My family had a wonderful time at the Master's cottage on the property. The owners have everything ready and if they are around, they are very helpful with the area and property, and if they are away, they will always answer to give guidance. Higgins Lake is beautiful.

Hi Jeff. Thank you for the kind words. We enjoyed your family and hearing about your adventures and memories on Higgins Lake including how special it is to be there during your mom's birthday! Thanks for sharing and being fantastic guests! See you next year!
Peaceful atmosphere, gorgeous & clean house & loaded with every amenity you’ll require.
Tranquil and peaceful setting, yet numerous activities right at your fingertips. Clean water, clean sand and clean cabin. Owners are very responsive, respectful of privacy, polite, super generous & kind. My family and I would recommend this place to the harshest critics!

Thank you so much for such a kind review! We certainly enjoyed your family very much and we are so glad you had a great time! We hope to welcome you back often! Thank you for choosing to stay with us at Cedar Shores Cabins! See you soon!:)
We loved the cottage . It was clean and welcoming.
Our only dissatisfaction was the size of the bed in the master bedroom
We recommend that the owners put a king size bed in the master bedroom . As much as we loved the place I don’t think we could rent again without it. The bed seemed small for a couple.

Thank you Patricia for your kind review. It is a beautiful cabin and the lake is so beautiful. We pride ourselves on our cleaning and get many compliments for this. All of the bedrooms are furnished with Queen beds as well. We appreciate the suggestion for a King bed to be added, unfortunately you may not have noticed that the door would not be able to shut if we added that size bed. Thanks again for coming to stay at Cedar Shores Cabins.
We drove up from KY to buy a boat and just needed a place to stay for a couple of nights and this place was perfect. It is a small and cozy cabin. I was actually very surprised that I found a place available at the last minute during a holiday weekend. Higgins Lake is absolutely beautiful. Viewing the sunrise and sunset from the cabin was amazing. The only complaint that we might have was that the shower was on the small side, my boyfriend and I are larger people and it was a tight fit but it worked for our short term needs. The hot water also ran out after we took showers back to back, just something to be aware of. Shower quicker or space them out lol. We didn't really have time to utilize the fire pit but it was a very nice set up. I wish we could have stayed longer! We met the owner on our last night there and it was a pleasure to meet you! Thank you for your hospitality!

We are so glad you visited us in Michigan and enjoyed your stay at the "Brass Bell." So nice to meet you both and see your beautiful new boat! Hope you will come back again sometime soon....
The tiny house was as described. It has the basics bones for a restful and peaceful stay. There is nothing extra, so bring your own bath and face towels and salt & pepper, cooking oil, grill cleaner etc. The north State Park is 10 minutes away and very clean. The water is crystal clear and shallow for quite a distance, with Sandy bottom and no weeds to walk through. It's great seeing the lake first thing in the morning and in the evening. We saw a beautiful moonrise last night! The sunrise this morning over the lake was beautiful. This is a good location.
Was nice and clean, but very small! It is on the water, but across a small gravel road used mostly by golf carts and retirees walking. The lake and dock were great, I would stay again!
The property was clean and very compact.. good for 2 people. The kitchen was fully equipped. The property was on the lake but had a dirt road separating the cottage from the lake. The decor was cute although the bathroom could use updating. It was close to the rental next door so there was little privacy. Overall very nice stay. The owners were very friendly. We brought our kayaks and bikes and had an enjoyable weekend.
The cabin was very nice and a beautiful lake! My only complaint is that the freezer and refrigerator is tiny. There was a leak under the kitchen sink.

Unfortunately this review is for another property but VRBO refuses to fix their error. This is for the Brass Bell which is small and sleeps 2-4. The Masters is 3 bedroom and a queen pull out couch. Thanks for your patience on this.
We enjoyed our stay in the cabin on Higgins Lake. Greg was a welcoming host and his cabin had everything we needed. I would recommend this place for couples looking to be right on the lake with a great view. We were able to tie our boat up at Greg’s hoist just off shore which was very convenient.

This review is for the wrong property - our Brass Bell that sleeps 2-4 and VRBO will not correct their mistake. Thanks for reading past this review.
We love Higgins Lake. Property is like many others in the area shoehorned into a spot. Was smaller than we anticipated and were glad it was just the two of us.

This review is not for the Masters property but for the Brass Bell property also owned by us. This property is not small and fits between 8-10 people. Thanks for ignoring this inaccurate review until we can get VRBO to correct their mistake in migrating our data.
Thank you so much for staying! Hope you enjoyed the rest of your summer! Again this review is for our Brass Bell beach house and not the Masters. This property is about 1400 sq feet. Our apologies for the inconvenience.
The owners are very nice, they respond quickly and allow short term bookings. We love the Higgins Lake area, we grew up in the area and spend several weeks there each summer and often come up just for the day. The cabin is rustic and we expected that as we have drove past it several times. We were unhappy with the condition of the cabin. Upon arrival there was dirt on the kitchen floor, long black hair on the bathroom floor and several on the back of the toilet, when I cleaned the hair from both places my paper towel had a lot of dust and dirt on it indicating that it hadn't been cleaned in a awhile. The refrigerator has built up dirt in the seal and dust on the top. Crumbs were still on the kitchen table. When my husband lifted the toilet seat there was feces on the bottom side. We still stayed the first night, however the second day we had a problem with the toilet not flushing, even after plunging. We had to use the public restrooms at the state park. It was storming at the time and perhaps that caused a problem with the septic tank. Not being able to use the toilet was the straw that broke the camels back and we decided to leave. We left the cabin at 3PM. We requested a refund of the second nights fees due to all the problems, however the request was denied. The owner felt we left due to the weather, however we have weathered many storms around the lake, many many times and it was not a factor in our decision. In fact we spent the rest of the day in the area and drove back the next day to enjoy one of the beaches. Overall the cabin is rustic, in a beautiful area but needs a really good cleaning.

We appreciate you coming to visit Higgins Lake and the politeness you showed in discussing your decision to leave. Also the positive aspects that you mentioned. We know that all of our travelers deserve a clean, welcoming cabin upon arrival and we do make this a priority and this situation is very unfortunate as you seem to be a nice upstanding group.
We have used the same housekeeping staff for over a year now and have never had an issue like what you've described. The same staff prepared all the other cottages on the property that were full of renters who had zero complaints.
After speaking with you we drove up north right away to inspect the cottage and discuss the situation with the housekeeping staff as well as speak with and inspect the other cottages. We found nothing out of the ordinary with the cottage and no issues regarding the plumbing that you had mentioned either.
Ultimately this unfortunate situation comes down to a matter or our housekeepers saying one thing and your group another. Based on our personal, thorough inspection; conversation with the two other groups on the property and the fact that in over a year of service with the housekeepers we've never had a complaint like this - we did decide that we needed to stand behind the hard working housekeeping staff and would not issue a refund for the unused night.
Knowing this decision would result in a poor review, it was something we considered carefully - had these issues been brought to our attention upon check in, or prior to spending a full night and day, we might have been able to access the situation more accurately.
We wish you and your family many enjoyable visits up north to Higgins Lake in the future!
This is a great little cabin for 2 that is lakefront with nice fire pit areas. The lake is really nice and very clear water to play around in. If you want relaxing up north feel this one has checked the boxes. Greg was very nice and even offered to take us out on the dune buggy he has but our plans squashed that. He was cool to offer. If you have a boat or kayaks then this is a winning vaca spot!
