This one story, open floor plan mountain home is perfect for a couples getaway or a family gathering with your four legged family member. We happily allow two dogs to join you. If you have additional dogs, please notify us.

Packing and unpacking the vehicle is easy since parking is just a few steps away from the entrance. When entering the cottage, warm hues will instantly welcome you into the dining room where you will notice the beautiful, vaulted wood ceiling, antler chandelier and stone fireplace. The dining room fireplace quickly warms the chill from a cool morning and the two overstuffed chairs invite you to relax with a cup of coffee. Just beyond the dining area is the open kitchen, nicely situated between the dining room and living area, making it easy for the chef to be a part of every conversation. The dining room trestle table creates a space of warmth for family to gather around. While the kitchen’s antique game table is made for two to enjoy a meal or play a game of chess or checkers.

The kitchen is fully equipped to prepare an endless variety of meals. The top-of-the-line appliances are only the beginning. If you enjoy cooking, you will be delighted to find sturdy pots and pans, roasting pan, crock pots, a rice cooker, air fryer and more. A burr grinder for freshly ground coffee and Hamilton Beach Flexbrew Trio coffee maker (k-cup, single or carafe brew) stand ready to make your morning brew. If you prefer, take a seat at the bar in the comfortable bar stools, overlooking the kitchen.

Stepping to the living area from the kitchen, notice the large stone fireplace and beautiful Ambrosia Maple wine bar and cabinet. Above the fireplace is a large Smart TV with cable TV. You will also find many board games, books, and puzzles, for all ages to enjoy on those lazy mountain days.

The spacious screened-in porch is the ideal space to dine outside or spend time catching up with family on the comfy lounge furniture…rain or shine.

At day's end, a restful night’s sleep awaits in comfortable beds. The master bedroom offers a king memory foam bed with linen bedding, Smart TV with cable TV, ceiling fan and private bathroom with double sink, combination shower and tub. Note that jets are not operating in tub.

At the opposite end of the hallway is the second bedroom with a queen memory foam bed, linen bedding, and private bath with two sinks and combination tub/shower. The queen bedroom has its own large Smart TV with cable.

With twin bunk beds, the third bedroom is ideally suited for children or young teens. The bunk beds have memory foam mattresses with linen bedding. The room is also equipped with a flat screen TV and cable. The third bathroom is located in the hallway, just outside this bedroom, and offers a shower, pedestal sink and toilet. The stacked washer & dryer is thoughtfully located between the three bedrooms.

On a cool night build a fire in the fire pit, roast marshmallows and watch the treetops wave in the night breeze. The fenced in outdoor patio also offers a Weber gas grill connected to the house propane line so it is always ready to grill. Bluebird Day Cottage has a whole house generator so you will never be without power. This is essential for a comfortable mountain experience!

Finally, Bluebird Day Cottage is wonderfully situated in Highlands. Easily walk to downtown Highlands restaurants and boutiques. Step out the door and hike the greenway, Sunset Rock or to the top of Satulah Mountain.

Wonderful relaxing mountain vacation!!
The property was amazing and we totally enjoyed the two seating areas with a gas fireplace and the two bar areas. We brought fire wood and enjoyed two fires in the pit are with s’mores. The beds and linens were very nice and the bunk bed room was perfect for our toddler. We did not walk into town due to the traffic on the main road, but we would have with just adults. The fenced in area was perfect for our small dog, especially during out two cold days, one with snow flurries. An A+ destination!

Absolutely beautiful property!!
My partner and our two young children and our two dogs stayed at Bluebird Cottage. We frequent the Highlands and loved finding this gem. Location is perfect and the hosts could not have been more accommodating and helpful. This is a great place and we would highly recommend it.

Highlands
It was nice. Front porch is huge plus. The second bedroom and bunk room are quite small. We had 5 adults and the family pooch and were very comfortable. Parking was a bit of a challenge but not unusual for the area. We were able to get 2 crew cab pickups and a full size SUV in the space with no problem. Contact with host was excellent!

Enjoyable Long Weekend in Highlands NC
We were thrilled to see that the house was as represented. It was clean and comfortable, well appointed with all that we needed. We especially appreciated their guidebook that told us about the house, places to shop and buy groceries, and outdoor activities.

We currently live in Melbourne Beach, FL with our two French Bulldogs, Gouda and Brie. We love the outdoors and have been avid stand up paddleboard and outrigger canoe racers since 2010. Around that time we decided to vacation in North Georgia on Lake Burton to escape the summer heat of Florida. We stopped in Highlands after hiking Rabun Bald, which is part of the Bartram Trail. We've explored many small towns for a "mountain getaway vacation rental" and kept returning to Highlands for its unique charm. We've owned and managed several popular short term vacation rentals on St Simons Island, GA and Fernandina Beach, FL. So this isn't new to us. In 2020 we decided to look for a Highlands getaway we, and our guests, could enjoy. After looking at many, we decided this cottage had everything we wanted in our Highlands getaway and became the proud owners in January 2021.

Why they chose this property

The Blubird Day Cottage was built in 1964 as a small rustic mountain getaway. It had a major renovation in 2013 that added two bedrooms and two bathrooms. We are thankful the previous owners maintained some of the original features like the living room batten board walls and stone front steps. Over time the steps have settled and became unsafe to use. So we repurposed the steps into a terraced flower garden and added a bird bath nearby. The covered & screened front porch is an outdoor space that can be enjoyed most of the year, rain or shine! We love the open floor plan and multiple gathering spaces inside and outside the house. Let the two sets of gas log fireplaces warm you on a chilly morning. Then build a roaring fire in the outdoor firepit in the evening to roast marshmallows. Soak in the Master Bedroom's large tub and slip into linen bedding to dream of tomorrow's adventures.

What makes this property unique

Take a break from driving the mountain roads! The location of Bluebird Day Cottage is ideal for walking to town, Mirror Lake, and The Bartram Art Center. Just a short walk out the front door will get you to the scenic Greenway trails throughout the Town of Highlands. There is a map of the Greenway Trails in our Welcome Book. Our two Frenchies enjoy exploring the Holt Knob neighborhood be there are mountain views just steps out our back door and minimal cars on the road. However, located less than a half mile to the center of Highlands is a nice benefit. And don't forget, the cottage is a short distance from August Produce and nearly across the street from Highlands Smokehouse, which has tasty brisket and chicken wings!
