Great Home, Fully Furnished and a now a new sauna for after the days adventures!
A couple of new upgrades to our home. We have just installed 240 charging for electric vehicles (sorry not Tesla - this is a level 2 J1772). We also installed a 5 person infrared sauna! So for all you bikers and hikers and skiers and hunters, it is a great way to relax! This two bedroom home provides you with a comfortable and convenient location for all your fun in Southwest Colorado. Great outdoor sports and interesting destinations lie in all directions and when the day is done, come 'home' to relax in comfort. Sleeps 4 comfortably in two full bedrooms and then there is a futon that can be relocated as needed for 2 more and we can accommodate extra children that love to 'camp out'. Fully loaded kitchen, bathroom, separate dining area and breakfast nook give you plenty of living space. Loops coffee shop next door can get your caffeine needs and breakfast burrito ready to go. All four seasons are a wonderful time to visit the Southwestern United States. Spring weather can have a few storms but generally we have sunny days, the national parks are open, and the weather is beautiful for exploring. Summer days are for bike riding, hiking, boating, and adventures. Fall is a wonderful time in the Southwest region for your color watch - seeing the trees change into their glorious new wardrobe before winter. Hunters can have all the amenities and still be close to a multitude of good hunting spots. Wintertime equates to great skiing at either Purgatory (formerly known as the Durango Mountain Resort) or Telluride. Cross country ski almost anywhere when the snow is good. The Dolores River is literally 200 yards from your front door and McFee Reservoir is 1 mile away. Go skiing in Telluride or Durango, great mountain biking can be found at Boggy Draw (3 miles away) or Phil's World (12 miles away) just to name a few. Visit Mesa Verde or check out the Ute Mountain Tribal park to fulfill your archeological dreams. Truly there are too many things to do in the area to list them all. We recently became an Electric Vehicle owner and so we have charging access by both level 1 and level 2 charging for SAE J1772 (we have a Chevrolet Bolt).

We enjoyed our stay very much here as was convenient location to friends in town as well as other activities we were doing. Only draw back to the house was the TV did not have cable or streaming options but we weren’t there to watch TV so it didn’t really matter anyway.
Would stay here again for sure! Comfy bed and pillows.
Robbie and Steve are exceptionally gracious and welcoming hosts. The home is well laid out for two couples. Kitchen is spacious and well appointed.

Glad the home worked for you all while house hunting! I have a feeling our paths will cross again and again and we will look forward to having new friends in the area.
Cool old house in Dolores. The hosts were very friendly and easy to get ahold of. Kitchen was well equipped and the beds were quite comfortable. The house didn't have air conditioning but was very comfortable. Cool town with a great brewery down the street that served up good beer and a variety of foods depending on the day. They make a great pizza there. Lots of locals and live music.

We love having Jimmy and his family come. They obviously enjoy using our home and are very respectful guests.
My husband and I stayed in beautiful Delores for seven nights. We enjoyed exploring Mesa Verde and the Canyons of the Ancients. Robby and Steve's home was the perfect base to return to after a long day of exploring. The home was spotless, the bed was super comfy, and the bathroom was spacious. We especially enjoyed the little breakfast nook. Robby and Steve are fantastic hosts with excellent communication skills. We will return next time we are in the area.
I stayed about two weeks as I visited family locally. I very much enjoyed the accommodations; they were quite comfortable and the owner clearly pays a lot of attention to detail. Communication with the owner was easy and prompt.
Very clean and nicely decorated (minus one slightly creepy painting). It had a well equipped kitchen which is always greatly appreciated. Tons of helpful info in the house and within the welcome letter for those who haven't visited the area before. The only complaint which is maybe a weird one, is the toilet was too small (for a bigger guy like myself). Otherwise I highly recommend staying here and we will likely be doing so again in the future! Thanks for the hospitality!
It was very easy to host Erin and her party. They were very self sufficient, left our home in great shape and were easy to communicate with. We appreciate you.

We spent a week in this wonderful and cozy property for a father/son elk hunting trip at the end of October in 2021. I can’t say enough about how great our experience was. This is a great place to stay with wonderful hosts. I highly recommend this property.

Hey Greg, for a bunch of hunters you left our place amazingly clean and that is highly appreciated. We enjoyed you all very much and just the fun you all have together. Thanks for sharing Halloween with us and Dolores. Sorry the elk did not quite cooperate. You all are great and welcome back any time.

We.enjoyed our week in "Fort Dolores" so much. Hubby hunted in the nearby forest while i took walks around town, read, and knitted. We had some great meals.out in the evenings at local restaurants. As for the property, it is spacious, comfy, fully equipped, quiet, and charming. Steve and Robby are great hosts. They even accommodated our reservation change atthe last minute. Absolutely recommend this VRBO.

This property was perfect for our family of 4 (including two teenagers). We used the air mattress. The property had everything we needed, including everything we needed to cook. Owners were quick to reply to questions. We would be happy to stay here again!

Great having you stay here in Dolores at our home. Great guests and left everything in good shape. Come back and visit again!
Another great trip to Dolores visiting family. We stayed here a few years ago and had such a great experience we stayed again. The location is perfect- one block from the river, a short walk to the market and close to many sightseeing opportunities like Mesa Verde.
The house stayed cool and comfortable, the beds are comfortable as well, the shower has awesome water pressure and the kitchen was well equipped.
Even though we stayed to ourselves, Robbie made us feel well taken care of and was available for any needs that we might have.
Next time we visit, we will be sure to stay here again!

We get the best guests. They know how to enjoy the qualities of our area, they leave our home in great shape and we are always delighted to host. You all are great!
My friends and I came down forba few days to do Mesa Verde and other putdoor acyivites. The house was absolutely adorable, well stocked and perfect for our needs. There is a coffee shop right out your front door which was very convenient. Steve and Robby were so kind and welcoming. We loved the town of Dolores and everything it had to offer. If we ever come back down south we will definitely stay here!

A perfect stay!
The comfortable house, the good lighting, the more than friendly reception, the fact that everything functions - what more could we wish for? Well - on top of that we got a trip in the 1962 VW 23-window minibus up the mountain, a tour of the mountain property (plus more antique cars) and a precious time in our wonderful hosts' company enjoying wine and cheese - making a great vacation perfect.
P.S. Favorite restaurants in Dolores: Montezuma and Dolores River Brewery. Favorite restaurants in Cortez: Shiloh Steak House and Farm Bistro.

Helen and Erik,
We so enjoyed having you stay and getting a bit of the Danish perspective on the world! Glad that Fort Dolores helped give you a "perfectly great vacation." And it is nice to know that the lighting is good. We agree with you that poor lighting can ruin the experience of an otherwise good accommodation and I am glad we succeeded.
May all your travels be wonderful.

Lovely home with everything we needed !!
Robbie and Steve were a pleasure dealing with. I needed a package delivered to us on our stay. Robbie was so great in helping me out to ensure we got the package. Thanks again for that Robbie. I just love staying there it truly is a home away from home. I look forward to going back.

Our Dolores Vacation
I must say our families stay was of course a memorable one. Robbie and Steve were able to fulfil a request we had put in for a grill. Thanks so much for that. We loved that the lake is only 300 ft from the house and that jumping rock is right there for us to cool off into. The rooms and kitchen are beautiful. Dolores is a peaceful and relaxing town. Thank goodness we picked Dolores to vacation in because that is what I consider a vacation peaceful and relaxing.

So glad Dolores works for you and your family! We appreciate getting tips on making our home more home-like. We will look forward to seeing you on another visit!
Fort Dolores was perfect for our family trip. Two downstairs bedrooms and a bathroom for those in our group with mobility issues. 2 1/2 bedrooms and another bathroom upstairs. All of the rooms are very large, clean and comfortable. Also, high praise on the comfort of the beds.
Located conveniently in town for walking to restaurants and the Food Market. It was very nice working with Robby and Steve. We enjoyed the fresh vegetables they shared. Quick and easy communications.
Hope to come back soon!!!

About the host
Hosted by Roberta Henes
Steve is a true local, born and raised here and Robby is an 'almost local' having moved to the area when she was 5 years old. After working overseas for almost 15 years, Robby came home to take a break and met Steve who convinced her that life in Dolores was worth sticking around for! Steve currently continues his furniture restoration business in and amongst restoring old cars and improving on some mountain property. Robby is deeply involved in a seed company providing native grasses and wildflowers for reclamation. Pickle ball is the newest addition to their lives adding more exercise and fun. Beware if you stay very long we will try to recruit you.
Why they chose this property
201 is one of the older homes in Dolores. In its day it was considered a luxurious home (although by todays standards it was small) and built by a local doctor. Before Steve purchased the home in 1990, it was a day care center. With Steve's construction skills and artistic vision, the home has been updated and modernized including raising the roof. Influences from Mexico grace the kitchen and bathroom. Funky spaces that would make most people scratch their head have been converted into great storage or interesting architectural features. Robby and Steve live in an upstairs flat next door with a huge open air plan.
What makes this property unique
As you can probably see from the photo's this house makes you want to explore it. With interesting dormers and porches, it calls for a good book and cup of coffee, or supplies a haven after a long hike. It is a landmark in Dolores and if you have the good sense to visit in December, we normally have a sailboat out front decorated from head to toe in lights.
