About this property

Cabin at Mulberry Spring Farm

A rustic, two-story, 19th-century cottage (1 of 4 listings on the property. It is located near the main house and another guest cabin). The cabin has a cozy living space and a full kitchen. Conveniently located to the park, historic sites, breweries, and several wineries.

Wood stove is no longer available, sorry.

The cabin has a cozy living space and a kitchen that is adequately equipped. The bathroom offers a clawfoot tub with a shower. Upstairs you'll find a comfortable bedroom with a queen-sized bed. The sitting porch out front offers a perfect place to watch the sunset. The original cabin is at least 100 + years old and rests on a stone foundation. The kitchen and bath are later additions. Consider its age and rural location when booking especially if you are prone to allergies. Insects find ways to get in despite our best efforts. Also, heating the cabin with the electric baseboard units can be expensive. Guests are asked to help us keep electricity costs manageable by turning the heat down or off when away for long periods. And, please do not open the window if the heat is on. The cabin is also one of several buildings on the property and is situated near the main house.

Guests of The Cabin share a driveway with the main house. You are welcome to pull right up the cabin. Once situated, guests may explore the property. Given the number of fruit trees, be aware that pollinators a present especially if you are allergic to stinging insects.

The Cabin is one of several structures on the grounds of Mulberry Spring and is near the main house. This historic Virginia property, located in a mountainside neighborhood, dates back to the 1750s. The main house was built by William Monroe, a successful landowner and benefactor of public education in Greene County. This 18 acre property hosts pre-civil war structures, a variety of fruit trees, and authentic stacked rock walls.

Nearest towns for shopping are Standardsville (15 min. drive) or Ruckersville (20 min. drive). Both towns host a variety of antique shops. Charlottesville is about a half hours drive and is chock full of fine restaurants, shops, and entertainment opportunities.
History buffs will enjoy visiting the three presidents' homes nearby: Ashlawn, home to Monroe (30 miles/50 min.), Monticello, home to Jefferson (28 miles/30 min.) and Montpelier, home to Madison (22 miles/26 min.). Guests will also enjoy visiting the many wineries in the surrounding area.

Mulberry Spring is located in a semi-rural area. Guests are advised to shop for food supplies before arriving especially if coming in late. The nearest grocery stores are either the Great Value in Stanardsville (8 miles) or the Walmart in Ruckersville (11 miles). The roads are two lane and the terrain is hilly. A car or other means of motorized transportation is necessary to get to town.

Cell phone service at the cabin is spotty depending on your service provider. More information about the cabin will be provided to guests 3-4 days before arrival unless requested earlier.

Just as described/Read the description
This location is off a dirt road off another dirt road - - it's rural, which improved our quality of star gazing! Also, the fire pit was lovely. Be sure to get extra wood from the host. This is not the Ritz-Carlton but it's a great place to stay if you are heading into Shenandoah Park via the Spotswood Trail, Route 33. We enjoyed our visit here.

Peaceful Country Cabin
Mulberry Spring Farm: this 19th century farm property has a special kind of light and energy. A birders paradise: we had a female bluebird that was fixated on my side view mirrors, tame and so near us always hovering by the car, and occasionally fluttering away to join her mate a beautiful blue male, at the bluebird house on the edge of the wood, a goldfinch curiously watched from the mulberry at our bedroom window and there were several others, their songs echoing in the hollow, adorned with several old flowering trees, magnolias, apple, and of course ancient mulberries growing from broken and contorted trunks which added to the charm and history of this picturesque, quiet, lazy country farm. The cabin was rustic, clean, everything deliberately mismatched, a farmhouse aesthetic, southern and simple. The furniture was comfortable, the bed as well, the kitchen was stocked with necessities, but as a cook, there always tends to be something I need. But they can’t have everything. The AC upstairs was great, but the April light and air poured in from the pasture and was fragrant and temperate, filled with the smell of blossoms and fresh grass, rich with sound, the song of nature, perfect for open windows. The charming Dutch door in the kitchen opens to a trelliss with hops and grapevines climbing healthily upon it, while all around, seeping through the edges of everything, the gentle light like a dream, softened by this place, perhaps it’s the abundance of life, and pure air, or if it’s just that quiet feeling, a patient and forgiving hand on your shoulder telling you it’s alright to slow down and enjoy this morning, this moment, in an otherwise earnest and unforgiving world. We had been in another vacation home for the beginning of the trip, but it had a very cold and stressful energy that haunted us, but here, there fell upon us, a peace and tranquil feeling that ushered us back to the modern world with a fresh and cleansed sense of body and mind. Please enjoy this home and enjoy your stay as we did.

Quiet Relaxation
The house was just as pictured. It was a cute, quiet, and way off the beaten path. That is exactly what we were looking for. The directions from the owner were easy to follow and we had a wonderful weekend exploring the area.

Great place to unplug and unwind
We had a great time! The cabin was exactly what we were looking for to relax and unwind. We particularly enjoyed watching 4 young deer run around and play in the meadow. Alex and Whitney were great to work with and very responsive. The weekend was perfect!

Mulberry Springs Farm is a historic Virginia property dating back to the 1750s. It has been completely renovated and is now open to the VRBO community! Mulberry Springs is owned and operated by Leonne and Ilija from Gloucester County, VA. Their son's years attending the University of Virginia prompted frequent trips to Charlottesville, and they have since fallen in love with the foot hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and hope to share the experience with others.
