About this property

Sandy Mutts at the Beach

Make some memories at this vintage cottage, and family-friendly place. We are "Beach Side" with just a short walk to the fantastic Chesapeake Bay Beaches. No streets to cross!

We are pet friendly and offer the following amenities: Large Smart TV, High Speed WiFi, Window AC, Full Kitchen with Stove, Back Deck, Charcoal Barbecue Grill, One Queen Size Bed and one queen size sleeper sofa.

This is an older home in very close proximity to the beach; ideal for the beach-lover looking for a cost-friendly option to vacation or travel with a longer term stay.

This little beach cottage may not be for everyone. It is one of the last remaining beach boxes built during the 1940's. As such, there are vintage-touches still in place.

Sandy Mutts has many of the original features such as tiled bathroom and electric heating system. There have been some upgrades which include the window AC unit, fresh paint throughout both inside and out. If you are looking for modern perfection, this may not be for you. Our pictures are accurate and show the home as it is. We have tried to make it a cute, comfortable and an economical place for small families or couples to enjoy our beautiful Chesapeake Bay Beaches.

There is a brand new beach access boardwalk and stairway that will allow for easy access to the beach. Parking is along the small road adjacent to our home, just a few steps from your front door, just off of East Ocean View Ave. We are close enough to the beach that occasionally we can hear the waves, but the dune blocks our view. The walk to the beach is less than one minute and there are no streets to cross.

The full bathroom has a combination Shower/Tub. We have a small back deck which is a perfect place for outdoor dining and just relaxing in the shade.

The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, silver, pots/pans, cups and glasses and will allow for cooking family meals. We have a dining table that sits four.

There is a sandy lot next door to us that is perfect for walking your dogs.

Smoking is not allowed inside, however we are perfectly fine with it outside on the deck or porch.

This is a family enterprise and as such we are happy to offer our home to families and smaller groups that are traveling or seeking to enjoy our beautiful beaches. No parties are allowed or tolerated. We do have neighbors close by and everyone is entitled (by law) to the "quiet enjoyment" of their homes - including you as our guest. Please respect your neighbors. Any parties will be immediately shut down and evicted with the full forfeiture of all monies paid as well as the security deposit.

This older little house was perfect for what we needed. You can’t beat the distance to the beach and it’s within minutes of everything you need. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Just what we needed

We loved staying at Sandy Mutts ! Communication was great , location and access to the beach was convenient and perfect as well. We only stayed for a couple of nights but it was just what we needed. We brought our chihuahua and kitty along and they were comfortable and happy. We did bring our own towels and it worked for us. I will definitely be coming back.

No frills beach cottage

It is what was described in the listing, a no frills, small cottage right over the dune from the beach. We did note an unpleasant odor when walking in that's worse in the laundry area, we lit candles and got an air freshener during our stay. Bring your own beach towels as none are provided. It is conveniently located to several breweries and restaurants.

I’d stay here again.

I was here for 2 months of classes and stayed here the entire time. Host was prompt and nice. House was so so on cleanliness, Clean but had a smell. Electric heat was a pain to get set to a good temp. No central air. Area wasn’t bad. Was right next to the beach. Like I said, I’d stay here again.

They changed the house I originally booked and instead it was an apartment. They did this while on the way down ro VA due to construction. I found out this construction wasn’t being done same day either!The new area was so dangerous it was a crackhead apartment. A guy with a ski mask came to the apartment. I have a 4 year old and it was the worst experience ever I’m sticking with Airbnb.

I liked it but it is funky

This isn't a knock because we enjoyed our stay. But you need to have lower standards. It's a funky house that is equipped with the bare minimum of thrift store furnishing. The term Ocean View here refers to the name of the location not the idea that you will be looking at water. The beach and water is several flights up adjacent public stairs to get you over the protective dunes for this house. So with my partners disability that I informed the host of (she can't climb stairs) we never actually got to the beach. But we had the sound and scent of the water and it didn't share a wall with a noisy neighbor so it was better than similarly priced cheap motels in the area. And this place was clean and that can be hard to find at the beach. So thank you for a wonderful low cost and low pressure time.

Bedbugs

As soon as I arrived, I began to get itchy, red welts. These were not mosquito bites. After some research, I suspected these were bedbugs and called a local pest control company to verify. They verified that I had found at least 1 bedbug and there was evidence of an infestation on the bed mattress and cover. I notified the hosts and moved out. I have requested a refund for the 5 nights I was unable to stay there but have received no reply from either the host or VRBO. I understand this is a risk when you have guests but I should have received an immediate refund at the very least. I expect the host to take responsibility for his property. VRBO emails for help get no response so just be aware, as a guest, you are on your own if there are problems. And I would avoid this host unless he can offer proof that the bedbugs are no longer there.

Whether this gross guest had bedbugs or not we can not say. She provided pictures to prove her issue, and the mattresses were not ours nor was the carpet. A complete scam! Once VRBO, with us providing video proof, realized it was a scam, not only was she denied a refund, but is no longer allowed to rent from us. Sometimes we just shake our head and roll our eyes! We love our little beach bungalow as do most of our guests!
