Downtown Oak St Farmhouse near Mesa Verde/Durango - Work and Wander!
This well-equipped, historic Farmhouse is located in downtown Mancos—a thriving arts community with a “wild west” vibe. Work comfortably from home, walk to restaurants, grab a cider, beer or a coffee just a minutes walk from the front door. The house sits 10 minutes drive time from the Mesa Verde National Park gate, 15 minutes from the mountain biking mecca, Phil’s World, or 30 minutes from downtown Durango. Nearby Cortez has additional amenities and access to the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument.
**The space** Oak Street Farmhouse is a historic, 130+ year-old house (built in 1888!) with a ton of character. It has been renovated with modern conveniences, a fun and vibrant aesthetic, and a more open layout.
The house has an open floor plan with a full kitchen, dining, and living room that flow into one another. The downstairs office has a bath/shower directly across the hall. Upstairs is the master bedroom, attached master bath, and tv/lounge area.
Enjoy a meal or a conversation outdoors under the comfortable, covered back patio right off the kitchen that adjoins the large backyard. A full laundry room is available for what may be a much needed, mid-adventure clean-up.
This is not your typical rental setup. We often think about the amenities we would love to have when we're travelling - spices, oils for meals, complete cook sets, a bbq, music and entertainment (including books!) are all things we want to pass on to our guests. We have a HomePod Mini speaker downstairs for great music, use your streaming apps on each TV, and enjoy fast, reliable wifi throughout the house and outside patio thanks to Eero. And don’t worry about keys during your stay, the front door will be pre-programmed with your own unique entry code.
At 7,000 feet in elevation, Mancos enjoys cool evenings in the summer, but we don’t typically get enough snow during the winter to worry about getting stranded.
As of June 2024, the house has a brand new furnace and whole-house forced-air A/C system.
**Guest Access** The house has 2 off-street parking spaces and there is usually plenty of street parking. With our keypad lock you will not have to worry about keys! We are in downtown Mancos—in the historic district—and most Mancos restaurants, galleries, shops, and coffee spots are a short walk away (5-10 minutes).
**Other details to note** While recently-renovated, please note that this is an older home: the height of the downstairs ceilings are standard, but the height of some of the ceilings in the upstairs master bedroom are lower. Anyone over 6 feet tall will have to duck in a few places upstairs to avoid hitting their head as they move about.
Note: We are currently only offering stays of 30 days or longer.
***Looking for something more remote or for a shorter time-frame?*** Ask us about our short-term rentals outside of town: the Cliff House or Workshop Loft at Sage Canyon. Both are surrounded by a beautiful red rock canyon just southwest of Cortez, Colorado.

Mancos is an extremely dog friendly town. We had two beagles with us. The fenced yard is huge, but beagles are escape artists so we always had to be back there with them because they could easily dig out under the fence.
We enjoyed the home which is very old & there's still a few things that could be replaced. The owners were very prompt with answering any questions & taking care of any needs we had.
We're very picky about cleanliness so there were places I cleaned upon arriving. I gave my suggestions. With old homes it's harder & more time consuming to clean so there needs to be ample time for that in between guests.
Over all it wasn't to bad. The upstairs was hot, the little air conditioner was so loud we couldn't sleep with it on. We had to shut it off and use the fan. We only had 2 towels upstairs. The seating in the living room wasn't ideal for 4 people. The 2 chairs were very uncomfortable but the couch was nice. There was no ceiling fan in the living room so it got a little warm during the day.
The town of Mancos is nice. Not a lot to do but a nice coffee shop and restaurant within walking distance. Overall we weren't to disappointed the house was close to the things we wanted to do.
Overall we rate this property a 5! The town of Man cos and the drive back and forth to Durango was breathtaking! Especially this time of year! Owners were quick to respond, even went out of their way to come light the pilot on the fireplace so we could enjoy the fireplace one cold wet evening! The bakery down the street is worth every minute you wait to get in!!!!! People are friendly and welcoming! The little Catholic church, it's parishioners and priest gave Sunday morning an extra special grace! Thanks!
Staying at the oakwood was a great time. It was nice being walking distance to downtown Mancos. A couple minor issues came up and Grant was easy to communicate with.
We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful, comfortable home in Mancos. Great location, quiet area and easy walk to town , we walked to the bakery every morning ( it is a must!!!). The house had everything we needed !
Thanks Grant and Laura
Lovely central location that is easy walking distance to town. We hiked during our stay and found we easily hiked in both Utah and Colarado. The beds were fabulous after a long day of exploring mesas and canyons!
The house was cute and nicely done for an older home. It could use more oven friendly pans and kitchen linens. Cleaning was Ok but not over the top. All in all it was comfortable and close to small local business and a great community.
Nicely updated home, with modern conveniences like fast Internet and a great television setup, well equipped, very comfortable, quiet neighborhood. Patio was especially relaxing in the evening, quiet, cool breeze. Twice we walked to town for a delicious breakfast at Absolute Bakery. Location is convenient to Mesa Verde and The Canyons of the Ancients. There were no surprises, the property is exactly as described in the VRBO listing. We made use of the Level 2 EV charger in town, also walkable. We really enjoyed our stay.

Why they chose this property
Laura had been coming to the Four Corners, sleeping in a tipi on the ledge of a canyon each summer for a program run by a non-profit in Durango (which she serves on the board of directors for). After she purchased property near Cortez, Grant started visiting and fell in love with the area as well.
