This is such an amazing house, central to lots of things to do/see/eat. The stream and pond in the yard are so relaxing, and the house itself is well-decorated and well-stocked. We always love our stay here, and hope to return soon!

Mike and Caroline were great to work with and rent from but the house overall was not a good experience. It would not be my recommendation to rent this place during the summer. It is too hot and humid in Vermont to be without AC. Also, there is a significant odor of mildew, mold on master bedroom baseboards, and a hornet’s nest on front porch. There were cobwebs throughout. I’m sad to write this review but feel it’s a must to be honest.
This property was an absolute delight. We arrived at night after a strong winter storm left 12 inches of new snow, and were surprised to find a well-plowed driveway, plenty of firewood for the stove, and a stocked kitchen to begin our stay. We wanted to disconnect from the world for two weeks, ski, and enjoy nature. It is rare to find such a comfortable rental property that also allows dogs, and we appreciate that so much. Real beds (so many listings have futons), decorations that make the house feel like a home (rentals are often bleak and bare), and hosts that leave enough information about the home and area to put your mind at ease.
We have returned to Caroline and Mike’s place multiple times over the years. It’s always a peaceful and comfortable place to stay, with plenty of nature, hikes, and activities nearby. Highly recommended!
This is our second time staying here. We absolutely love the place and property. If your looking for a peaceful and tranquil place, this is it. Beautiful view of the mountains. The home has everything you could need for your stay. I would definitely recommend this home for your stay in Vermont.
Perfect stay for when you need to get away. The property is private and quiet, yet just a few minutes to provisions, restaurants, and recreation. I enjoyed reading on the porch surrounded by nature, daily walks on local trails, and cooking local produce and meats in the well appointed kitchen. Will be back!
We can’t recommend this house enough! We have returned multiple times for summer visits because we love the peaceful location, the comfortable house, and the proximity to great hiking and to the towns in the Mad River Valley. And Caroline and Mike are always great hosts!
Everything we needed. Consistently used the wood stove and Kitchen amenities. My wife snowshoed out the back while I skied at Sugarbush with the kids. Close to everything we wanted to see/do.
Property was perfect for our shirt weekend trip to visit Norwich University. We enjoyed sledding down the hill behind the barn. Kitchen is very well equipped. On our last day we were greated by a flock of turkeys walking down the drive. Would stay again.
We enjoyed this clean, spacious mountain house and the surrounding area. The house was well-stocked with everything we needed for the week. It was so sweet seeing deer walk through the property and the curious neighboring cows amble down the pasture to say hello. It’s a peaceful hideaway for lazy mornings and hanging out in the evening after a day of exploring Waitsfield, Stowe, Burlington, and Montpelier. For hiking without having to get in the car, check out the Pineneedle Trail just down the road from the house. And, it’s only about 20 minutes to Waitsfield for shops, restaurants, and Lawson’s brewery. We enjoyed two dinners on the outdoor patio at Hyde Away - highly recommend!
We enjoyed the serene location. Watching the cows was fun and our dogs got a kick out of them as well.
Furniture needs some serious updating! We were willing to look beyond because the home was clean and inviting.
Cannot tell you how much we appreciated having this spot though. Beds incredibly comfortable. TV was hard to manage but we do not do a lot of streaming services at this time
Art work was really fun. Appreciated the garage when packing up on a rainy day
Would come back again as the area was fun too. Loved the local Catholic Church yesterday
Home was cozy and private, a short 20 minute drive from Sugarbush, Montpelier, and Waterbury. Layout was perfect for a small group and the property was great for our dog who loves to run. Kitchen was well stocked with all of the utensils and spices you may need. Host was responsive when any issues came up. There was also an adequate supply of wood and kindling for the wood stove. There were a few minor issues and one major that led us to rate this as 4 stars instead of 5. Major being the furnace broke halfway through our trip so we woke up two mornings to a very cold house and no heat. Luckily there was a wood burning stove in the house but that carries its own safety risks where we couldn’t run it overnight or without ensuring children don’t get too close to the stove. The minor issues were primarily the cleanliness, where there was several spiders, dust and cobwebs in many places, and the bathrooms could have used a deeper cleaning to remove mold and mildew stains. The kitchen appliances are also in need of replacement, where the oven’s display is broken, the microwave door requires some strength to open, and the dishwasher needing a deep clean. Overall this was a nice place to stay and would recommend others to visit provided the owners remedy the issues I mentioned above.
We spent 2 weeks at Caroline and Mike's home in Moretown, enjoying the glorious Mad River Valley in August. We have stayed at other properties in the area so our feedback is with that experience in mind.
The Pros:
-Caroline and Mike were great hosts, easy to communicate with and responsive. They allowed us to change our dates when we needed to, and responded quickly and effectively when an issue came up at the house.
-The property is so beautiful. We especially loved the field behind the barn, the crystal clear creek, and the cows next door.
-The house was spacious and allowed us to spread out
-The espresso machine made mornings a delight :)
The Cons:
-If you are at all sensitive to mold, dust, or other allergens, this is not the rental for you.
-Linens are not provided; granted it was written somewhere in the listing but we didn't see that fine print until the week before our visit; had we been aware we might reconsider the value of this rental.
-The cost is rather steep considering the amount of labor we needed to put in at both the beginning and end of our vacation
Thank you again to Caroline and Mike for hosting us at their property; while it wasn't a great fit for us I can imagine it being great for another family, especially one with pets.
We had a great stay at Caroline and Mike’s place. The house was clean and modern and the property was just gorgeous. I was traveling with my young kids, and we spent most mornings by the stream and trying to spot frogs at the pond.
Caroline and Mike were wonderful to communicate with and we hope to be back soon!
The location of the house is surrounded by a beautiful mountain setting with peace and quiet all around. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this home and will definitely stay there again when in Vermont. House is as described in listing. It was also great for our dogs as there is 10 acres of property to let them explore. Piece a heaven for everyone.
The owners were great with responding to inquiries.
I would definitely recommend staying here if you have the opportunity to explore this area of Vermont.
This home and property and area are just great. Dirt roads, lush woods, mountains, farms, brooks, rivers, streams.
The house is comfortable and cozy. The bedrooms airy. The kitchen well supplied.
The hosts are incredibly responsive.
Note also that we stayed at this mountainside property during recent heavy rains in VT that flooded many lower-lying nearby areas. We felt safe and secure throughout.
Really enjoyed staying at this rural setting in the Mad River Valley. The home and property are great - beautiful farm setting and wonderful views of fall leaves from the deck and glassed-in porch. Enjoyed hiking around the hills and fields nearby. The wood stove keeps the house warm all day and into the evening. Convenient also to local sights. A great retreat for a couple or a family!
Mike and Caroline were great. What little communication we needed was prompt and helpful. We really liked the wood stove, the porches, the barn picnic table and the fire pit. So much space to spread out and little nooks to hang out in. The privacy of the property is fantastic though the cows from the adjacent farm were mildly interested in the guitar picking on the front porch. We would definitely return.
