Private Abode on Beautiful Acreage with EV charging available
After turning off 4 mile and driving over the creek, you will arrive at The Bear's Den nestled against the hillside and will enter a spacious open floor plan of a comfortable family room and fully stocked kitchen. There is a private patio to sit and unwind, share meals, and enjoy the quiet and birdsong. There is a gas grill on the patio for your use.
The bedroom boasts a king sized bed, and the bathroom includes a newly remodeled walk in shower with a large glass door.
There is a daybed off the family room to accommodate 2 additional guests in 2 twin size beds. The bathroom is accessible from both the family room and the bedroom.
The Bear's Den is perfect if you are hoping to experience the mountain town life and yet be able to retreat to a quieter space - or if you want to be a 10-minute drive away from Sunlight Ski Resort. The Bear's Den is uniquely located between Glenwood Springs and Sunlight Mountain Resort- each one about 5 miles away on Four Mile Road. The Bear's Den is great for couples but can accommodate up to 4 guests.
Please note that the driveway serves 3 other residences, spread out on more than 10 acres (plus 10 acres of mountainside). The nearest house is 40 yards away. The Bear's Den sits on top of a garage, which is simply used for storage (not cars). We live in the next house over, and we have great relationships with each of our neighbors. The families include children and a few friendly dogs.
Where the driveway crosses the creek, there is a small field on one side (for playing ball and running around), and on the other side an open area with horseshoes and creek access. This area is open to guests as well as neighbors (but you will usually have the space to yourself). There is no fishing at the creek (but there are several rivers in the area that boast world-class fly fishing). In the spring the creek will be much higher, slowing to a meandering stream in the summer.
In the summer, the hike up Ski Sunlight is beautiful and quiet - you will often find yourself the only one there. Four Mile Park offers hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. If you are a runner or biker- Dry Park Road is less than a mile up Four Mile, and offers 8 miles of compacted dirt road which meanders through open ranch land and sagebrush. You can access Carbondale if you keep driving, 11 miles total. This is near the Spring Gulch Nordic Ski Center, a wonderful place to classic or skate ski in the winter.
Ski Resorts: Ski Sunlight is a short ten-minute drive up the road. Sunlight offers a wide variety of terrain, with a friendly local charm. Aspen is forty miles away - and boasts four world-class resorts - Snowmass, Highlands, Buttermilk and Ajax. The crowds in Aspen are minimal compared to the resorts closer to the front range. For more world-class skiing, Vail and Beaver Creek are an hour away to the east.
***Special Note for winter guests - All wheel drive or four-wheel drive autos are required when staying in December, January, and February. Difficult conditions may also exist in November and March. We have the driveway professionally plowed and generally do not have problems. However, inappropriate cars can and do get stuck as elevation changes exist on the driveway as well as the possibility of slick ice and deep snow. Stuck cars do cause problems as the driveway services three separate properties. You are required to provide information about the cars that will be driven during the winter. Guests that become stuck are responsible for all associated costs.***
Glenwood Springs is truly a wonderful vacation spot with all its available activities. We are close to alpine & crosscountry skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, biking, rafting, fishing, shopping, or just soaking in the world famous hot springs... you’ll never run out of things to do! We are a pet friendly property and welcome both short and long terms stays.

We had an awesome stay at the bears den. Wonderful location, quiet area, clean house, and dog friendly. It has everything we needed. We will be back for sure!
Great place, very communicative prior to travel, very close to town but nice and quiet! Had all the essentials we needed while there! Would definitely come back!
It was a nice remote private guest house. The furniture was pretty comfortable, the kitchen is well stocked, and there was plenty of room. I enjoyed my stay!
Clean property, good communication with host and overall, a nice tucked away space with easy access to town and the Sunlight ski area. Cozy house for my family to enjoy a little winter break fun.
We very much enjoyed our stay. We stayed here 17 years ago and were very pleased it has been well taken care of.Check-in was very easy. Though we didn’t cook other than breakfast, kitchen supplies were good quality. We enjoyed biking the Glen Canyon Rec trail, the Rio Grande trail to Aspen and the Hanging Lake hike.
Beautiful location. Very cozy during our October stay! Would love to come here again!

Why they chose this property
This house is just a short walk from our home. This allows us to be nearby if the need arises, but far enough away to provide privacy. With great views, the peaceful sound of the creek and the proximity to the great outdoor adventure, this property is truly special.
What makes this property unique
This property is special because of its location and unique design. It is close to town but also feels rural. You can adjust your plans easily as it is near many different activities. Awesome snow at Sunlight...10 minutes away. Want to go river rafting...10 minutes away. Awesome snow in Aspen...45 minutes away. Want to going for a bike ride...leave from the house or drive a short distance to some beautiful trails and paths. The back road to Carbondale starts a quarter mile away, and meanders through scenic ranch land where you often see elk grazing and the occasional coyote (a great road for biking or running as well).
