Great Home and Location but a few issues
First, this is a beautiful home that is well maintained (better than most). Before arrival, a window had broken and Mgmt made us aware, which was fine. The home has a nice fenced in yard which was great for our dog. It is dog friendly with gates at porch entrances so he could roam the porch with us. Kitchen was well stocked with cooking pans, etc. After arrival we realized the washing machine had out of order note - we would have preferred to know that before arrival. As people were settling in to rooms, we had one main floor room that had a considerable amount of rodent droppings on the nightstand and floor by the bed. Mgmt promptly sent someone out to clean and she indicated it was probably chipmunk droppings. By the time we left, there were more droppings so it might be in residence. Aside from losing a room b/c nobody wanted to encounter a rodent in bed, the biggest issue was a breaker outage that Mgmt didn't fix before we left. We lost internet, TV, and stairwell light. We were able to rig extensions to the router so internet was up, but main TV was out most of our stay. I fell a few steps in the dark stairwell without the light. It seems a breaker would be an easy fix. Otherwise, the home is great and we would stay again. Breaker definitely needs fixing. Turn around space for SUV size cars is tight, but wasn't a problem. Home would be perfect but for the droppings and the breaker issue.

Just Right
Bear Necessities was an excellent getaway in beautiful Banner Elk. This was our second time staying and we will definitely be back. We loved having the fenced in yard for our dog, and communication with management was helpful & easy. Thank you!

All-around good
Selecting a vacation rental balances a lot of factors and priorities and overall we made a good choice. The pros: kids loved the well-maintained hot tub, bedrooms were large enough, had efficient bathrooms, and there was plenty of family space. The cons: there was no storage space for food in the kitchen, we had a minor pest problem, there was no mountain view, and renters need to be careful with the driveway. We were most disappointed with the lack of view. The listing indicated "mountain view" but the density of tree cover in the summer blocked it. It was cozy for sure, but we expected to see mountains and we did not. Visitors in winter or early spring may have a different experience. Regarding the pest problem, I communicated the issue with the rental company only after departure. We did not notify them during our stay, and I'm confident it could have been managed if we had requested help. The driveway is VERY steep and curvy. My husband’s front wheel drive truck had a lot of difficulty and almost didn’t make it, though my SUV (all wheel drive) did better. I would not try to negotiate this driveway in winter.

Mountain Getaway
We liked that the property had plenty of bedrooms and baths for the seven of us. The hot tub and pool table were enjoyable. We were disappointed that the cabin shows a lot of wear and tear. Also, the ice maker did not work and the screen out the door to the deck kept falling off. The office person did offer to send a technician, but we did not want to deal with that during our stay. Overall our time there was enjoyable although the pics were deceiving which made it look better online than in person.
