Perfect jungle property

Stayed with family for 5 nights and didn’t want to leave. Property is very isolated and in the thick of the rainforest which is just what we were looking for. Wake up to birds chirping and the distant sound of the river flowing nearby. Deborah/owner was awesome and so was Jose. Would love to come back some day.

Amazing stay with incredibly helpful hosts

We love to hike and this place has great trails and hikes. The nearby river is gorgeous and the trees and flowers are spectacular. Jose’s night hike was a lot of fun for the whole family. We’ve rented a hundred vacation homes and Pete and Deborah were the most communicative and helpful of any place we’ve stayed. The house is beautiful and clean. It can get a little hot at night in the rooms but they supply lots of fans which work well. We loved everything about our stay..

The Best

The hosts were very friendly and very accommodating. They were always available to answer questions, or offer suggestions for activities in the area. The house is large and open, surrounded by acres of rainforest beauty. We were treated to a guided walk-around tour of the area. Our guide, Jose, was great. The house was filled with exotic flower arrangements from the property. We highly recommend this VRBO house and hosts. They made our first visit to Costa Rica amazing and memorable.

I found this property when I was looking for something in Quepos, but this property is definitely not located there. If you are looking for a private getaway in the mountain rainforest then this is the location you’ve dreamed about. It is secluded and quite, except for the sound of the river rushing in the distance and the birds and frogs chirping all around. The property and José are the shining star of our entire stay. I haven’t mentioned the private waterfall a short hike from the home. All of our plans changed when we were taken to this hidden gem. We decided to avoid the crowded beaches in Manual Antonio and busy traffic because we could swim in a waterfall with no one else around. As for the home, it is a bit like staying at your grandparents house. A thoughtful home that is open to the surrounding beauty with screened walls and many little nooks to sit and relax in. It is comfortable you have all you need including a washer AND dryer. The host will make sure you have all of the information you need to get to the home and ensures you are happy throughout the stay. We did have Cleo cook for us our last night there and I wish we would have had her cook for us more often. The food was delicious I did not have to clean the kitchen afterwards (she left it spotless) and it cost us less than going out to eat at a restaurant.I will plan to return to this home again in the future. It is a must if you want piece and quite in beautiful surroundings.

Jungle Oasis

I can't say enough amazing things about this place! Pete and Deb become friends and make your experience (not just a stay) as seemless as possible. We stayed a few different places in the week we were in CR and nothing topped this. The home is open and beautiful, the property is breathtaking, and the time the hosts took to make our memories unforgettable, is so rare and appreciated.

A wonderful and beautiful stay.

We had a great time staying at Peter's place. Peter showed us around his ace and was very informative on the flora and fauna. The house was well equipped with everything we needed and the grounds were a tropical paradise (really). Recommend to anyone that is not bothered by an approximate 40minute drive from Quepos down some bumpy but pretty dirt roads.

Incredible, Breathtaking, Spectacular Stay

First of all, the host will literally do anything for you to help make your stay amazing! Very communicative. Her grounds keeper Jose, of this 230 acre dream gave us a three hour tour which we recommend. This was our first time to Costa Rica and this beautiful place should be a place you should consider. Very remote. We rented a truck w/ 4 wheel drive. Something you would feel more comfortable making the trek on the stunning switchback dirt roads. The jaw-dropping hike to the water fall is something we will never forget! So many wondrous sounds off in the jungle and right outside your door! Hummingbirds everywhere, butterflies, and so many creatures…it will amaze you! There’s everything you need there to cook. Make sure to get the Lozano Salsa Sauce- so delicious! Don’t pass this gem up! You’ll take the most stunning pictures There!

Rainforest Retreat

This was the perfect place for our family. We wish we could have stayed and enjoyed the property longer. Our host was fantastic and attentive. Her employees were the best. We loved the hikes we did on the property and the swim in the waterfall. We also did a night tour with Jose' and had a great time seeing all the critters. (My daughter is a biology major so she could have explored this property for many more days.) It is a rustic feel in the middle of the rainforest which is what we wanted. We highly recommend it for those wanting to stay IN the rainforest.

Adventure

It was an adventure to stay in the jungle. We loved having a private river to hike 1/2 mile to anytime we wanted. Host Debra and Jose the guide were great and helped us book any excursions we needed. The falls were not going while we were there due to summer dry season. Home can get warm in the really hot humid days and some bugs in the home but nothing not expected staying in the jungle. We loved the privacy of the place! The whole family had a good time.

Wonderful tropical paradise

We had a wonderful time at this mountaintop getaway. The home is a bit remote but once you get there you discover that it is worth the drive. It is large, comfortable and surrounded by beautiful views of the rainforest and all that goes with it. The homeowners did everything possible to ensure we had a wonderful visit and having a chef available made our vacation even more relaxing and enjoyable. Definitely the best of Costa Rican hospitality.

Was great!

We enjoyed our stay very much! The hosts were great at helping book the extra activities that we did. They went above and beyond to help us. Even when I made a mistake on my own, they verified that we would be OK anyway. A 4-wheel drive vehicle was recommended and definitely made the drive out to the property easier, but was not required. There was a panaderia right off the road on the way there. Highly recommend stopping there to get some delicious treats. The meat-stuffed breads were top-notch.

Best Vacation Ever

The best way for me to summarize this trip was when our 17 year old turned to us and said he never wants to go back to Hawaii, Costa Rica was much better. This excellent experience would not have been possible without Deborah and Peter. They assisted us in having one of the best vacations ever. They went out of their way to provide the help and guidance we needed for tours and activities. I can't even describe the property they have and how beautiful it was. The house was very nice!! Unfortunately we could not make it back this year but definitely plan on coming back next year for a much longer stay.

A real Costa Rican experience!

The owners were fabulous with preparing us for our stay. They lined us up with help on just about everything we needed, including tour guides. Super people to work with!! The property is in the rainforest. It doesn't get any more authentic than this. Jose guided us around the property, showing us plants, herbs, fruit, and wildlife. We had private access to the waterfalls on the property! The house was clean, comfortable, and filled with personal touches upon our arrival. The grounds were absolutely gorgeous!! If you want to get a rainforest experience with the most kind people to work with, this is your place!!

Beautiful property experiences

This was a beautiful, remote location offering 200 acres to explore and enjoy without the inconvenience of other tourists. Deborah went out of her way to ensure we only had the best experience. Jose, our property tour guide, naturalist, and an integral part of Deborah’s support staff, is a wealth of knowledge about the jungle and showed us plants and animals that we’ll never forget. The property has beautiful waterfalls, wonderful swimming hole, and flora and fauna that delivered a once in a lifetime experience. Deborah also arranged for us an exquisite in-home dinning experience with her local friend and chef, Cleo; this is something you definitely want to try. Although somewhat of a rustic place (no air conditioning), we enjoyed awakening every morning to the sounds of the wildlife. In short, the people associated with this property are some of the finest you can ever meet.

A True Costa Rican Experience

This property is the real Costa Rica! The location is literally in the middle of a rainforest and the hosts are amazing! The “nightlife” is a tour of rainforest with flashlights and the local guide (Jose) to learn about native plants and find creatures that you would never see on your own. Jose also takes you on a short day hike to the “pool”-a private, 60 foot waterfall hidden in the middle of the property. The host is wonderful and does everything to make sure you have everything you need. If you want to sit on your couch to check emails and watch Netflix, this place is not for you. If you want a truly unique experience you can cherish for the rest your life, book this place!!

Serene rainforest getaway

It was refreshing to be in the middle of a rainforest with all its magical nature (cicada, birds, rain) plus a private waterfall/river area to explore. We had moments to experience--sun times, pouring rain, guided night walk, self guided explore thru the land and to the river . Big pluses; Deb so kindly helped with driving arrangements to/from house. She also arranged the night walk with Jose that was a highlight. The washer and dryer with detergent was a lifesaver after being in Costa Rica for 2 weeks. A full kitchen with some basics stocked. There was plenty of space with two large upstairs bedrooms and a third on the main floor. Lots of nooks and crannies to read a book, play games or just enjoy the rainforest view.Things to consider: -the house is a ways from stores/restaurants so bring food needed while you're there. If you have a car it makes it easier. We stayed 2 days without car. -bumpy unpaved road part of experience to there-the house is not new construction, so has some quirks that add to its custom charm. The floors are creaky, making it hard to sneak up the stairs without anyone knowing you're coming. The electricity flickered when we had a rainstorm, but came back within seconds. Plenty of eclectic decorations, towels, and warm showers. The house feels completely safe in its privacy and Deb responded within moments when we reached out. We agreed we'd stay here again as the experience you get is peacefully unlike any other you will find in CR.

wonderful property, a hidden gem with animals, birds, waterfalls, and very helpful staff

We started out our first trip to Costa Rica at this house- 4 adults and two granddaughters 6 and 9. We and they loved the house, waking up in the deep forest with animal and birds and their sounds. Peter gave us a great tour of the property ending at the spectacular waterfalls and a swim for everyone- Pura Vida happened immediately. We enjoyed the property so much we didn't venture out to the National Park until our third day. It was super helpful to have Peter meet us at the Super Compro (supermarket in Quepos) and lead us up to the property- after that we had it down and it was easy. Got used to driving on the potholed Costa Rican dirt roads but it was well maintained and no challenge. Our only complaint (from all the group) is that we didn't book enough time there, we liked it so much. Thanks to all who run the house and make it such a great experience.

The Perfect Place to Get Away from it all!

We had an amazing stay at Light of Dawn! The beautiful house is located high on the mountain and makes you feel like you are deep in the rainforest. Our favorite part was the walk through the property with the owner. We learned SO much about the incredible amounts of plants and trees, and the work he has done on the property is astonishing. The waterfall was especially beautiful and we had a great time jumping off the rocks into the cool river. The electricity went out for a bit each evening (not for long) but this made dinners all the more romantic by candle light *they provided PLENTY of candles and flash lights. The construction of the house being all screened in on the bottom made it truly feel like you were out with nature, and the sounds of animals at night and birds in the morning was so peaceful. The owners are extremely nice and care about the comfort and experience of each guest visiting. Highly recommend this place if you want to get away from it all and relax in the Costa Rican rainforest!

Connected With Nature

This property was everything my wife and I were looking for: a safe place in the country to be alone and re-connect with each other. We went to bed with the windows and doors open, and the sounds of night birds and crickets and the distannt river; and woke up to the sun just behind the rainforest/jungle mountains, and the sounds of 100's of beautiful song birds. Scrambled to get out ot bed and watch, photograph and take in the beauty and serenity. Peter & Deb are awesome, as well as Eduardo, the gardner/security guy (brush up on your spanish, but he is awesome). Do enjoy walking the grounds and the waterfall/pool. We were safe and secure the whole time. Cannot wait to go back next year, so I should probably be telling you all to stay away. But I would be lying horribly. Our time here was the very best part of our weeks in Costa Rica!

Best hidden secret ever!!! Pua Vida!!!!

This being our second vacation at this location, I will say the new road to the house which was in the finishing stages upon our arrival was beyond excellent. Nice widened road that was smooth as can be. The road never prevented us from coming back because the property and the hosts Peter and Deborah are awesome people!! The property is still beautiful and enjoyable as it was two years before. We spent two weeks here this time and are planning another trip back next year. Overall the adventures that we took were great: Whitewater rafting, Mangrove tour (monkeys), Manual Antonio Park (sloths and Monkey and more), Palma Sur (Spheres), Waterfalls/Rope Bridge, swimming holes and Canyoning just added to the adventure!! We relaxed several days just on the property to find the waterfalls and hike around to see all the beauty it had to offer. This place is truly a hidden paradise with unlimited potential for adventure. I could go on for hours about this property and would still miss telling of all the fun we had. We even made sure to record the nightly sounds (dink frogs specifically) before leaving so we can have the nightly sound to remind us of our stay!!!

Great Get Away

For those wanting seclusion, this is the place for you. It's a beautiful property in the heart of the rain forest. The owners, Peter and Deborah made the stay very pleasant and are wonderful, friendly people. We did the "All Inclusive." Chef Cleo prepared wonderful meals, fresh fruit juices, appetizers and very creative deserts. There was so much tasty food, that you won't go hungry. We took 4 wonderful tours and Peter gave us a tour of the property and waterfall with plunge pool. Even though we had a driver, Pelusa couldn't speak much English nor us Spanish, but we got along great. Because the property is far from any restaurants and the town of Quepos, you might want to rent a car to do your own exploring. The last 4-km up to the house is on a rough, gravel road , so you might want to rent a 4-wheel drive. Beware, there's no air conditioning, but there are ceiling and floor fans which help with the warm, humid nights. We stayed here between April 19-26, which is just a the beginning of the rainy season, so there was usually and afternoon shower. We had an enjoyable time and hope to be back in future. A home away from home in the jungle

This place is a gem! We stayed here with our two kids, 7 and 10 and it felt like home (but in the deep jungle). The sounds of the ding frog at night, the walks to the waterfall, we went down to the waterfall 3 times, brought a picnic and enjoyed the beauty! My husband saw a Tucan while we were in the waterfall! We played chess at night, went into Manuel Antonio for a beach and national park day, it is about a 40 minute drive to town but we loved that since Manuel Antonio is a busy town with a lot of people hustling to make a buck off you. We loved the beach and everyone was friendly, we just preferred the sounds of the rainforest and being surrounded by all the beautiful plant life. And of course loved the private waterfall! If you want to get away from people and submerse yourself in nature and really slow down this is your place! And the drive to town goes fast since you are enjoying all the scenery. We LOVED staying here!!! Pete is the best too! He showed us around, checked on us when we got in late after our beach day to make sure all was good and told us all about the local plant life and what he is doing to help the rainforest through his plantings and care. Lots of personal attention and love going into this property! We will miss this place! Pura Vida!
