About this property
Romantic 18th Century Olive Mill with Pool, Terrace, Privacy, Air-Conditioning
The Moulin de la Viste is a tastefully restored olive mill built in 1776. With high beamed ceilings, thick stone walls, and a central patio with original mill features it is airy, light, and cool in the summer. The Mill is simply decorated with a combination of modern and antique furniture and original artwork.
The fully fenced, terraced garden faces south with mature trees, bushes, and flowers as well as original mill troughs. There are no immediate neighbors so there is complete privacy in the garden and salt-water pool. A shady terrace by the front door is furnished for outdoor eating right above a babbling brook. There is a Weber charcoal grills and a charcoal-lighting "chimney" for outdoor cooking.
The Mill is in a rural area outside an unspoiled village on a single-lane, winding road 1.5km from the main road amid olive trees and woods and is surrounded by nature. Spend your days by the pool relaxing and reading or visit the many surrounding villages and natural sights on day trips. There are open-air markets almost every day in one of the neighboring towns.
The house is over two hundred years old and was built along a river so that the water would power the millstones that extracted olive oil. Some of those millstones can still be seen in the patio and on the terrace. The Mill's location on a river bank means that it can get damp and may need to be aired out during prolonged days of rain, such as in winter and early spring. However, the summer months are usually dry and sunny and the cool interior provides a welcome respite from the Provençal heat. The house has mini split heating/air conditioning but the A/C is rarely needed.
NEW in 2025:

Please note that because the house is in a very rural setting, sometimes the internet breaks down and cannot be repaired immediately. It is provided by a DSL line and has very little bandwidth. If reliable internet is essential, please do not rent this house.
Every spring, as owners, we go to the Mill to get the house ready for the rental season. We complete any needed repairs, open the pool, and maintain the gardens. The Mill is a special place for us and we want our guests to appreciate it as much as we do. Your comfort and enjoyment are our priority as we prepare the house for the summer months.
Our caretakers will meet you upon arrival. Your beds will be made and linens laid out in the bathrooms and kitchen. We suggest you have your first dinner in the nearby village of Claviers at Restaurant Clavéro.
Take your meals on the terrace overlooking Le Riou, sip your coffee in the warmth of the morning sun. Shade for lunch is provided by an oversized umbrella and lovely trees. Dinner by the light of the setting sun is a relaxing way to end the day. Enjoy the cool evenings on the terrace listening to bird song and gazing at the enchanting Provençal night sky. Rest and rejuvenate at this special place.
PLEASE NOTE: RENTALS ARE ONLY FROM SUNDAY TO SUNDAY. If you are interested in renting the Moulin de la Viste, please include with your request a little bit of information about yourself and the other guests: who you are, where you live, why you wish to rent this house, etc. Thank you!

About the host
Hosted by Andrew Borowiec
I am a photographer based in Akron, Ohio. I was also a university professor for over thirty years.
Why they chose this property
It was love at first sight. The Mill is ideally located with a shady terrace right on a lovely brook, beautifully restored, simple but elegant and in good taste. There are no immediate neighbors but it is not isolated. At night, one can clearly see all the stars, a rare enough sight in our cities.
What makes this property unique
Perfect privacy and calm with a large garden.
This mill, built in 1776, is as old as the United States of America!
The village of Claviers is still unspoiled, unlike many Provencal villages which have been overrun by fancy boutiques and tourist attractions.
