About Joe and Linda Bird
Our aloha for all things Hawaiian began as we listened to the stories of our kapuna (elders). They told us of their trips to Hawai'i and the beauty the aina (land). They described the sweeping views, mauka (mountain) and makai (sea), lush tropical vegetation and the warm, gentle climate. On our own first trip to the islands in 1969, we found all that and much more. We found even greater beauty in the people of Hawai'i. As the opportunities came to connect with them, their culture, mele (song) and hula (dance), we were led to discover the true meaning of Aloha.
Joe and Linda Bird purchased this Villa in 2004
Why Joe and Linda Bird chose Princeville
We chose the North Shore of Kaua'i because of its' great climate and its' access to the water. When we first came to Hawai'i, it was to coach Water Polo teams entered in tournaments on O'ahu. Years later the purpose was to participate in the Ironman Triathlon in Kona. We have swam, snorkeled, paddled, body surfed, lifeguarded, taught and coached swimmers of all ages for decades. For us, now, the North Shore of Kaua'i was the best possible spot for us to maintain our connection with the water. We chose our home in the Hanalei Bay Villas because of the views (mountain, jungle and sea) and because of its' privacy and serenity. It has a Hawaiian sense of place. To preserve this place is our kuleana (responsibility). We truly enjoy sharing this makana (gift) of aloha with our guests. Many of them describe its' mystical qualities of the place, its' healing power, spiritual sense and meditative tranquility. It is definitely a place where one remain in the moment. And yet, be in the water within a short walk.
What makes this Villa unique
We enjoy being at home in Kaua'i. The simple routines of the day, like going to the market, are a pleasure, enhanced by the climate and the surrounding beauty. We also enjoy exploring everything else the Island has to offer. In September we had the opportunity to paddle the Napali Coast, with Kayaks Kaua'i out of Hanalei. The trip took all day, including the shuttle ride back from Polihale and was a great adventure. From one extreme to the other, for us it is all good!

If you're looking for the perfect place to stay on the north shore, look no farther. Easy to get to, immaculate home, ALL the amenities you'll need and close to the best beaches ever. Nice owners too who are very concerned about how you're doing. We couldn't have been happier. Thanks
Mahalo nui loa, we do appreciate your kind words of support.
Peace and beauty, inside and out.
Absolutely loved our recent stay at Haleakamanu-lovely, comfortable home decorated with beautiful Hawaiian art pieces and thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed, from kitchen supplies to beach gear. Good, comfortable beds and furniture. Sooo relaxing! Definitely felt like our home away from home and we felt cared for by Joe and Linda, who were helpful and responsive to all of our questions. The view from the second floor lanai is absolutely dreamy-forgot about time gazing out and watching/listening to all the birds. Beautiful sunset view over the water across the street. Very very quiet area and easy access to nearby shopping center and short drive to Hanalei town and other beaches. Truly a beautiful home base while exploring Kauai!
Mahalo and aloha to our wonderful hosts, Joe and Linda!
Wow! Over the years (now going on 15) we have been blessed to have guests who "get it" and we greatly appreciate them as well. Hawaii, historically, has been about hospitality. It is our goal to live up to that tradition.
OMG! We want to live there!
Beautiful unit with one of the best mountain views in the world - right across the street from sunset on the ocean.
All that was described and more. Clean with all the amenities we needed. There were just two of us, but a family of four or more could easily be accommodated. Beautifully decorated, all appliances modern. Absolutely no negatives here. We had a great time. Sad to leave.
Beautiful location but no AC
We knew there was no AC but it was very hot especially in the downstairs bedroom. We had all 3 fans blowing on us but it was still very hot. Recommend getting a portable AC unit for downstairs master bedroom for August temperatures which were 88-90 degrees
Thank you for your suggestion and weʻll follow up on it.
Simply put, a gem of a house and the perfect location and place to call home during our stay on the North Shore. Proximity wise to any activity that suits your fancy, this can't be beat. The location in the beautiful and lush forest area of Princeville with the sights, sounds and yes, the rainbows were breathtaking. The house is beautiful with so many courtesies extended us it was remarkable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would indeed return again. :)
This “tree house” style condo has breathtaking views, is absolutely spotless and completely modernized. It is facing the mountains but right across the street is a lookout over the ocean and a perfect sunset viewing. The owners are lovely and responsive to any inquiries. The condo is in Princeville which is a “planned community” set up but has a great pizza restaurant a walking minute away and a grocery a five minute drive. Hanelei is a 10 min drive but construction makes it more like 20:). I know I sound like a fake review but it was truly a special place. Just to keep it real I will add that there are lots of steps so it would not work for those with physical limitations and the condo was hot for those of us used to a/c but they do provide fans! I recommend Joe and Linda’s house unreservedly!
