About this property

Methow Dog Cabin-Dog Friendly home between Winthrop&Mazama!

There's a rule here at the Dog Cabin, and we're serious: you must bring your dog.

Don’t leave them bored at home and don’t you dare send them to a kennel. Just think about all their hard work every day: standing guard at the window for deliveries, power naps, all that playing and cuddling and following you around from room to room. It’s exhausting! The Methow Dog Cabin is a place for them to relax and unwind, accompanied by their favorite humans. No maximum number of dogs, weight limit, or breed limitations. Time to let Max take you on a vacation.(Of course non dog owners are welcome too:)

Now that THAT'S out of the way, let’s talk about this enchanting 2-bedroom cabin in the woods. It was originally built in Winthrop and used as a small schoolhouse before being transported to this idyllic forty-acre farm in the Mazama corridor. Relax in a peaceful, pastoral setting with historic barns and sweeping fields just out the windows. The main floor features a hand-built stone propane fireplace and is a cozy spot to chat with family and friends (and the dog!) There are two complete living room gathering areas, a rustic front porch that looks out over the acres of open fields, as well as an enclosed deck—perfect for your fur babies to lounge in the sun off-leash.

There are two spacious upstairs bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and the second with a queen and two twin beds, along with a desk. Downstairs there is also a leather fold-out sleeper for an extra guest. The full kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans, plateware, bartending tools and stemware. The bathroom has a walk in shower. Shampoo/conditioner/body wash and hair dryer are provided.

The Methow Valley boasts the largest Nordic ski area in North America, and the trail is just a ¼ mile walk away. Whether it’s the legendary October larch hikes in the northern cascades, the 120 miles of cross-country ski and bike trails, or the rustic nostalgia of the delightful western-themed town of nearby Winthrop, the Methow Valley is becoming one of the most sought-after recreation destinations in Washington, and the Methow Dog Cabin is a gateway to it all. The property features plenty of space to walk the dog, and even backs up to the national forest.
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT YEAR ROUND TRAVEL INFORMATION--READ BEFORE BOOKING A RESERVATION:
1)It is the responsibility of the guest to have travel plans in place to travel either over the North Cascades via Highway 20 OR to travel over Steven's Pass through Leavenworth OR to travel I-90 over Snoqualmie to Blewett Pass through Wenatchee and then up the Columbia river to the Methow Valley. If one route is closed, it is the YOUR responsibility to make alternate plans for travel. NO REFUNDS will be given at any time of the year simply because an alternate route must be taken and add additional travel time. Highway 20 is closed in the winter and mountain passes can be closed anytime of the year because of wildfires, rockslides or other occurrences. Directions over all the routes will be sent to. you 3 days before your arrival. Make sure to check pass reports(and they can change while you are en route) and print out the directions before you leave.

2)Trail Access/Closure Information:
If you are coming to hike, bike, or ski on a trail or system of trails which happen to be closed before or during your stay, NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN because of this. Trail closures can occur anytime because of fire, rockslides, mud flows...and we have no control over this. There are many hiking, biking trails of various kinds in the Methow Valley. If access to the North Cascades National Park is closed via Hwy 20 for any reason, NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN because of this. There are a number of beautiful hikes, in and around our valley, that we would be happy to recommend.

INTERNET POLICY
**We strive to provide the best internet service we can get here in the very rural Methow Valley. Internet speeds vary throughout the valley and outages or tech issues can occur that we have no control over, and for these reasons NO REFUNDS are given if the internet is problematic. We also do not guarantee that the internet will meet your work/school needs. Should you have an issue with internet service, please send us a message through VRBO describing the problem. We will then contact you to troubleshoot. If the issue is not resolved, we will then contact the internet provider, and/or homeowner. Please note... our valley is very rural and getting service personnel to fix things in a timely manner can be a challenge. We rent lodging, not office space.

Public internet is available at the Winthrop library with enhanced internet speed (parking lot or inside the library). Alternatively, for a fee you can go to the Dropzone in downtown Winthrop. Thank you for your understanding!

IMPORTANT WINTER INFORMATION POLICY :
**Should you travel to the Methow during the winter months it is important to understand that you must be prepared for winter driving(keep chains, shovel...in the car) and all the inconveniences it causes you and the community you are visiting. The weather can be extreme with large snowfalls, unexpected technical issues, frozen pipes, impassable roads/driveways). If it snows while here you will have to wait for plow service just like every other person in the valley. There are a limited number of plow companies and Methow Reservations nor the owners of the house are in control of the plow company schedules. They have many different contracts and many miles of roads, driveways...to plow. If a plow person or a snow shoveler shows up to clear any area around the house, please do not argue with them or turn them away. Move your vehicles if asked. Your cooperation and patience are required especially after any significant snow accumulation. Should you get stuck you can call Classic Towing in Twisp, WA

**WEATHER CONDITIONS**

We cannot be responsible for winter weather conditions. If you will be arriving during the winter, please be sure you have proper equipment for driving in the snow, and carry tire chains for driving over the passes. Our local roads are always kept open and in good condition for winter travel. There are no refunds for road closures; however, if both Stevens and Snoqualmie mountain passes are closed for more than eight hours and the closures prohibit you from reaching the property, you may reschedule your stay for an arrival within three months of the pass closures. Please note that the North Cascades Pass is always closed during winter.

We recommend you check weather conditions before driving through the passes during the winter at the DOT's website

**Propane Fireplace--The propane stove is a supplemental heating source not the main one. If there should be tech issues or the propane fireplace during your stay, please send a message through VRBO. Methow Reservations and the owner will try to troubleshoot and remedy the problem. If the problem requires a part or there is an issue with the propane company that may take longer that your stay, NO REFUNDS will be given. The guest will use the main electric heating source at any times that the propane stove may be out of operation.

Adorable mountain home near cascades and quaint Mazama.

Adorable home. Location and local community were awesome. Would stay there again. My only feedback is to consider upgrading the pillows and linens. Minor though and we enjoyed our stay very much.

We had a ball!

What a beautiful quiet property! We enjoyed the books and games and the well-appointed kitchen. Close to all trails and Sun Mountain Lodge where we had a delicious Thanksgiving dinner. We were in awe to see the Milky Way above us! Looking forward to returning to The Methow Dog House!

Methow Dog House

Nice secluded , private property. Very close to Cascades making it easy to go back and forth. Nice porch to hang out, fireplace for cool nights. Nice updated kitchen. Only one bathroom and it’s downstairs, that’s the only negative. Would I go back again if in the area? Absolutely! Great place for family.

Cabin in the mountains

My 1st trip to mountains of Washington & No Cascades was a dream. Our stay in this rental far exceeded expections. Very well stocked with spices, coffees & kitchen stuff. Close to stores & towns (Mazma & the ‘old west’ town of Winthrop). Great launching point for hiking & doing overlooks & even kayaking (Silverline Lakeside Resort). I had erred in booking our dates by 1 day. Owners were so reasonable & understanding in extending our stay while we were there. Definitely would book again!

Beautiful Deck

Family getaway to see North Cascades NP.We love dogs but didn’t take them across the continent! In Maine, we would liken this cottage to “Upta Camp”. Mildly rustic, in the woods, and not much to do (that’s a good thing). I would recommend guests stock up on spices because the kitchen is sparse, although there is an espresso maker! A bear family walked right by our window first night there! Rental agency was very responsive to pick up trash since there is no bear proof receptacle available.

Short trip

The cabin is as described. We loved the location and relaxing setting, the deck was wonderful to sit and have meals. I didn't read close enough and thought there would be coffee/tea available at the cabin, but only the coffee makers with filters are provided. May seem small, but when you're up early to hike and the local store closes early and doesn't open until 7am...it becomes critical :) Just a suggestion but I would provide ground coffee or whole with grinder (keep in freezer) and tea as part of the basics provided to seal the cozy relaxing cabin in the woods experience.

Rustic House

Rustic House We loved the rustic charm and the woodsy location of this beautiful old house. The dog memorabilia made us smile and our pup feel very welcome. She was a little concerned about the stuffed bear, but they made fast friends. 🙃. Everything we could possibly need - and things we didn’t even think we needed - were available. An espresso machine was new for us and we enjoyed trying it out. We thought we would miss having a TV but didn’t, at all. The old Western town of Winthrop was an adventure, as well as the Farmer’s Market in Twisp. Lots of memories were made and we would love to return if ever in the area.

Great location

Home was clean and had everything we needed. Do note that it does not have A/C. I should have noticed that in the listing before I booked it during a heat wave! My fault. Afternoon temp in the house was 89 degrees, and was still 78 degrees in the morning. Also note that the internet does not work with Apple devices. I know that sounds strange, but the owner told us to try a non Apple device and it worked just fine. Owner was responsive. Would definitely stay here again in the spring or fall.

Cabin in the trees

A nice rustic property in the trees with an awesome fireplace. Although not as close to the trailheads as the listing suggests it is still very close (15 to 20 minutes)to the trails in the Washington Pass Area and convenient to Winthrop. We would stay again.

Great family getaway!

This was a perfect spot for our family! The setting is beautiful tucked into the woods for privacy and quiet, but still a convenient location right outside Winthrop. We stayed with our three little kids and my mom and sister and had plenty of room. Very comfortable and clean. Loved the deck and outdoor space! Would definitely stay again!
