My sister came to the Finger Lakes for 5 days and Blue Oars was my first choice for accommodations. Location is quiet and the cottage fully stocked with kitchen and general home necessities. Very comfortable and exceptionally clean.
Beautiful & serene location, just the right setting to take in nature and relax. The cottage was lovely, it felt like home away from home. It was centrally located, we drove out to Watkins Glen,Geneva, and all around Seneca Lake. Already thinking about our next stay at the cottage.
The Blue Oars cottage was great, very clean and modern, great location on Seneca Lake with a nice covered front porch that came in handy with the rain. Inside was very comfortable, bottle of wine was appreciated as was the well stocked coffee pod selection. Would definitely go back if in the area again!
Lovely place. Great front porch overlooking the lake. Great dock. House is tastefully decorated, well stocked, well organized and very comfortable. Quiet area. We loved it!
This property was perfect for our stay in the Finger Lakes. The house was very clean and had everything that we needed for our stay. The absolute best part is the location and the view of the lake. We spent almost all of our time on the deck or out on the dock fishing or kayaking. Our kids said that this was the best vacation ever and we couldn't agree more!
We had such a relaxing time at Blue Oars. Wandering out to the end of the pristine dock with a cup of coffee and a book in the morning, enjoying a campfire on a chilly evening, kayaking on the quiet lake, playing games after a meal cooked in the well stocked kitchen…need I say more?! Thank you Dan.
Amazing lakeside stay in quiet comfortable cottage
We had a fantastic stay! Everything we possibly could have needed was provided, from dishes to coffee to extra towels, and th view is incredible. We had a little campfire by the lake our first night, cooked all of our meals in th well-appointed kitchen, and spent the next day visiting wineries that Dan suggested. Thanks so much and we hope to stay again!
The house was SO accommodating, they have everything to make your stay comfortable and complete! Everything was so clean and well thought out, this is our second time here. Owner is very thorough and helpful. We will be coming back again!
Chefs kiss! Perfect location, most adorable home, host thought of everything and home had all the special touches! So much more space inside than we thought we would have. Loved that the fire pit was directly across the street. Loved the big front porch to relax on. The beds were all comfortable, the bathroom was spotless and the bottle of wine left for us was delicious. Fantastic weekend and cannot wait to return! Host was quick to respond and guest handbook was so thorough! Definitely check out the restaurant at plum point lodge down the street (amazing!!) and check out Scout winery (donuts to taste with your wine!!) and Once for a nice tasting room.
We chose this location for our first vacation on Seneca Lake & it was perfect! The host provided a long list of things to do in the area which we used extensively. Waterloo Outlets is nearby which was also a nice stop. Food & wine amazing. Watkins Glen boat tour was fabulous. Would highly recommended this stay to others! Thanks Dan & team!
Our family of 5 had a wonderful long weekend! We swam, used the house kayaks (brought our own life vests but different sizes were available at the house to use), and rented a paddle board for a day! Mornings were spent exploring and hiking in the area and afternoons into the evening on the water. We appreciated the kitchen amenities and gas grill for preparing dinners. Overall a fun and relaxing weekend!
I needed to get away from work and the busy-ness of schedules and requirements. This property on Seneca Lake was the perfect spot. The lake view can't be beat. Family members stopped by and visited and a couple of my grandchildren stayed over night while I was there. And if I had wanted to go out for local activities, events, restaurants and shopping etc - everything is very close by within a 30 minute drive.
The place was well-maintained, comfortable, and clean. Plenty of fluffy towels and extra blankets were available. My husband requests that the range hood vent to the outside because it is a gas stove. We opened the windows while cooking instead. Otherwise all was great!

Hi Katherine,
I'm glad you had a great time! As for the microwave above the gas range with the hood, it does vent to the outside through the wall. The hood fan controls are on the microwave control panel. However, I will still follow-up and verify this weekend that the fan works and vents properly. Thanks for the feedback and hope to see you next year!
Thanks,
Dan
Blue Oars is in a perfect peaceful location to explore the Finger Lakes wineries, museums’, waterfalls and hikes in the surrounding areas. Morning coffee and afternoon glasses of wine were enjoyed on the porch overlooking Seneca Lake. The home is nicely decorated, clean and well stocked for coffee (coffee, creamer and sugar supplies) and cooking or grilling should you choose too. Dan is available for questions and responds quickly. The welcome letter covers many suggestions and distances for exploring the region. You will love staying here and we highly recommend you do!
The owner clearly puts a lot of effort into maintaining this property. Everything is clean and modern, with a great deal of attention paid to every little detail. Easily one of the nicest 2 bedroom properties you will find in the area. We felt completely comfortable and had a wonderful stay.
The location is ideal, on a quiet dead-end lane with almost no traffic. Nice level lot with shade, fire pit, picnic table, and Adirondack chairs by the lake and dock. The front porch was great for enjoying a relaxing meal overlooking the lake. Penn Yan is only 10 minutes away with anything you might need, and Geneva and Watkins Glen are also an easy drive away. Plenty of fun activities in the immediate area, or just chill out in the lake or on the dock. We hope to be back soon!
A great time was had at the Blue Oars Cottage for our Girls' Weekend Getaway. The beautiful cottage had lots of extras included, in fact everything that you may think you need during your stay! The accommodations were impeccable. Sitting on the front porch was an idyllic place for morning coffee. The view of the lake and hearing the sound of the waves was so calming and relaxing. The location of the property was minutes away from town. There are so many quaint shops and restaurants to explore. We encourage Nickel's Pit BBQ and try out Windmill Farm Craft Market. Don't forget the wineries. Traveling from Charlotte, NC was worth the road trip. I will definitely be returning in the future. A special Thank you, Dan for being such a great host!
Best,

Gemma,
We are so happy that your birthday weekend was very enjoyable. The list of alternative entertainment ideas grows daily. (As if being at the lake isn't enjoyable enough!) We hope to host you again in the future!

This is our new favorite cottage at Seneca Lake. We've stayed at 3 other cottages on the west side of the lake in years past, and Blue Oars is the winner hands down. It is impeccably clean, and the furniture is new. The cottage features upscale appliances, including a full-size washer and dryer, and the kitchen is thoughtfully and generously stocked with utensils and cookware. Linens are plentiful, and the beds are comfortable. The front porch is a relaxing extension of the living room overlooking the lake. The setting is quiet (no train running by, no naval facility next door), and the friendly neighbors made us feel like family. It's all the little touches --- some as simple but thoughtful as the pumpkin and potted mums out front -- that make this is a special cottage. Our thanks to everyone who make this a comfortable, relaxing getaway. We can't wait to go back.
Dan was awesome right from the start. The house was absolutely spotless; the sheets and blankets smelled freshly washed. Dan had coffee there, sugar, spices, and little creamers in the frig. He thought of everything! We’ll be back! Beautiful lakefront property.
We had a very pleasant time at Blue Oars, which had been recently renovated (all new appliances were a nice change from other rentals!), and was clean and easy to live in. Really enjoyed watching the lake and changing weather from our living room, porch and the dock.
We had a wonderful week at Blue Oars! The house was exceptionally clean and the recent renovations were beautiful. The attention to detail in every room of this house is spectacular. Every amenity you could possibly think of was here at the house; in hindsight we realize all we really needed to pack was clothes and food! From beach towels to cooking spray to extra pillows and blankets, the house was equipped with everything we might need during our stay. We have stayed at a lot of rental properties and know it is not always like this, so we were duly impressed and grateful.
The house is in an excellent location mere steps from the water, and there was ample room for my family to launch kayaks (which we rented from nearby Reagan's), our paddleboard, fish (caught tons of small mouth bass), swim, and relax. Watching the sunrise over the eastern side of the lake was a highlight. To say it was peaceful is an understatement. We all enjoyed some much-needed R&R while in Himrod.
We took brief trips to Geneva for lunch (recommend Fry Bird!), Watkins Glen for dinner (Kookalarocs), and visits to wineries (Barnstormer on Tues evenings is a great family-friendly experience, and Lakewood's wines are all exceptional). The Showboat right down the street is great for quick and tasty bites, and it's right on the water.
Dan was very responsive prior to our trip, and made himself available while we were there. He had some great recommendations for places to eat and things to do while on our trip. He was very easy to work with.
We highly recommend this property to anyone looking for some peaceful down time on the water. We will be back!
We had a wonderful time here on the western shore of Seneca Lake! This location is very quiet and serene. If you're looking to relax, read a book, enjoy the waves of Seneca Lake then this is your spot! That's not even to mention the 100+ wineries in this area to explore. There is definitely something for everyone! The property manager was very responsive and very helpful with suggested spots in the area. The property itself is very clean and appliances are all newly updated. You can tell much thought and care has gone into planning for their guests. At the end of our 4 day stay we were wishing we had a few more days; we would definitely return for another stay without hesitation!
