About this property
Stunning Historic Church
"The Little Church on the HIll." Find your refreshing and peaceful retreat away at a stunning church transformed into cozy, modern home. Enjoy the beautiful forest just outside of beautiful Woodstock in the Hudson Valley. 1 Queen private bedroom, and large shared space with an amazing California King bed for sleeping or lounging, as well as a twin bed up a spiral staircase.
Easy to access yet hidden in the woods, the architectural history of this stunning space has been lovingly maintained and restored since its construction in 1914 as a small local church. From the 1950s until now, it has been a quiet living space for couples and families appearing in Life, Home and Garden Magazines, and novels as well. Your time here will bring wonderful memories well after your visit.
The church sits on 1.5 acres of forest land, with seating outdoors, a new grill, and plenty to explore. Easy parking is right outside.
The great room with 25-foot cathedral ceilings, framed by original stained glass and soaring picture windows provides natural light and a view of the woods outside. Walls are fantastic original early 20th century textured tin, perfectly preserved. Sit down in front of a romantic wood burning stove, framed by a mantle taken from a legendary Broadway Theatre or relax in an amazing carved Indonesian teak California king sized bed, which can be used for sleeping or lounging during the day.
Next climb up to an old-fashioned spiral staircase to a small room just below the bell tower that is perfect for reading, relaxing, or sleeping. The former Sunday School space, just off the great room is now a bedroom with a queen bed and closet, private access to the bathroom, and its door next to the front entrance for quiet and privacy. Plenty of space to get lost in.
For additional enjoyment, our “Little Church on the Hill” has great modern heat, air conditioning, and a strong internet connection. The furniture is simple, beautiful, and functional, with new beds and mattresses, top quality bedding, and antiques from the area newly purchased. The kitchen is fully equipped, and many have enjoyed cooking and eating a great meal here.
Outside is a patio with a Weber grill, dining table, a simple couch and chair set, and a hammock. Gardening is underway, but the forest is lovely in itself.
Something to know before you book! We purposely don't have a television in order to preserve the flow of the space and foster disconnection from the digital world. We do keep books and games available. We also don't have a washer/dryer at this time because they are extremely expensive to install in an old property. Guests who love this place appreciate the peace, the beauty, and the history. We don't want anyone to be disappointed that these two modern amenities are not available.
