We were very happy with our stay at the Berkshire Mountain Cottage. It's charming and comfortable, quiet and tidy, and located in a perfect spot to enjoy all that the Berkshires have to offer. The kitchenette is well appointed and we enjoyed cooking and eating some meals in. Bruce and Shira were very welcoming and communication was easy. By the end of our week there, it felt like a home away from home, and we'd definitely return again.

Thank you, Susan for your review.
Susan and her husband were wonderful guests. We enjoyed meeting them. They left the cottage in a perfect shape. We would love to host them again anytime.
The mountain cottage is located in a good location to Great Barrington, not a long drive. The hosts are super nice and very accommodating. The cottage is cute, we loved the porch. The surrounding grounds are peaceful and very quiet. We would book another stay!
The Cottage is exactly as described, comfortable for 2 people, artfully decorated, delightful.
The hosts are warm and welcoming, attentive, but not intrusive. The location is quiet and lovely. A welcoming bottle of wine set the tone for the stay. We plan to return. 5+ stars!

The cottage was perfect for two people. It was very clean and with many windows surrounded by trees. The efficiency kitchen is great for breakfast and other simple meals. The grounds are spacious and lovely. The cottage is the original part of the house and has a large screened in porch....nice for relaxing and reading.

Lovely- charming- comfortable and friendly
This is a wonderful find. Shira is a wonderful host and a fine artist as evidenced by her works in the cottage. My morning runs were beautiful and I loved enjoying a cup of tea on the porch. The value of this stay is beyond the cost.

We loved Julianne, husband and guest, They were the perfect guests. We had so much to talk about and became instant friends. The cottage was left clean and organized.
Julianne promised to come back next year, or I just have to go visit her in Colorado!
It would be impossible to miss the care that has gone into every aspect of this cottage. The home and grounds are beautiful. The quiet may not strike you right away, but over time, you notice how relaxing it is not to hear lots of traffic, etc. A great place to stay if you are looking for some quiet time in a beautiful location.

Artistic nest in deep countryside
This cottage (roomier than the pics suggest) had lovely pieces in its decor and very hospitable, easy to get along with owners. The best was sleeping with all the screened windows open, immersed in the quiet of the hilly country surrounding - like the best part of camping crossed with luxurious comfort.
Over Thanksgiving 2024, my wife and I had the privilege of staying at the Cottage in the Berkshires, and it was exactly as advertised. The kitchenette was just right for preparing breakfast, lunch, or enjoying a takeout dinner. The living areas were comfortable, though not oversized—perfect for my wife and me. The cottage was easy to find and conveniently located near amenities in Great Barrington.I cannot say enough about our hosts. On our checkout day, there was about an inch of snow, and the host kindly cleared the steps and put down sand to ensure safe footing as we, sadly, packed up to leave. If you are looking for a compact and cozy base to explore western Massachusetts, we wholeheartedly recommend the Cottage.
I stayed at the cottage for 4 nights/5 days. As a woman traveling with her dog, I was hoping for a peaceful place where I could slow down and unwind in a country-like setting to read and write. This cottage perfectly fit the bill. The kitchen work area was relatively small, but it had everything I needed to fix simple meals: a toaster oven, microwave, electric teapot, auto-drip coffeemaker, and small refrigerator. The kitchen area opened up to a living room with good seating and good lighting. The bedroom had a full, well-organized closet, and the three windows offered plenty of light and fresh air. The bed was very clean and comfortable; I slept soundly in the moonlight that filled the room! The bathroom included plenty of thick, fluffy towels. My favorite area was the enclosed porch where I could cozy up with a good book on the futon, or take my meals on the porch's table. My overall impression of the cottage was that everything included was of excellent quality, from the couch pillows to the stoneware dishes and glassware. I would be amiss if I didn't mention the beauty of the property grounds. I loved walking the grounds in the evening. The property owners were very hospitable, each of them stopping by once to see if I needed anything, and whenever I texted them, they responded promptly. They offered me suggestions on where I could visit, buy food or dine out; plenty of options to choose from, only a few minutes drive from the cottage. I hope to return there soon!

Many thanks to Joy and her dog Yogi, who stayed with us this past week. Joy was a model Renter and left the cottage spotless.Yogi was a joy to meet.
We enjoyed meeting Joy and chat with her and hope to see them back soon.
it is just a cottage, very clean and comfortable. kitchen was a bit inadequate for us as it has no stove and not much counter space and a small sink. Outside property was very spacious and beautiful.
We thoroughly enjoyed our mid-August 2021 six-night stay at Bruce and Shira’s Berkshire Cottage.
The cottage is furnished as described and illustrated – cozy and comfortable; the grounds are beautiful, well maintained. Everything was clean, functional, and accessible. We were surprised and delighted to find a bottle of red and a fresh bag of pita chips upon arrival.
We took advantage of the outdoor grill (provided with a full tank of propane!) which worked well to overcome the mid-summer rains. You can’t fight mother nature but the grill did the job. The robust wi-fi connection and the presence of a land-line (which we didn’t need) ensured we could connect with our local family when needed.
Check-in was seamless thanks to instructions received a few days before we left home. We appreciated receiving these well in advance, as we arrived after sunset at the end of a 12 hour travel day.
Shira checked-in with us a few days after arrival, just to see if we needed anything (we didn’t!). The check-out process was efficient and easy, though we were a bit sad that it was time to leave!
From start to finish, Shira and Bruce were very prompt and transparent in response to our questions, all of which helped simplify our trip planning. They are model hosts, their dog is delightful, and the cottage was perfect for our stay.
My family had a wonderful and peaceful stay at the cottage. We enjoyed dinners and ice cream in town, the proximity to many beautiful lakes, hikes, and other recreational activities. A lovely getaway in the Berkshires!
The property is rural but nearby Great Barrington. The cottage is well equipped, cozy and very comfortable. Shira is very warm, friendly and helpful with suggestions for dining and shopping. We recommend staying here to enjoy the Berkshires a d the Hudson River valley.
Shira and Bruce’s cottage was just ideal for our five-day Berkshires getaway. The location is great—in a quiet rural neighborhood, the cottage has beautifully tended gardens and is very close to an excellent variety of hikes, swimming holes, and the towns of the Southern Berkshires. The cottage itself is attached and perfectly private. Everything is very tidy and clean; we visited during the pandemic and had absolute confidence in our hosts’ booking and cleaning practices. The main bed and bedding were very comfortable and high quality; the kitchenette amply supplied-including a welcoming bottle of Rioja! The deep and eclectic record collection and turntable were an added bonus.
Bruce and Shira themselves are friendly, easy-going and accessible, quick to extend great advice about hidden-gem cafes, hikes, and area markets. All in all, we had high expectations for this trip, and they were exceeded in every way. We’d absolutely return.

Marshall and his companion were dream guests, Super friendly, great communicators , they left the cottage very tidy , Their dog was easy going and followed the doggie house rules as well . We highly recommend Marshall to Other property owners , and we hope to see them again in the near future !
My dog and I spent a lovely 3 months over the winter at Bruce and Shira’s - the cottage was wonderful, perfect for one or two people, and conveniently located about 10 minutes from town. There is a great “entertainment center” too, with internet tv, Bluetooth speakers, a record player and tons of records, not to mention a great collection of books and movies. Additionally, Covid hit right in the middle of my stay, and the owners were great about it - I felt very safe and well taken care of the entire time! Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to recharge and get away!
The cottage was delightful, situated in a bucolic green environment. In an exquisitely calm and beautifully natural setting, the cottage provided us a wonderful antidote to the hustle and bustle of Manhattan and a week-situated gateway to explore the Berkshires.
Overall fine but kitchen facilities were minimal and disappointing. Honestly though a more careful reading of property description would have made situation clear.... no stove, mini fridge, no dish washer.

The Cottage offers a Kitchenette setting. It is clearly described and noted. There are also multiple pictures of the kitchen’s amenities in the VRBO listing.
The Kitchenette is stocked with basic items, courtesy of your hosts. The Cottage is perfectly suitable for Breakfast, Lunch and other light meals.
In addition, we gladly recommend the tastes of the Berkshires: our favorite restaurants, wonderful prepared take out food establishments (check out Guido’s in GB!!!) the Farmers Market and more.
Over the last 10 years we have hosted dozens of vacationing guests who appreciated and enjoyed the beauty, and uniqueness of our Cottage. We are sorry we did not meet Rochelle's expectations.
My husband and I stayed here over the Memorial 2019 weekend. **For anyone nervous about having the owners on property... don't be..."The house is a little off the beaten path, but is pretty centrally located for being tucked back. The area is quiet and nice. The cottage is on the smaller side, but it has big heart and function. The owners have everything you need and more. Bathroom and kitchen were fully stocked. They left us breakfast for our first morning which actually lasted us the whole trip. The cottage was sparkling clean. There were plenty of fans/ac to keep cool and we had access to adjust the heat if cold. The chairs outside were nice to sit and take in the nature around us. Only things I might add would be lawn games or a fire pit for the cottage guests... BUT honestly, it was 110% the best place we have ever stayed. We will def be returning... not only or the amazing place, but the owners were above and beyond nice and accommodating. I hope all of our stays through HOMEAWAY have the same level of customer service... Oh, I heard their dog, but I didn't get to meet him :( Next time! CHECK OUT: SoCo Creamery (ice cream is amazing), Prairie Whale, Siam Square Thai, & The Well. Google wineries and breweries in the area: Les Trios Emme,, Hilltop Orchard/Furnace Brook Winery, Big Elm Brew, and Great Falls Brew to name some of our favorites.

Delightful retreat in the Berkshires
Our visit to the Berkshires was made all the more enjoyable by staying at Welcome Cottage. The cottage is charming, comfortable and well appointed. Shira and Bruce are gracious hosts who went out of their way to make us comfortable (and both pets Remy and McLovin' made sure to welcome us too!). The cottage was a comfy home away from home with everything we needed to enjoy our stay.

A wonderful retreat
Very comfortable. Close to town but far enough away. Shira is a lovely host. Only potential problem was lack of cell service and spotty Internet but there was a land line and being unplugged for a couple of days was therapeutic. If necessary, there were places to connect in town. Not a big issue for us and it sounds like the town is addressing it.

Paradise setting, charming cottage
The hosts are very gracious and provided everything we needed and special touches for delight. The property is a gorgeous, spacious, tiered, beautifully landscaped yard entirely surrounded by a border of trees-- very private. That is, acknowledging that the cottage is attached to the hosts' home. The cottage is tastefully decorated and full of wonderful art. Note that you won't want to do major cooking in the kitchen -- the fridge is under the counter, the stovetop is a two-burner hot plate, and the oven is a toaster oven. There's a microwave and coffee pot and everything provided works fine. The location is about 5 miles West of Great Barrington, very close to the NY border. We were so glad that our senior dog was welcome too.

About the host
Hosted by Bruce
We found the Berkshires by chance as neither of us was really familiar with the area. Now that we've had the property for nearly 25 years, we have become a part of Berkshire's life and we share that information with all our guests.
Why they chose this property
We chose this cottage in the Berkshires because of its proximity to both leisure and cultural activities. Additionally, we loved the light and landscape that can be viewed from the cottage at different times of day.
What makes this property unique
When we are at the cottage, we enjoy sitting on the deck and reading or sunning. Locally, there are hikes and bike routes, both mountain and road, that we take advantage of. We explore new areas of the Berkshires for future hikes. We love going to downtown Great Barrington and parking ourselves with our dog, at an outdoor cafe. We spend time working in our garden and bird watching.
