Our cozy, tastefully appointed cabin in Todd NC is a serene getaway: kayak the New River, soak up the cool mountain air, explore autumn leaf season, enjoy family time, or rip the ski slopes. New for Fall 2026: updated lighting, surfaces, and decor! New office, game room, and man cave!
Just 20-25 minutes from Boone, and you can enjoy all the high country has to offer: tubing/paddling & fishing the New River, charming towns, App State, cruise the Parkway…or stay in and relax on the porch, by the wood-burning fireplace, or by the fire pit. Up to date furniture, mattresses, and appliances...kitchen/cookware to satisfy most foodies...plus beautiful bedding and modern fresh decor - including custom-designed murals.
We love having our morning coffee on the covered porch and enjoying the mountain view...watching the games and playing some ping-pong, foosball, or cards in the finished garages...grilling burgers and steaks on the front deck at dinnertime...and finishing the day with a movie from our favorite streaming service.
The Space: "Lady Elaine's Cottage" is a beautifully-appointed, recently-updated 3 Bedroom/2 Bath retreat on 1.5 acres in the woods that comfortably sleeps 8 (+1 with air mattress). The stone fireplace is the centerpiece of the vaulted living room, and the wood floors & natural beadboard, and complementary colors give the space a warm, cozy feeling while the wifi gives you all the streaming and connectedness you desire (bring your login credentials!).
Primary suite features a King bed and a large soaking tub; 2nd BR also has a King bed; and 3rd BR sleeps 4 with two bunks. Sheets & towels are provided along with starter paper products, and checkout is hassle-free.
Plenty of parking with space for 4 vehicles.
Two kayaks are also available for guests' use on the nearby New River.
Seasonal notes:
-You’ll enjoy the central air conditioning - which is not universally available in the high country - if it gets humid in the spring and summer,
-The driveway is a bit steep so AWD or 4x4 may be necessary if it's icy or if winter weather turns severe.
Access: Guests have access to the entire house and property, including the finished basement office and garage spaces with ping pong table, foosball, card table, and man cave. The gravel road leading through the neighborhood will take you up the hill to our cottage, where you'll find ample parking in the driveway. Note that the driveway is somewhat steep, but there is a flat parking area to make loading and unloading easy. You can enter the cabin after 3pm on the first day, using the electronic door keypad at the top of the stairs that lead to the back porch. (Key codes & other instructions will be provided a few days before check-in.)
Other notes: With the cabin built on a mountainside, guests will need to walk up some outdoor stairs to get to the main level (although there is an alternate entrance with fewer stairs - message us if you need more details).
There is an interior stairwell, which does not have a door or gate, that leads to the basement/garage areas. Two external security cameras are installed. Some firewood is usually available but you may want to provide more (sources: nearby roadside stand, Plan B convenience store, Dollar General, grocery). There is a twin blow-up bed available in addition to the 8 traditional bed spots, in case it's needed.
Necessities: Linens and towels are provided/set out. For your convenience we provide an initial supply of paper towels, toilet paper, shampoo, and hand soap. You will need to provide additional paper products, dish detergent, laundry detergent, etc. Spices are available for your use.
