About this property
Panoramic sea view, calm area, large garden, kids and dogs welcome!
Villa Lona lies in a quiet solitary position and offers a splendid view at the Ionean Sea only 3 km away. The light-flooded, modern house was built in 2011 and is well suited for all seasons. There are 3 separate bedrooms, all on ground level. From the paved terrace around the house, offering plenty of shadowy space for eating and relaxing, a stair case leads up to the big roof top terrace, from where you have an amazing 180 degree view over the whole area.. The Villa is equipped with all amenities, including SAT-TV and free WiFi. In summer the air condition cools down the villa pleasantly, in winter the cosy and powerful pellet stove gets the heat up. The huge garden with over 30 olive trees, palm trees, young fruit trees, cactuses and roses is completely fenced and there are 2 outdoor showers with hot and cold water. A nature reserve with typical mediterranean macchhia starts directly behind the house. you can enjoy peace and serenity even in high season.

About the host
Hosted by Bente Boekhoff
Bente and Thomas, a Norwegian actress and a German carpenter, and our dogs Laika from Hungary and Nomi from Portugal went to Puglia in 2011 for the first time and fell instantly “in love”. We had always dreamt of having a house “in the south”, and November 2016 the dream came real. Now, we want to share this dream with you!
Why they chose this property
Villa Lona offers you an incredible view of the sea and the puglian landscape! The perfect place to relax. A calm place, and still close to everything you need .
The beaches of the Ionian Sea aren only 3 km away. The sand here is white and fine, the beach is gently sloping. The warm, crystal clear turquois water is a pleasure for bathing . Close to the villa there are mainly natural coastal sand dunes. Even during high season you can still find a spot of your own and even bring your dog .
Villa Lona is surrounded by small places and towns, offering all sorts of shopping and leisure activities, cafés, bars and restaurants ; San Pietro in Bevagna (3 km), the charming, all year-round inhabited town Maruggio (6 km), the fishing village Torre Colimena (10 km), Campomarino with its marina (10 km), and of course the bigger, historical and at the same time modern town of Manduria (10 km), famous for its red wine Primitivo.

What makes this property unique
The landscape of Salento is characterized by vine, olive trees and cactuses, and the unique trulli, traditional Apulian round dry stone huts with conical roofs. Here you will find many wine yards, olive oil producers and small markets where you can buy directly from the producer. In the many masserie (typical rural farm houses) and country guesthouses you can enjoy the tasty food of Puglia, based mainly on fresh, sun ripened and natural products. Add tasty wines, the warm hospitality of the south and low prices – there you have a real pleasure going out!
If you are interested in cultural activities you will also find plenty of things to do and see in Puglia. Villa Lona lies in the “Magna Graecia”, the antique part of Southern Italy colonialized by the Greek. By Manduria the Messapians left amongst other things gravesites and a wall. There is also a museum for primitivo there. Other historical places are the port city of Galllipoli, the baroque Lecce, Matera, the soon to be European Capital of Culture 2019 with its sassi – caves, Alberobello and its complete town of trulli, and the ceramic town of Grottaglie, just to name a few.
We think Puglia has so much to offer; beautiful beaches, so much space, the feeling of freedom, warmth, hearty people, charming towns… And since we really enjoy cooking and eating, we indulge ourselves with the great range of local fruits and vegetables available at any time of the year, variations of typical pasta, the home made taralli we buy at the local supermarket Jonical in San Pietro in Bevagna (the big counter there is brilliant!), olive oil in big quantities, and of course, the wine. Whether you buy an expensive bottle or a 5-L-can from the local store, the taste is always delicious!
