About this property

Welcome to the "Brewster Standard" The Johnson family home. The Johnson family has a history of visiting Nantucket for 4 generations and we are happy to share our knowledge to make your Nantucket stay extra special. We take pride in providing a comfortable and relaxing environment for our guests. Our ambition is to provide you with a memorable experience and all the ingredients to create life-long lasting Nantucket memories - as our family has enjoyed for generations.
Our center island home is tucked away on quiet Roberts Lane, where you will find the humble front entry. If you choose to enter through the old pantry, after a few steps into the new spacious kitchen, you will see a beautifully restored house unfold.
Take notice to the many woodworking details in our proud "Great Room" with cathedral ceilings, fireplace and stairs leading to the 2nd floor sleeping quarters.
Enjoying the grill and dining area outside on our spacious red brick patio or relax with a book under the veranda listening to the birds or crickets sing.
Detached from our home we have a garage apartment where we rent to a full-time teacher. She will come and go from time to time and has access to the driveway. There is ample parking in front of the house for 2 cars and this parking space is reserved for you.
You will have undisturbed, private access to the amenities around the house, patio, and grill. There is nothing shared by the rental tenant.
We hope you make use of our "Welcome" tips and trust you will find all the basic amenities for a pleasant stay as well as a few items to help you with a day on the beach.

Overall, a great place to stay
The house had everything you could need - ample space, ample parking, even a bike rack. All the bedrooms have an AC unit, which is key especially with how humid it gets. The great room which mega high ceiling is a great place to spend time - our only issue is that even with the windows open and the ceiling fan going, it was pretty humid in there. Had we been staying longer we probably would have picked up a dehumidifier and another fan. (The ceiling is so high that without a cross breeze, the ceiling fan doesn't do much). But these are nitpicks - make no mistake, this is a great house and the owner and his family were super easy to communicate with. This was our 10th time getting a house on Nantucket for a week, so we've pretty much seen it all. These guys know how to host.

Amazing, relaxing, central location
Just spent the week at this property and could not have been happier. The house is so clean, welcoming and comfortable. Host was very easy to communicate with and helped to make sure we had everything we needed. Kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook. Close to everything , nice outdoor space and huge yard. Very private and peaceful location. Much larger than in pictures. Would highly recommend and definitely look forward to returning.

Nantucket Charm
The Brewster Standard was wonderful, had everything we needed for a relaxing ennoyable time on Nantucket. Private, yet accessible to town, food store and restaurants. Our host had a well written and informative guide for our stay. Thank you Robert.

Great home for families!
This home is fantastic for families! Walkable to a number of great places to eat, a kid's playground, and grocery stores (1mile away), we cannot recommend it more! They made the home inviting and warm, with all the necessities available to you - beach chairs, kids beach toys, boogie boards! The outdoor shower is a bonus, as well as the laundry right off the mudroom. We would recommend that you rent a car in Nantucket as beaches were a drive away (if you add in coolers, beach chairs and such!) The home itself was really wonderful, spacious, and we took advantages of laying out in the hammock to relax. The owners couldn't have been kinder, checking in on us (especially during a hurricane!) and we really enjoyed our visit. They'll see us again soon, I'm sure. Thank you for opening up your home to us and giving us time as a family to relax and enjoy!

Convenient!
The home is in a very convenient location making it easy to get around the island. The house was well stocked and the owner was responsive with any questions. Please note there is a tenant in the detached garage apartment.

About the host

Hosted by Robert Johnson

Host profile image
I am Robert, the oldest son of the owner, Alexandra Johnson. I am currently living in Denmark and helping manage the rental of my mothers house. I travel to Nantucket as often as I can with my Danish family where we meet up with my mother, my brother and his family at our Nantucket homestead. My brother Erik as well as my my mother, Alexandra, live in Brewster, New York year round. We are several families today dominated by teachers, except for myself with a background in digital marketing.
My mother grew up vacationing on Nantucket all her life, as did her parents. During our college years, my brother and I spent a number of working summers on the island. We know the island very well and have a good network of friends who live on Nantucket year round.

Why they chose this property

We hope you find everything you need to enjoy a memorable stay. My brother and I will be as helpful as possible with your trip planning. Please let us know if we may offer any guidance.
This property is literally in the center of the island and since traffic can be heavy in the summer - this will be an advantage to always have free parking and be able to get to the best beaches, town and grocery shopping. Only 2 miles to the best surf beaches, a 20 minute walk into the center of town, and 1 mile to grocery shopping. When you wake up in the morning, you will likely see deer roaming around the front lawn and an occasional pheasant may drop in as well. The surrounding are peaceful and we have the world's best neighbors and tenant living next store in the adjacent garage apartment.

What makes this property unique

We hope you are a little awe inspired by the "Great Room" with cathedral ceilings. It is a wonderful place to cool down after a day at the beach and feel the breeze from the ceiling fan. Furthermore, being outside under the covered veranda is the perfect place to relax, read a book and listen to the grass grow. Be sure to experience a night when you turn off all the lights and stare up at the milky way. On clear nights, there are few places where you can get such a rich experience.
