We had a great week there with the kids. The lake is brilliant. There is awesome mountain biking nearby. Great to have bon echo park 10 minutes away. We'd return there for sure.
This is a rustic cottage with beautiful views of the lake. Clear deep lake that is great for swimming. The property had some maintenance issues that should be addressed.
Garbage disposal was a bit frustrating. We were almost turned away because we were not able to present a card proving that we are guests of the property. The facility required a card and sticker labels which were not provided to us. Facility administrators also advised that disposal sites are for local tax payers only.

Hi Kathleen, We are so sorry to hear about the difficulties with the dump, we had thought a copy of the card was left with the welcome instructions. We hope the rest of your stay was enjoyable and thanks for sharing this, we will be sure to address this right away. Shelly
My husband and I stayed at this cottage July 22-26, 2023. We had our dog with us. The lake is truly the draw for this cottage location.
Here is what we enjoyed the most about this property:
- Timely communication with the property owners. Big thumbs up.
- Cottage is larger than expected.
- The outdoor shower was quite lovely and private.
- Nice dock where you can access the water with a ladder attached. Plenty of floating noodles and life vests provided to enjoy the water.
- Canoe (but no kayak)
- There’s a double swing off one of the decks overlooking the lake.
- Bugs were not particularly an issue. More active at night/after rainfall.
- The cottage is a few decades old and its decor brings you back to another era. Definitely a 60s/70s feel. Quite nostalgic.
- There was plenty of firewood, kindle and paper to start a fire in the fire pit at the edge of the water. We brought our own though.
Things to consider/make note of:
- The cottage is located very close to a regional highway. It can be noisy, especially on the weekend.
- Some upkeep work is needed. Stepped on carpet nails by the wood stove in the living room. Wore flip flops in the house after that.
- Electrical outlets in bedrooms are two prongs. Bring two prongs extensions.
- No working lamps in front bedroom.
- Bring oven mitts.
- The property location/layout can be challenging if you have young kids/dog. Always be vigilant.
- No wifi. Cell reception is intermittent.
Perfect spot to jump in the water and relax with the family. What a gem of a lake! The property was cozy and kid-friendly, communication with Shelley was a breeze, and being so close to Bon Echo, there was no shortage of places to visit.
We loved our week at this beautiful property; swimming off the dock is just perfect and we had a peaceful, relaxing holiday paddling, enjoying the gorgeous views, and sitting around the bonfire. The outdoor shower is such a treat! What a great spot!
The waters of Lake Mazinaw are fresh and clean, our whole group really enjoyed them. The property was clean and comfortable, though some of the members of our party did not appreciate having to store toilet paper in a garbage can, and the odours that created. It would be nice if the listing indicated that it was a holding tank instead of a septic and toilet use would need to be regulated accordingly. The outdoor shower was unexpectedly enjoyable (who knew!). Unfortunately the property is pretty close to the highway and there is a fair amount of traffic noise starting early in the morning. If would be nice if the pictures give some hint of that so people would know in advance. Shelly, the owner, was easy to deal with and overall we really enjoyed our stay.
Comfy, clean older cottage on beautiful Mazinaw Lake, just a few kilometres from Bon Echo park for great day trips. Beautiful dock to jump off of, and deck to view across the lake. Comfy mattresses, and well stocked kitchen. Very clean and cute inside this old cottage. Lots of space for the family inside this cute older cottage, and a rustic outdoor shower experience. Of note, close to road, so some road sounds, and stairs down to water are steep.
