Pet Policy:
Here at Open Hearth Inn we welcome your four-legged family member. However, we ask you to help us with the following pet rules while staying with us.
1. Please don`t leave your pet in the rooms unattended.
Why? Because they miss you and from our experience of being professional hosts since the 90`s, when they are lonely they howl or bark causing others to lose the quiet enjoyment on the property. Lonely pets also use the bed or other furniture to snuggle on while you are away. This is super tough for our housekeepers to remedy because blankets or comforters need to be washed or replaced, also furnishings can take hours to remove hair from so we can present a clean space for the next guest.
Maine is a very pet friendly place and since you brought them on vacation we hope you keep them with you so they can enjoy `Vacation Land` as much as humans do.
2. Please pick up all the poop/excrement they may have.
3. Please have your pup on a leash when enjoying the common areas.
4. Please try to refrain your dog from barking.
We have dog treats, extra poo bags and a water bowl in the common room.
*There will be an additional cleaning fee charged if your pet makes a mess of the room or the bedding. We hope that you and your four-legged family member have a great stay here at Open Hearth Inn.
No other notes. Feel free to ask any questions. :)

My kids and I absolutely loved our stay. Everything was so nice and comfortable. My only teeny tiny complaint was that the hot tub was a little yucky in daylight, with a ring around the top and a bit of hair in the foam. My kids did not care though!! All around, lovely stay.
Favorite parts were Thornton, free laundry, access to full kitchen and the rooms. I wish it was ground floor as I was on crutches but that meant it was quiet without anyone above us.
Terrific stay with friendly and helpful staff. Location was excellent to enjoy the national park and Bar Harbor.
Communication about arrival and departure.
Highly recommend.

Overall the property is very nice. We took a vantage of the kitchen and the outdoor grill and made several meals. My children enjoyed the lawn games and the fire pit.

Place was pretty clean and accurate to the description online. We did find some bugs in the provided blankets.
Good, clean property for 2. Could do up to 4 as there are two beds. Close to Bar Harbor and Acadia Nat'l Park.
We ran into a major traffic jam going back to the property from Bar Harbor. It was people heading home at the end of a holiday weekend. Not the property's fault, just wanted to inform.

This unit could use some love
I can’t speak to the cottages. We stayed one of the 4 units above a garage building. It’s old and we knew that. But it could use some love. There seems to be a shortage of electricity. The lights were constantly going dim and our A/C until slowed every time an A/C unit (I presume) kicked off and on in the building. Beds were fine. Towels were a bit thin, but I grabbed some better ones from the laundry area in the lodge (basically a large house). You do have open access to the lodge which has kitchen, laundry, sitting areas, etc. I met one staff member and she was super nice. Biggest complaint was we got some outdated email saying “come into the lodge and find your key”. Well we got in at 9:45 and no key, no one around, and phone number in the email was disconnected. So we're freaking out at this point. Turns out we were supposed to be given a door code through VRBO which never came. Luckily the door was unlocked when we checked it. Bottom line, it was a value price and a value experience.
The property was as described and in close proximity to both Acadia and Bar Harbor. I didn't know anything about the area and chose this property based on reviews. I was not disappointed.
