A Family paradise at 3225 feet elevation nestled in the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains! Located just seven miles from the Plumas county seat of Quincy, California. Here is where you will find this lovely home on the banks of Spanish Creek. Situated just below the historic old resort, mining community, and railroad town of Keddie. Positioned within viewing distance from our home is one of the seven wonders of the Western Pacific Railroad, the famous Wye bridge trestle. The “Wye” and town were named for Arthur Keddie. Keddie was an engineer who pioneered and surveyed the route for the railroad through the Feather River back in 1909.
Fast forward to the 1960s when Keddie was being transformed into a resort by realtor Clarence Arthur English Jr. who had purchased the town in ’57 with the goal of making it into a first class resort destination. One of the features that Mr. English developed was the “Swimmin Hole’ which were a series of stone stairs leading down to patios and built in stone barbecue pits on the banks of Spanish Creek.
More than 50 years later the beautiful rock work and patios still exist and in fact have been reborn for today’s generation of families. This wonderful setting with its modest home is available now to be enjoyed by young and old alike.
The home is a fully equipped, modern, and cheerful. It has three private sleeping areas. The master bedroom has a large closet, a California King bed, and it's own private bath. The large master bath includes a beautiful claw foot tub for relaxing, a separate private room with a large modern stand-up shower. Another sleeping room offers a Queen Bed with antique dressers. This room also has its own door into a full bath. The front of the house has another sleeping room that has a Double Bed. Off this room is the laundry with a washer and dryer and storage area. A Queen size Aero Bed is also available.
The home has a fully stocked modern kitchen with refrigerator/freezer, cook top, double ovens and a dishwasher. The counter area also has three high backed stools to accommodate seating at the kitchen counter.
Off the kitchen is a sitting area for relaxing and enjoying the pictures and history of Keddie Resort in its heyday of the 1960s.
The dinning area has seating for six, while the living area has a large sofa just right for viewing the hi-definition large screen television that is artfully hidden when not in use in the large decorative wall cabinet and book case.
Out the French doors by the kitchen and sitting area is a covered porch that spans the entire length of the house. Seating is not a problem in the numerous chairs, the outside bar, and bar stools that adorn the porch.

We loved our Christmas stay at English Oaks! The creek was rather high so sadly we couldn’t use the outside lower patios but that’s okay. Ember was an amazing host so welcoming and great with communication!!! The beds were beyond comfy, the propane fire stove provided great heat and a comfy cozy feeling to the living room area. We enjoyed playing the games in the evening and hosting family for dinner. The two stoves made it easy to roast our Christmas ham and bake all the side dishes. The property was pet friendly and we loved meeting Embers dogs River and Skye. I enjoyed Rivers daily visits for love.
We had an awesome time at Keddie! The check-in was smooth and the house was perfect all around. Will stay there again in the future. Thanks Ember and Chris! You're the perfect hosts!Glen & Laura.
Great place for kids to play and enjoy Spanish Creek. Lots of room to spread out. We had 5 kids and 3 adults, and our 4-day stay in July was fun for all !Diane in Quincy
We just got home today and the last few years have spend one week a year with Ember & Chris’s warm and gracious hosting at their place on the Spanish River. All amenities are first-class all the way, a more than fully equipped kitchen, luxury bedding and towels, the list goes on and on. It never fails to refresh and renew us. Lots to do and see, or nothing at all, as is my personal preference. We look forward year after year to returning. That being said, see you next year!!!
This house is right on Spanish Creek within sight and walking distance of the train trestle. The rental is well set up and Ember and Chris are awesome hosts.
We really enjoyed our stay at the private, creek side house. There is so much to do very quiet and private a perfect location. Whenever we go again to visit family, I will definitely love to stay here again. Thanks for all the memories.
We had a great time! Enjoyed swimming the river right at the house , kids on the swing, lounging on the deck. It’s a great place to detach and your only 10mins from town. Ember is really helpful too and super nice. Highly reccomend!!
Perfect, as always. A week of resting, reading, and enjoying the hospitality of Ember & Chris. So many updates this year! It only added to the pleasure of this ‘home away from home’. We just got home today, but can’t wait for next year!
We had an amazing stay at English Oaks. It was clean, comfortable and cozy. The beds were amazing. We enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, so much love put into the landscaping and outside relaxing spots.
Ember and Chris were awesome hosts! We would definitely love to come back to this slice of heaven.

Ember and Chris couldn’t have been more welcoming to us. They went out their way to make us feel at home. The location is incredible. Had so much fun swimming in the river. The house and property are beautiful and serene! Well stocked kitchen, huge living room, family room and super comfy beds. We had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Can’t wait to go back!

I think your star rating may be incorrect? If you guys were so happy with the stay and want to come back then why the 2 stars? We even went against our policy and gave you a refund for the last night due to a family emergency back home. Very confused.
This is a beautiful property that is very well cared for and maintained. The house is gorgeous and the surrounding property is amazing. Chris and Ember do a fantastic job ensuring the home has everything you'll need for your stay, and their communication is superb. This is a fantastic spot for a nice quiet get away, and also offers a great location for many different adventures if you want. We will definitely be coming back to enjoy the house during the summer months!!

So glad you enjoyed your stay! We would love to have you back in the summer when everything is in bloom and you can enjoy the river!
We had such a wonderful time staying at this property. It’s tucked away in a private area right ON the river and so close to a private swimming hole. I loved the deck and patio by the river, and really sweet spot to enjoy the peacefulness of the area. The hosts were so easy to get a hold of and pleasant to interact with. The house was stocked with everything we needed and stores in town were only a short 10 min drive away. We were there during an unfortunate heat wave but the hosts provided clear direction on how to keep the house cool and comfortable. We’re hoping to come back again soon!
Our family enjoyed this quiet and relaxing getaway! The housezwas very clean, spacious and had all the amenities we beeded. We were pleasantly surprised to find SUP paddles and a paddle boat for our use. We all had a great time on the river. Ember let us pick fruit and herbs from the green house, and their sweet pup was a friendly greeter during the day. Next time we'll bring our pups! Thank you for a fantastic stay!
This was our second annual trip to English Oaks and I can’t say enough about it. Although there is much to do in this interesting area, we go strictly for the R&R and it is perfect as we spent a full week getting some much needed rest. Our hosts, Ember & Chris, along with their two sweet pups, always make us feel so at home. I should mention they are super accommodating with special requests too. We will be returning year after year for this welcome change from the usual pace. Thanks so much Ember and Chris!
I would love to give this place a bad review so I don’t have to compete with other people in the future for it but, of course, I can’t do that. This house is absolutely idyllic. Right on the creek, rustic, huge well-equipped kitchen, awesome, super responsive host. This spot really has it all. Close enough to Quincy to grab supplies but far enough out that you feel really isolated. Quiet (except for the occasional train which I happen to love) and stocked with everything you could need. We plan on coming back during the fishing/summer season. Thanks Ember!!!
We loved the water spot. I was a cozy cabin with nice setting. The host were very welcoming and helpful at all times.
The nature around house was stunning.
House could use a new bed in 1 of bedrooms, a new oven and better silverware.
We wished there were hicking trails without driving and the internet connection was really bad. Although we were not trying to stay connected we would have loved to watch movies at night and we couldn't.
Overall it was a great family experience over the water. Lots of great memories.

Thank you for your review! Sorry the stay wasn’t all that it could of been. We replaced the oven, silverware, new knife set and took care of the bed. We live in the mountains so not much we can do about the internet, although we have the same internet and are able to stream movies without any problem?? As to the hiking trails there are a couple within walking distance from the house. Next time you stay we would be happy to show you where they are. 😉 Again thank you for your review!

I have been English Oaks manager for the past 15 years and now Chris and I will be taking ownership of this beautiful property. I am a Real Estate agent and Chris is a Remodeling Contractor. We both grew up in Quincy so we know all the cool places to visit in Plumas County. Chris's dad used to own Keddie Resort and we are so happy to be continuing the tradition that was started so many years ago.
Why they chose this property
We are located at the end of a dead end road right on the river. Occasional guests are directly across the river and we live next door on the property. We also have two very friendly Golden Retrievers who love to come and visit.
What makes this property unique
Riverfront property with private swimming hole, rock firepits on a private dead end road.
