We did enjoy our stay in this home! The hostess was very communicative and quick to respond to questions. The historic home is beautiful and the town is lovely. There are just a few things that could be improved for a 5 star rating. The beds were comfortable but the couch in the living room is really uncomfortable. Bedside lamps would be a big plus as well as some basic cooking condiments, like cooking spray and basic seasonings to make scrambled eggs for instance. Unfortunately, the bath tub drain would not stay closed to fill the tub so we were unable to utilize the bath tub. Also important to note, if traveling with children or light sleepers, the road the house is on is very loud from the constant traffic. It seemed to be worse during the week. Also, the street side parking is on the opposite side of the road so we had to cross the busy street to come and go which was a bit of a safety concern with kids.
We loved staying in this beautifully restored house while we explored the town of Philippi and the surrounding area. Both the house and the town were delightful and well worth the visit! We would recommend this place to anyone looking for small-town historic charm. Philippi is an understated gem!
The house was so cute and charming. Everything is so well kept and the furnishings were some of the best I have every seen in a weekend house. The neighbor hood is quite, but there is a lot of street traffic. There were a few little shops to walk to and we enjoyed the Lurch Festival while we were there.

Great property and location, unfortunate mold issue
The house was beautiful and located right in the heart of the town of Philipi. We were able to visit 3 state parks within 30 min drive as well as walk to dinner, ive cream and live music in town. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to us, the house has active water/roof damage in the front bedroom. I believe we should have been made aware of this prior, so we could find another location for our weekend getaway. We travelled with 3 young children, 2 of which woke up every morning with nasal congestion, watery eyes and coughing. The wall where the water damage had occurred had visible mold and damage to the infrastructure. The entire house also smelled mildewy/moldy due to this issue. Luckily, we spent most of our long weekend outside on the back patio, in the backyard and travelling to nearby parks. Once home, my families symptoms resolved. I would rent again once the property has been properly removated and cleaned. I notified the property owner the minute we entered the property. She was fully aware of the damage. I was not offered a resolution nor money back given my families respiratory inconvenience.
Very old restored property. Nicely situated in town so walking is nice. Parking is street parking or possible behind property for larger rigs (we used a 24’ class C rv). Modest accommodations Plenty of room. Kinda wish they had more than one mirror. All in all it’s a nice place to chill and see the beautiful areas around the town. Interestingly, the house across the street is where Ted Cassidy grew up. He went on later in life doing a lot of voice over work and eventually found his way into TV shows. He’s better known a Lurch, the butler of The Aadams Family tv show.
Wonderful House - Clean - Elegant - Great Location
What a beautiful and clean house. We loved it! And so did our kids. Our oldest thought the clawfoot tub was so fancy and fun. It was a beautiful and well taken care of home and in the perfect location. Exactly as was listed. We will be back.
Stayed for Wesleyan graduation for my daughter who spent her first three years in Phillippi at Alderson Broaddus before it closed.Enjoyed staying in the town and seeing the historical museum by bridge with the Mummies! House is beautiful and host was very accommodating.
We needed a place to stay as we were picking up a puppy in the area. The house was exactly as described online, super clean, and very comfortable. The owners were in touch with us if we needed anything. I would highly recommend this home.
The home is gorgeous and the woodwork details are beautiful. The house was extemely clean and well stocked. We very much enjoyed our stay while visiting family, and will be sure to rent it again when we return.
