The Space:
Happy Pines is a two-bedroom cabin is nestled at the edge of the forest on the Wilson Ranch property, just steps from the Freestone Inn. It’s ideal for those looking to explore the outdoors, with direct access to the Methow Community Trail for Nordic skiing, mountain biking, and hiking. In the winter, the Sandy Butte Nordic ski trail passes close by, offering easy access to the Upper Methow Nordic Trail system from your doorstep.
The cabin features two spacious bedrooms, each with corner windows offering serene forest views. The main bedroom has a king bed, while the second bedroom has twin beds. The wood-paneled living room is both inviting and functional, complete with a queen-size fold-out couch, easy chair, dining table for six, a wide-screen TV, and a gas stove. The galley kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need for your stay, including an electric stove, oven, microwave, under-counter refrigerator, sink, and coffee maker. The compact bathroom is outfitted with a shower.
Step outside onto the small deck, where you’ll find a propane BBQ grill and Adirondack chairs perfect for enjoying the natural surroundings. A picnic table nearby offers a lovely spot for outdoor meals.
This cabin is a great basecamp for up to six guests, offering access to some of the best outdoor adventures in the Methow Valley. The North Cascade Heli-Skiing operation is also located nearby on the Freestone property, making it a convenient choice for heli-skiers (please note, you may hear helicopters during the ski season). The cabin is ideally located for accessing both the Methow Community Trail and the Mazama trailhead hub, offering endless opportunities for skiing, mountain biking, and hiking. You’ll also be just a short drive from Washington Pass and the North Cascades’ hiking trails.
Please note, the cabin currently has no WiFi, but installation is planned for the near future.
The Neighborhood:
MAZAMA
Wilson Ranch is located 2 miles (10 minute bike ride) from the Mazama Store and the Methow Trails trailhead (for great hiking, mountain biking and cross-country ski trail options). In addition to the store with its great bakery and grocery, Mazama is home to the Goat’s Beard outdoor store (with mountain bike and fat bike rentals), the Mazama Ski School for cross country ski hire and lessons and the Mazama Public House. Please be aware that the Sandy Butte Bistro at the nearby Freestone Inn is not currently operating, and Jack's Hut may or may not be open on a very limited basis.
NORTH CASCADES NATIONAL PARK
The Wilson Ranch cabins are also conveniently situated for easy access to the North Cascades and the trailheads to many of the Park's world-class hiking trails. It’s under 20 minutes drive to the Cutthroat Lake trailhead, 25 minutes to Washington Pass and 30 minutes to Maple Pass trailhead. Great for beating the crowds and snagging a trailhead parking spot at peak seasons.
Getting Around:
Getting Here: May to November, from Seattle and the westside, you can drive over State Route 20 and Washington Pass (check WSDOT for closures). Alternate, and winter routes from Seattle are via I90, Snoqualmie Pass and Bluett Pass, or via highway 2 over Stevens Pass (check WSDOT for driving conditions). Combine these routes and you have the scenic Cascade Loop. The nearest major airports are Spokane International Airport at 180 miles (year round) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (190 miles in summer / 260 miles in winter). Regional flights are also available at Pangborn Memorial Airport in Wenatchee located 102 miles away.
Getting Around: Nearest winter trail is the Methow Community Trail. The Mazama Store is 2 miles / 10 minute bike ride. Winthrop is 14 miles / 18 minutes drive.
Other Things to Note:
Happy Pines (C14) is a privately owned cabin located on the Wilson Ranch property. Guests have access to the seasonal pool and hot tub at The Freestone Inn; guests do not currently have access the The Freestone Inn main lodge unless dining (if open).
There is currently NO WIFI at this property.
PETS - one dog is allowed for a fee of $50 per pet, per stay. Pets are limited to one dog.
This cabin can sleep 6 guests. The sleeping arrangements are a king bed in the main bedroom, twin beds in the second bedroom, and a queen sized fold-out couch in the living room. 4 guests are included in the base rate, additional guests up to maximum of 6 are charged at $25 per person per night.
Heating is provided by wall heaters and the gas stove. There are window mounted air-conditioners provided in the living room and bedrooms during the summer.
For winter stays a local snow plowing service takes care of the Wilson Ranch roads. Please be patient after snow storms as they have many properties to clear. You will need to shovel the entryway area.
