About this property
Petite Bastide | Château Constantin
## Space
At Château Constantin, you enter an estate steeped in history, in the heart of the Luberon. Here, stone and light compose a soothing setting—amid vineyards, olive groves, and forest—where the Provençal art of living meets winemaking expertise. The balance between respect for nature and winemaking tradition is felt at every moment: a serene environment, perfect for getting together.
Your stay is punctuated by true moments of relaxation thanks to the estate’s facilities: a swimming pool for unwinding, a boulodrome for friendly pétanque matches, a ping-pong table, and a tennis court for sports enthusiasts. The 20 hectares of forest overlooking the château and the vines invite you to stroll and encounter local wildlife. Every moment here feels like a timeless interlude—an invitation to slow down and savor Provence.
🏫 The Bastide comprises two independent accommodations, each with its own entrance: La Petite Bastide and La Maison. The property can be rented in its entirety or separately; in the latter case, the outdoor areas are shared. Please note that access to Château Constantin involves several steps.
🏡 La Petite Bastide hosts 2 to 9 guests. You enter through the grand door of the historic building, which opens onto a majestic staircase with generous ceiling height, enhanced by a period chandelier, leading to the first level. On this level, a vast living room brings together two sofas, a fireplace, and a flat-screen TV, extending into the dining room and the fully equipped kitchen (oven, gas and induction hobs, hood, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, coffee machine, large table). A utility room completes this level (washing machine, dryer, refrigerator, freezer, microwave, sink).
🛌 A first bedroom is also on this floor: it is fitted with three 90 × 200 cm modular beds (two can be joined to form 180 × 200) and has its own en-suite bathroom.
The other bedrooms are on the upper levels. A period wooden staircase leads to the mezzanine, where an elegant suite unfolds with a king-size bed and a private bathroom. On the top level, two additional bedrooms complete the layout: one with a decorative fireplace, shower room, and two 90 × 200 cm beds (joinable to 180 × 200); the other facing the terrace, with a bathroom and a king-size bed.
☀️ The outdoor areas shared between the two accommodations (or for guests renting the entire Bastide) center around a 13 × 6 m pool (depth 1.40 m to 2.40 m, diamond tip), unheated and secured by an audible alarm. It is bordered by parasols, loungers, and deckchairs, complemented by a hammock and a large outdoor dining table. A Weber gas barbecue is available, as well as a pétanque court, a ping-pong table, and various sports equipment.
❄️ Finally, a heat-pump cooling and heating system is available in all rooms of the Bastide, ensuring optimal comfort in every season.
## Access
At 1.4 km from the center of Lourmarin (15–20 minutes on foot or 3 minutes by car), Château Constantin enjoys a rare setting: peaceful, surrounded by vines, olive trees, and hills, yet just moments from the terraces, boutiques, galleries, and heritage of Lourmarin—one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. At day’s end, sunsets over the vineyard are particularly magical.
A defining chapter: the Chevalier family. In the early 1990s, the Chevaliers undertook a true renaissance of the estate: restoring old vines, expanding plots, planting new ones, selecting grape varieties, and creating a modern winemaking cellar in the original buildings. Hand harvesting, careful sorting, stainless-steel vats, and precise aging laid the foundations for today’s quality—as shown in period photos.
In spring 2016, Anne-Marie and Daniel, together with their daughters Camille and Mathilde, in turn fell under the spell of Château Constantin. Originally from Marseille and from a family of fruit growers, they chose to reconnect with nature and bring this wine estate back to life. Daniel, a pharmacist, and Anne-Marie, a former L’Oréal executive, embraced the challenge of a demanding career change, rehabilitating the vineyard with respect for nature and tradition. Convinced that wine quality is born in the vineyard, they converted the estate to organic farming. In 2020, Camille took over management of the cellar, achieving an initial organic certification and launching a range of natural wines—a key milestone in the château’s story, which today spans 20 hectares of vines, forest, and olive grove.
🚜 In September, you can enjoy an immersive experience during the harvest, which lasts around three weeks, right from the Bastide. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover the winemaking process. During this period, machinery may operate day and night and occasionally generate noise; your understanding enables the teams to work efficiently and safely—a guarantee of wine quality.
🍷 The winery and tasting room are on site with a separate entrance: tours and tastings are available by appointment—summer, Monday to Saturday, 10:00–13:00 and 14:30–18:30; winter, Monday to Friday, 10:00–17:00—to discover the soul of Château Constantin, its methods, and its cuvées, right by the vines. The tasting room is closed during the Christmas holidays.
