Peggy's All-American family were awesome guests and I'm so glad they chose the Finch Forest. Very good communication and patience when the keyless entry battery died. They generously started the laundry when they left, and when I got there it hardly looked like anyone had stayed! I'm sorry your kids didn't get the total experience they were looking for but this property has never advertised or promised a hot tub. I checked with the wifi provider and there were no outages during your stay. The listing states that the TVs are "internet only" which means you must log in to any application you want to use. Had you called at any time I could have walked you through any problem you might have been having. Disappointed you would leave such a negative review without rechecking the listing or calling for assistance. We work hard to provide a 5-star experience for all guests and untruthful reviews are very hurtful.

As you know, there’s more to the story than a bad heater. Your trip coincided with a 2000 mile wide storm that was the worst this country has experienced in 20 years. It was on the news constantly for three weeks before its arrival - along with dire warnings to avoid travel, stock up on essentials, and prepare for the worst. With the storm came mass power outages that left millions in the dark and cold (including all over eastern TN), then days of power surges, rolling blackouts, and hundreds of damaged HVAC systems (including my 3-month old $8,000 system). Those were the reasons a brand new heater failed when night time temperatures were in low single digits – not an indifferent host whose negligence or antiquated equipment created an easily repairable problem. In addition, the worst of the storm occurred over Christmas weekend when repair techs were tapped out responding to emergencies and couldn’t even reach homes they were sent to help. Despite the host calling the 12 reputable repair companies within 50 miles for emergency service, only one company responded and was able to get there the same day. None of the others answered the phone or responded to multiple voice mails. But by the time they arrived and diagnosed the problem, all the parts stores were closed for the holiday and weather - and wouldn’t reopen until the Tuesday after Christmas. Knowing your trip was scheduled for late December when severe weather is foreseeable, expected, and likely in mountain areas, you could have considered “cancel for any reason travel insurance” at the time you booked or at any time up to 24 hours before departure. I even called you a few days before the trip to see if you wanted to cancel because of the impending dangerous weather and you emphatically declined. In the future I hope you’ll consider inexpensive insurance rather than unfairly downgrade a host who personally did not create and had nothing to do with your predicament, offered in advance to let you cancel or reschedule the trip, was immediately responsive to your calls, spent the entire day trying to set up a service call and repair under very difficult circumstances, and even put your large party up for the night in very nice accommodations at personal expense. That’s the way the community is supposed to work.
