private pool to swim in, and a comfortable home for just hanging out with family and friends!
