About this property

Beach Front Villa with Down Island View - Priceless!

Enjoy morning coffee or have breakfast on one of the two balconies as you watch the sun rise over the BVI.

Afterwards, don your bathing suits and grab your beach towels to enjoy the two-level pool directly below your condo or spend the day under the sea grape trees that line the beach. Snorkel on the reef directly off the beach (you’ll see coral, topical fish and possibly a sea turtle or ray), or wind surf, kayak or paddle-boat.

Beach toys are available at the fully equipped dive shop on the beach. You can also enjoy a game of beach volleyball on the beach. And the beautiful Mahogany Run golf course is 20 minutes away. Wrap up your day back on the balcony sipping a beverage as you look out on the moon over the ocean.

The Unit: Your 900 sq. ft. two-story villa sleeps up to 6 comfortably, whether they be family or friends. It features a Caribbean decor in an open floor plan, with cathedral ceilings upstairs. The lower floor consists of a fully equipped kitchenette, dining area, and sitting area with a flat screen TV and queen size sofa/bed.

Upstairs there is a king size bed, TV, and another sitting area with a queen size sofa/bed. Both floors have a private balcony with a fabulous down-island view. There is a full bathroom on both floors.

A short walk to the marina at Sapphire Beach offers day cruises including snorkeling excursions, trips to the BVI, deep-sea fishing and scuba diving. Some boats are power, some are sail. You can also rent a jet ski or go parasailing.

Red Hook (small town 1/2 mile away): Breakfast, lunch or dinner can be enjoyed after a 5-minute taxi ride into Red Hook at one of the many restaurants. Menus range from burgers and fries to exotic Caribbean seafood dishes Molly Malone’s on the waterfront (it’s one of our favorites). There are also 2 modern supermarket (The Food Center and Moe's) where you can provision up if you prefer to eat at home. If you don't want to leave the beach, there is also a small refreshment stand between buildings B&C at Sapphire serving hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, soft drinks, beer and tropical drinks (hours: 11AM-PM).

Plan on taking the 20-minute ferry ride out of Red Hook to Cruz Bay. St. John’s main town, for shopping, a tour of the island or snorkeling in Trunk Bay with it’s underwater reef markers which describe the coral. The last time we took the ferry it was $7/person each way. You can also catch a ferry to Tortola or Virgin Gorda in the BVI from Red Hook (bring your passport, you will have to clear customs).

Charlotte Amalie (USVI Capital): The 20-minute taxi ride is well worth the trip to Charlotte Amalie to explore the narrow streets called allies or gades for even more eating and duty free shopping. For additional shopping, try the newly built upscale Yacht Harbor Grande or Havensight where the cruise ships dock. There is also a “vendors market” offering inexpensive t-shirts, handbags, island jewelry and artifacts and more. If shopping’s not your thing, explore the many historical landmark buildings through out Charlotte Amalie.

Other things to do include a trip to Mountain Top, the highest point on the island for one of their “world famous” banana daiquiris and spectacular views of Magen’s Bay and beyond, the Coral World aquarium (about 10 minute from Sapphire), a zip line through the jungle, and the Sky Ride gondola ride to Paradise Point above the cruise ship dock. Paradise Point offers panoramic views of Charlotte Amalie.

Perfect getaway for a close-knit group

We have stayed at various Sapphire properties over the years. These condos at Sapphire are small, but you don't go there for the room, you go there for the location! Exactly what we were looking for, the price was reasonable, and the host was very accommodating.

Paradise found

Location on St Thomas was fantastic. Great views of the ocean & nearby islands. Great sunrise & sunsets. Enjoyed the beach , pool & eating establishments on property. Renting a waverunner from the marina & riding it in the Caribbean is a don't miss opportunity. The proximity to Red Hook & ferry ride to St John & experiences those beaches is also a must do.

Vacay Getaway

The condo was the perfect size. It had everything we needed. The taxis stationed at the resort only charge $6 per person to get to Red Hook which is perfect. The food at the beach bar was very tasty & the coffee from the coffee shop was divine. All in all I enjoyed my stay & look forward to staying here again in the future!

Fantastic Ocean Views!

Our family had a wonderful time staying at this condo at Sapphire Beach. The two balconies were the best offering ocean views and views of surrounding islands. We had everything we needed at the condo and the couple of questions we had the owner responded right away to help us. This was our first time to St. Thomas and we can't wait to come back!

Nice location, as advertised.

Everything was as advertised. Property was in need of some repairs as some reviews touched on, but nothing that wasn't advertised prior by the owner. Nice location and condo was in a nice spot. Plenty of information given by owner prior to help make stay great.

Beautiful beachfront condo

We had the best time staying at John’s two-story condo at Sapphire Beach this! This was our second time staying at Sapphire but this time we brought our friends with us. It felt like two separate condos with it being two floors. Everything was very clean and checking in and out was very easy. We would love to stay there again!

Family Vacation

John was a wonderful host. He supplied me with a ton of info prior to our vacation. On our last day, our flight was delayed and he offered for us to stay as long as we needed. Would love to stay here again if we return to St Thomas in the future. Thanks John!!!

Do yourself a favor and stay here!

We stayed in this condo at Sapphire Beach for a girls week in March. The review is a little late! We could not have asked for a better trip! The condo is spacious (more than enough space for 5 girls!) and in the PERFECT location! The grounds at Sapphire Beach Resort are beautiful, and we loved having a view of the pool and the ocean. Snorkeling on Sapphire Beach is also top notch - we saw sea turtles two days in a row! In the condo, the breakfast bar on the balcony was a perfect place for us to relax and hang out. We absolutely loved everything about this place! We took a boat trip one day, so we also loved that the condo was so close to the marina. John could not have been more helpful to us in planning our trip. He was quick to answer all of our questions, and we loved getting recommendations from him about what else we should do on the island. We are already planning our next trip! We would recommend this condo to anyone who is looking for a great vacation!

Best Views on St. Thomas

My family and I stayed in John's unit over April vacation. We had spent a week in D building at Sapphire 3 years ago and couldn't wait to come back. The views of St. John and the BVI's from this building are amazing. The resort has a wonderful beach and a great pool. Our kids enjoyed themselves all week. They even met up with friends they had met during our previous stay. This is a place you love to come back to. John was great through the rental process. We had a small mix up with the cleaning service but John was available to help out and made sure evrything worked out well. The unit is not renovated, however it is clean and has everything you will need. We loved snorkeling and saw many sea turtles and rays. We ate out a few times but cooked breakfast and most dinners right at the unit. Drinks from the Banana Cabana were great while on the beach. We've been home one day and are already talking about going back next year! We just love this place.

Great Spot for Families

This was my third year visiting Sapphire Beach Resort with my family, wife and two young sons and by far and away this was the best condo we stayed at for a bunch of reasons. First and foremost, the owner John is honest and available at any turn to answer any questions about his condo and the amenities. John is one of the good resort owners who pays extra for the amenities package which entitles you to beach chairs, snorkeling gear and fresh towels every day. Trust me that this is a big extra. Each chair rents for $7 dollars a day which could mean an extra $49 per person per chair just to sit on the beach in comfort. Second is the condo itself. Fantastic views of St. John, a brand new kitchen and beach toys for kids. His condo is in the “D” building which overlooks the pool and the rocky beach. It is free of the cruise ship travelers and is quiet and delightful to sit out on the deck, read a book and listen to the waves. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will hopefully be back next year. When renting through VRBO, I view trust as the overwhelming driver to booking a vacation. Meaning, can I trust this owner to be honest and candid about their property, and can I trust the owner to be reliable with my money and fair about price. John gets an A+ in both of these categories.

Our stay at this villa was nothing short of extraordinary! The location was absolutely perfect, and it truly stole my heart. As a family of five, including a teenager, we found the accommodations to be exceptionally convenient and well-equipped. Everything you could possibly need for a day at the beach was provided: from fun toys and snorkeling gear to ample towels and comfy beach chairs. It was a short, pleasant walk to delightful spots for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and we also had the convenience of nearby grocery stores just a quick drive away. I’ve always adored the islands, but this time, my experience was elevated to a whole new level. If the opportunity arises, we would be thrilled to stay here again! John, our host, was a gem. He was incredibly kind, helpful, and welcoming, always responding swiftly with informative tips. His excellent communication made our stay even more enjoyable. Overall, it was a dream getaway that we’ll cherish!

Truly on the beach

Driving into Sapphire we weren't sure what to expect with so many condo/units on the property. The only times it felt busy was during Happy Hour at the beach bar when a crowd feels fun. The beach was clean and long enough for guests and the public to enjoy without feeling too crowded. The pool was clean and never crowded. The unit was clean and spacious enough for 4 adults to spread out. With 2 young adult children we really appreciated having two balconies and two bathrooms. The kitchen provided most of what we needed to create meals. We would have like to have a full size oven but did manage with the counter top toaster/oven.

Family of 4 for 5 nights. Unit owner John was helpful with my questions. Unit was clean and stocked with some basic soaps, toilet paper, kitchen supplies. Bed was comfortable. Bedroom feels huge with vaulted ceiling. Teens slept on each pull out couch and didn’t complain. Bathrooms have been updated from the pics in the listing. At the time of our stay there was no window covering in the upstairs bathroom, so if you are showering at night there’s a feeling of being on display. I don’t think the angle is right for someone below to really see “a show”, but I’m not 100% sure. If you’re planning to cook, there is no big oven, just a small toaster oven, and no dish washer. There is no washer/dryer in the unit, but there is one at the Marina. I managed to hand wash in the sink and dry on the balcony. As a general warning, most of what you buy will be overpriced. I think that’s just the island way. We got a few groceries at Moe’s in Red Hook to make breakfasts, sandwiches and snacks. Again, overpriced but better than paying for 4 at a restaurant 3 times a day for 5 days. We visited the pool more than the beach. There was a bar/snack bar there at one point, but the structure has definitely seen better days and now only provides shade and shelter from the rare, brief shower that blows through. Towels are available in the office. Beware: twice I tried to return soiled towels and the office was closed early. Overall, good experience.

About the host

Host profile image
My wife Jane and I grew up in the Midwest and first visited the Caribbean on our honeymoon over 30 years ago when we visited 5 islands in the course of a month. We traveled by ferryboat and small inter island airplanes from Granada in the south to St. Croix in the north. Since then we have traveled extensively through out the islands. In 1987 we decided to look for a “foot hold” in the Caribbean. After searching through out the Virgin Islands, both British and US, we decided on St. Thomas because of its combination of hustle and bustle cosmopolitanism and laid back solitude. We also considered the safety of US government ownership.

Why they chose this property

After looking at dozens of properties during several visits to St. Thomas we finally decided on Sapphire Beach Resort and Marina. We chose Sapphire because of it’s beautiful white sand beach with it’s gorgeous “down island” view of St. John and the BVI. We also liked the amenities on the property such as the two level swimming pool, beautifully landscaped grounds, convenient parking and marina offering day cruises. We also took into account the convenience of the dive shop on the property offering every kind of beach toy imaginable, the 2 reefs right off the beach for snorkeling and the short distance to the small town of Red Hook with shopping and a dozen restaurants.

What makes this property unique

Sapphire Beach is tranquil, making it fantastic for just relaxing but it is still convenient to shopping, dining and all kinds of activities.
