About this property
Desert Oasis- North Scottsdale Home - Massive Backyard Gardens/Patios/Pool
We have 4 guest bedrooms, and each bedroom sleeps two (we have recently purchased new top-of-the-line mattresses for all our guest rooms - you won't be disappointed).
This single family home could not be better located for easy access to the best that Scottsdale has to offer. It is situated between two major freeways for quick travel to the entire Phoenix and Scottsdale metropolitan areas, and it is only 2 miles from the Scottsdale Airport/Airpark area where you will find all the upscale and luxury shops and restaurants within almost walking distance. The Quarter and Kierland business and shopping centers are less than 2 miles from this home. The Westin is one mile and walking distance for those attending conferences there. Mayo Hospital and Musical Instrument Museum are each 4 miles and an easy drive.
Almost an acre is populated by many fruit trees and every citrus variety imaginable (pomegranate, apple, fig, lime, lemon, kumquat, orange, tangerine, tangelo, grapefruit), and you are encouraged to sample them all! We are passionate gardeners, so please enjoy and share the produce. See the many pictures of the gardens. Definitely use the far infrared sauna, which is set in a remote and private nook under the sumac tree!
You will find a twin-size bed with regulation mattress as well as a beautiful and comfortable leather couch on one of the patios, and if you would like (during nice weather...or when there is an awesome thunderstorm!), you can even sleep out on the patio . At least choose to enjoy your meals on the patio at one of our rustic hand carved wooden tables. It is delightful. Bring a book to enjoy in the peace and quiet of the patio and gardens and listen to the birds sing. Enjoy the silence. It is magical.
Three of the four bedrooms have a television as well as the living room and the patio. Direct TV with its many channels is installed on all five TV's.
Entry into the home and all 4 bedrooms is without steps. There is one step down into the living room from the dining room and one step from the family room into the kitchen; however, it is possible to stay in this home without navigating any of the steps, so a wheelchair is easily managed.
The pool is huge and deep! At 35,000 gallons, it is 2-3 times larger than the customary home in-ground pool. Because of its size, it is possible to swim "laps" around the circumference without ever touching the sides.
Guest access Please enjoy all we have to offer - our fresh produce when in season, our two seat far infrared sauna, our pool, our patios. The entire home and outside space will be offered to the guests. The only restricted area is the piano. We do not allow people to play the piano.
Other things to note: This is a home, not a hotel, so please respect the antiques and other furnishings.
Lush garden spaces create a sophisticated "urban farm" feel, and the grounds are truly spectacular. Dogs, pets, and children are permitted to allow for a whole-family experience. Please note that there is a swimming pool and that you are responsible to carefully supervise your children. The pool is gated from the outside world but not from the home. There are locks on all doors leading to the patios and backyard. Please use them to control access from young children.
Smoking is allowed outside on our three patios only and never inside the house.
We have recently begun allowing events, such as small and respectful family gatherings and dinners, birthday parties, and intimate gatherings of all kinds, as long as you clear it with us ahead of time. We understand that it is an amazing experience to share the romantic ambiance on the patios at night, but please be subdued and responsible and do not exceed the number of guests nor the type of event that we both agreed upon at the time of booking. Parties will be shut down and guests asked to leave without reimbursement for remaining days if your event is not as we agreed upon and authorized at the booking step.
Outdoor security cameras are located in the pool and patio area as well as at the front and back doors. This is for the protection of both guests and hosts.
Please be aware that our pool maintenance person comes every Thursday between 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. He will have access to the pool from the side gate of the house and leave after he is done. No need for our guests to do anything. Please never take the pool cleaning equipment out of the pool, as it will easily be damaged.
Occasionally, you may encounter our yard maintenance man. It takes a lot of time and effort to maintain this yard, so please be understanding if he is working in the back. He is very non-obtrusive and quiet, and you probably won't even know he is there.
**Please read through our entire listing before you book with us to make sure we will be a good fit.

The pool was awesome, lots of pedals in the pool, but I wouldn’t get rid of the flowering trees, they were beautiful. The backyard was gorgeous. Only thing I’d change is moving the cactus near the pool entry. Two of us got “stuck” getting out of the pool. The gardens were beautiful and we loved all the fruit trees. The inside was nice, not a lot of seating for 8 guests in the living room. The kitchen was great, plenty of dishes etc. Nice to have a lot of pool towels too. The seating out on the patio was awesome, it was great for meals all together.
This property was a great place to stay with family. The property was clean had all the amenities needed. The owner was very responsive about questions I had. We will definitely be staying here again.
We were an adult family 5 of visiting family in the Phoenix area. The pool and outdoor area was perfect for everyone to gather and share meals. The property with all its fruit trees and flowers were beautiful!
We really enjoyed our stay at this house. It was in a great location and a beautiful property. The backyard and patio is phenomenal.

Bill, you guys were the best guests! We really appreciated your stay with us. Thank you for being so considerate and respectful of our property. David and Susan
I have stayed at many VRBO properties but this rates up there as one of the best. The hosts were extremely helpful, fast to respond, and the property itself was exactly as described and portrayed in the pictures.
The perfect house to host my parents in Arizona! It had everything we needed to cook meals, plenty of room for us to spread out, and I can't say enough about the backyard. The pool is incredible, the sauna is fun, but my dog loved roaming and exploring the fruit trees for hours. I will definitely stay again!!!
Plenty of space for our group of 8. The outdoor area was pretty special and very relaxing. The fruit trees, outdoor tvs, and sauna were a bonus. Would definitely stay again!
As advertised, also great neighborhood for going for walks, ideally located,

Thanks for being great guests, Gary! David and I are very pleased that you and your extended family (including your fur babies) enjoyed our home during the Thanksgiving weekend. There really is no better setting than our patio for family bonding, and it's perfect for groups such as yours to share meals and conversation there. We hope to host you again in the future. David and Susan
The yard area in back makes this place an utter sanctuary, especially after a hard day at work. I've never seen anything like it and will definitely rent this place EVERY time I come down to Scottsdale to work or play!!
The hosts were spectacular and pictures did not do property justice!! We had our wedding ceremony and the preparation from the hosts were above reproach. We will stay here again when family comes in!

Richard, this review is so much appreciated. Thank you! We had so much fun getting into the wedding mood during the preparation phase on our end, and we do look forward to hosting you and your wife again! Congratulations!!! David and Susan
Very quiet neighborhood. Had everything to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner for our family of 6. Our granddaughter attend GCU. They had to go back and forth so was an easy drive.
I had to go to Phoenix for surgery, so the Desert Oasis was truly that for my family. From the fruit trees in the back yard, the beautiful inside and how wonderful the hosts are; everything was perfect for my healing journey. Anytime I needed anything, they were patient and so wonderful with us. A zero gravity chair and an instant pot were no problem! Great people! Great experience!
We all had space to have wonderful bonding time together and with our local relatives in your beautiful relaxing home. Adults and kids can spread out and converse everywhere. Comfortable beds, plenty of everything in the kitchen needed for cooking special memorable meals. Many many thanks for our memories created.
We made juice from the citrus trees, We discovered new plants and even found 3 hummingbird nests. Standing by the pool in the evening smelling the beautiful aroma of the citrus blossoms .The master bed was so comfortable and the sheets were so soft. The kitchen is over the top well equipped, and there are more than enough towels , and bedding. Owners were super responsive when we had questions. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
My family and I decided to rent a property in Phoenix because I was going to be the best man for my best friends wedding, we picked this house because it looked very nice, and it did not disappoint the house was very clean and had plenty of interesting things to see if you're a reader plenty of books, however the back yard is the highlight in my opinion it is absolutely beautiful to sit out back and have dinner with family there are gorgeous fruit trees and a well kept pool and even a sauna (we didn't use the sauna but it looked very nice) either way it was a wonderful stay and plenty of space for the family
My husband and some friends of ours enjoyed our stay at this desert oasis. The home is so quirky and fun! We wished we were staying longer so we could read a few of the many interesting books that were displayed so wonderfully. Cool antique furniture inside and out, beautifully appointed outside space…including a pool, ( too cool to swim in March) potted succulents, cacti, flowers and a magical citrus orchard with fruit, ripe for the picking!
Original 1960's home near Kierland Commons. Completely stocked and furnished. Bathroom space and hot water was not sufficient for large group. Patio, pool and garden was super cool. Plants and shrubs need to be trimmed and pruned to be spectaclar.
Charming Rustic Retreat with a Garden Paradise Backyard
We had a wonderful stay at this cozy, rustic-style home that felt like a true escape. The house itself has a warm, older charm with all the modern conveniences—everything we needed was thoughtfully provided, from kitchen essentials to a great grill for outdoor meals. But the real highlight was the backyard: an absolutely immaculate, lush oasis bursting with flowers, palms, and vibrant greenery. It felt like stepping into a private botanical garden. Perfect for relaxing mornings with coffee or quiet evenings under the stars. The pool was clean and well maintained also. We enjoyed lounging and playing volleyball in it. The home owners were extremely communicative and provided all check-in/check-out instructions well in advance. Couldn't have been happier with our stay here! A truly peaceful and memorable getaway!

About the host
Hosted by David and Susan Speak
We are passionate about travel and seeing the world. One of our best memories is the time we slept in a box in the jungle of Guatemala. It wasn't supposed to work out that way, but it did, and being waked up in the middle of the night by the howler monkeys took the experience right over the top. When we're not traveling to exciting and wonderful destinations, we have called Scottsdale, Arizona our home until recently. During the 2020 pandemic quarantine, we needed a new hobby to occupy our time, so we began building a home on the beach in Puerto Penasco, Mexico and moved there while simultaneously transforming our Scottsdale house into what it is now, a dedicated Airbnb whole house rental. We have left our precious antiques and artifacts for our guests to enjoy - please be careful with them! - while we start our new life south of the border. Guests in our home often remark that they feel like they are in a beautiful resort, and we have to agree that the ambiance here is perfect for casual living. Susan gardens extensively, and we enthusiastically share our produce with our friends and guests. Please feel free to walk into our back yard and pull off apples, figs, pomegranates, as well as every citrus imaginable from our 27 citrus trees (lemons, limes, grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, tangelos, kumquats). David's passion is restoring cars. Susan is a musician (pianist) and private investigator.
We have been hosts on another popular short-term rental site since 2015 and are very experienced hosts, the difference being that prior to the pandemic, we lived with our guests in our home and only rented out extra bedrooms. Now we turn our entire home over to you and want very much for you to enjoy it!
Why they chose this property
This property is very, very unique and eclectic. Instead of staying in a "been here, done this, seen this before" property, with us you will be thrown into surroundings unlike any you will find elsewhere in the desert southwest. Our guests have remarked that they feel like they just stepped into the Central American rain forest. From the street, you cannot imagine what you will find after you open the door and enter our magic. It took us many years to create this, and now we want to share it with you!
What makes this property unique
Our property is serene, tranquil, and soothing. There is a sense of being bathed in reassurance, safety and "being home". You will sleep very well in our home. A great place to relax.
