About this property
Iconic Woodstock Home - Private, Walk to Town, Family & Pet friendly
Relax in this charming getaway on 2 wooded acres with bucolic stream. Fully renovated designer home on landscaped property surrounded by trees, walking distance (.5 mi) to center of Woodstock: boutiques, bookstores, cafes, fine dining, antique shops, art galleries, performance spaces, Tinker Street Cinema and seasonal flea market and farmer's market. Fully-equipped kitchen with high-end appliances. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, indoor wood stove, living room, dining area, reading nook in loft, deck with propane grill and outdoor fire pit. Close to Catskills hiking and skiing, and the Hudson Valley towns of Phoenicia, Saugerties, Kingston and Rhinebeck with many local festivals, farmers’ markets, family activities, swimming holes and live music year-round. In winter, ski at Hunter, Belleayre (40 min), Catamount, Windham (1 hr).
Enjoy the bright, wooden-clad and spacious living/dining area with working wood stove and huge skylight. Cozy up to a book in the second floor loft with library and daybed, full of books & a guitar. There are two bedrooms upstairs, one with a queen-size bed and private sink. The "kids" room has two twin beds. Both get a lot of natural morning and afternoon sun. The master suite with queen-size bed is downstairs. The master bath has a tub/shower. The second bath, also downstairs, has a walk-in shower. All bedrooms have large closets. Enjoy breakfast with views of the surrounding woodlands in the large, eat-in kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with double oven, an electric four-burner cooktop -- two conventional and two induction -- pots and pans, china, utensils, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and dishwasher, and a full pantry with coffee, baking items, oils, and spices. There is also a full-size dining table in the dining area. We provide a baby booster seat, portable crib, gate, and baby bowl, cup and utensils. The HE laundry is located right off the kitchen, we provide soap and instructions.
In addition, we provide: bed linens, blankets, pillows, towels, organic liquid soap, shampoo and conditioner.
Our guests will have access to the entire house and outdoor areas. In the interest of safety, we ask that you not leave small children unattended on the second floor, or allow them to play on the spiral staircase. Please note that the spiral staircase provides the only access to the second floor. Both bathrooms are on the first floor.
The section of driveway leading to the house is private. The garage is not included in the rental, but there is ample outdoor parking.
This is a non-smoking property. The house is not suitable for parties. We ask that you refrain from loud music or other noise after 10 pm.
Small, well-behaved dogs, up to 50 lbs, are welcome for an additional fee. We permit one dog per visit only, no cats or other animals. Please do not allow your dog on the furniture or beds. Please clean up after them outside. Please do not leave your dog alone in the house unless fully potty trained. Please do not ask to bring multiple or larger pets.
Property owner is available by text or phone if you have any questions and is nearby in case of emergency. We'll send detailed check-in instructions a few days before your arrival. Please observe check-in and check-out times, and the check-out checklist you will find in the dining room.
Thank you, we hope you enjoy your stay!

About the host
Hosted by Saskia van Meer

Videographer and permaculture student with an interest in merging the arts with botany and land management. I've been in Woodstock since 2018 and love the balance this village strikes between small urban and rugged nature, with many enchanting hikes just a short drive away. Swimming holes, quarries, regenerative farms, thrift stores, fresh produce - these are what keep me in this beautiful place.
Why they chose this property
This house has a rich history of having been owned or occupied by different artists as part of the Byrdcliffe Arts colony (check it out on Upper Byrdcliffe!) - most notably Eugene Speicher, one of the more successful portraitists of the colony and close friends with George Bellows, Charles Rosen and their families (who all lived in neighboring houses). Formerly a studio space boasting a large skylight fashioned from a piece of an old greenhouse, the house has been converted into a 3-bedroom home with lots of family charm and personal touches - family paintings, antique furniture from our natal country of Belgium, and other objects.
What makes this property unique
This house is secluded and completely private, yet just a 7-10 minute walk to the village green of Woodstock. We can't boast this enough! We are situated 200 yards off the road along a private driveway. The house itself is perched on a hill, built into the emerging bedrock on the land. The fenced in yard and garden are a work in progress with beautiful pollinator plants and young cherry and magnolia tree. The house is a relatively open plan with plenty of nooks to read in. We provide a desk with computer monitor (HDMI cable). Enjoy!
