This lovely, in-town, first-floor apartment is in a renovated 1800's historic Oak Bluffs cottage with a fenced in landscaped patio. The beautiful stone patio out the kitchen door has plenty of seating, an outdoor shower, 2-person hot tub (please let us know if you think you will use it), propane bbq grill, and an outdoor designer Rais fireplace. The large and sunlit gourmet kitchen has skylights and is the heart of the home.
This apartment accommodates up to 4 guests, with one very petite queen bedroom and a large living room that can be entirely closed off as a separate room, with a queen Crate and Barrel sofa bed. The room can be closed off from the rest of the apartment for privacy with glass french windows and doors and curtains, and can have a separate entrance as well. The very large country kitchen with every amenity you could hope for.
There is one full bath (with tub/shower) in the apartment, and one additional shower outside, that I have heard is many guests favorite part of their stay! Outdoor showers are a wonderful Martha's Vineyard tradition.
Most guests find this home to be a generally quiet oasis for being right in the center of town, but just a reminder that the house IS in the center of town, just not on the main shopping drag. ;)
Quiet hours are 9pm to 9am.
One more thing for you dog owners! We LOVE dogs and this property is selectively dog friendly (no cats, sorry!!). If you'd like to bring your doggo along, you must ask us first, so we can be sure you agree to our pet guidelines. THANK YOU!
This testimonial below says it all : )
"This is a heart house with amazing craftsmanship deep to the bones of the space. Sharon has poured her heart and soul into this place over 10 years, and is now renting out the space for others to experience. The quality and feeling of the space is amazingly restful. The space is BEAUTIFUL, and the main living room feels like a ship. My boyfriend is an engineer by trade, and a meticulous craftsman in all else, and he loved the floors, walls, beams, space, Viking stove, fridge, cabinets -- everything done to great and fine detail. We rented this space as our family was staying nearby -- 16 of them in one house -- and we wanted our own retreat. It was perfect. I loved the front gate with the roses, the two-person hot tub, the outdoor shower, and the courtyard where we cracked crab. And Sharon herself is an amazing person, who supplied us with all the guidance and resources for an amazing trip. Perfect. This is also a place I would feel quite peaceful in renting alone as a solo woman traveler (I do a fair bit of travel). It just feels safe and lovely; restorative." - Kirstin

------------------------ House Story:
I fell in love with this house the minute I saw it. It took me a full winter to be able to be able to call it my own, because when I made the offer the owner was concerned about disappointing someone else, though they had was no contract at all. She was so kind, she spent a few months trying to find this person, who was out of the country and difficult to track down. In the meantime, she knew how much I loved the house, and after several long months she called to say it was mine if I still wanted it, and I could take a few days to let her know. I told her I didn’t even need a few minutes. No other house that I had seen captured my heart as this one had.
It took great amounts of work to prep this house to be my massage center, as it would be for some years before I could make it my home. One day, at my other massage center in Vineyard Haven, I interviewed a lovely massage therapist from Louisiana. I had no idea she had MV ties, but I instantly adored her and her work and hired her on the spot and sent her here to do a massage. Twenty minutes passed, and the phone rang. “You are not going to believe this, Sharon, but this is the house my grandmother grew up in.”
Oma (grandmother in German), came right over the next day from West Tisbury, where she then summered, brought me this photo of her parents and this house as it was in 1908, and gave me a tour of the house, telling me where all the original details used to be. Oma was beautiful, and her granddaughter is beautiful, as was the previous owner. I just kept feeling that it was no wonder that it feels so special in here. Since that time, my friends, family and guests have only added to that feeling. Time and time again, people walk in and comment on the energy of the home. I feel it deeply myself.
To top off all of this wonder, the last bit of amazement for me was the dog in the photo - a dog with a half black and half white face, split down the middle. On the other side of the couch, you can see the photo of my dog, Haffa, at the time. A dog with a half black and half white face, split down the middle, almost 100 years later.
Life is magical, mysterious and beyond imagination.

We had the most amazing time! Everything was perfect. Couldn't have asked her better location or a host. The communication was excellent. Highly recommend!
I felt very welcome and really enjoyed and appreciated all the personal touches. The house is charming and we particularly enjoyed the patio/garden.
A lovely stay.

Char, it was delightful meeting you! Hope to see you around the Island in the future : )
We stayed a week and thoroughly enjoyed our time in this cottage. It ’s bright and welcoming. Conveniently walkable to shops, the beach, coffee and food. Very thoughtful owners who have taken good care of this home. Oak Bluffs is a great point of departure for the rest of MV too. Very highly recommend this property.
This was the most charming VRBO I've ever been in. It was within walking distance of any place I wanted to be. My son said, " if this was your house you would decorate it just like this." Perfect stay for a bucket list trip with your adult son, we had a great time!
Highly recommend this property for its proximity to Circuit Ave in Oak Bluffs and the beautiful beaches! The kitchen is gorgeous and it was great to have beach chairs, cooler, umbrellas, etc. provided by the host. It made our mini-vacation so much easier! We had a wonderful stay and will be back! Thank you!

Great home. VRBO app is a very poor way to communicate with owners.
Don’t hesitate to book this property… if you have a car, you won’t need it. If you don’t have a car, this is a great place to land. We brought our car and explored the island for 6 days.
It was truly so relaxing to come back to this gem every afternoon.
Do you cook? They have everything you need!
A great spot … perfect hosts and incredibly comfortable ❤️
WOW! I was meant to stay at this beautiful location. I decided on a solo trip with my dog for some needed R&R. This beautiful home welcomed us! I can't believe how close the home is to the water, the shops, restaurants, a large park, the beach... It really is the perfect location, snuggled in a cozy neighborhood. The home was very well stocked with whatever you would need. In fact, I really appreciated that I felt like a guest in a HOME. The decor is my absolute style. It felt like my dream home. I loved the fenced in private patio area. Perfect for opening the door to the outdoors and not worrying about my dog. Communication was great and they were very responsive to my questions. I hope to return.
This being our first time on MV, I had done some research on the different towns and thought I felt prepared for what to expect. I will say, I underestimated the liveliness of Oak Bluffs. All this to say that the house was amazing and the second I walked in and got that smell of salt air mixed with the wood, it brought me back to my childhood beach vacations. The house had every amenity we could think of and the hosts were fantastic. We did have neighbors staying in the upstairs apartment and they were there for the nightlife. They weren’t loud, but due to the creaky floors, we could hear them coming home from a fun night out each night. Additionally, the house is set on a very busy street that is basically a thoroughfare for trucks to bring supplies to businesses so their routes start around 5AM. Between the late night wake ups and the early morning wake ups, we didn’t get as restful nights of sleep as we had hoped. I will say, the location was convenient to the shops and restaurants so I know location can come with a price. I think it’s good to know for folks who may not be heavy sleepers or those with pets or children that the noise may affect your sleep. We just know for our next stay to look at renting the upstairs unit in addition to the downstairs and bring some earplugs. We did, however, absolutely love the quaintness of the home. The landscaping was beautiful and the backyard patio was such a nice spot to relax and unwind with a glass of wine.
This home is a special place. There are so many personal touches in this house that lend to a very comfortable stay. If you chose to stay here and experience this space you will understand my comments. Sharon has thought of everything and chosen high end accessories which are throughout. Anything you could need is at hand. The bed is very comfortable and the sheets are high quality. The outdoor patio area is quiet and private. This property is only a 3 minute walk to a small market that has all the basics and a great meat shop as well. Be sure to visit Backdoor Donuts which is located at the end of the parking lot for the market. It is literally the back door for the donut bakery which opens after 8pm. Freshly made donuts are the big attraction and very popular which creates a line worth the wait. Staying here you are close to everything in Oak Bluffs. A short walk is all that separates you from dining, shopping, and the waterfront. We will be back for sure. One final note: Be sure to take the short drive (30 mins) to Menemsha Public Beach for sunset. It's an experience you won't forget. Bring your camera!
Fantastic property for exploring Martha's Vineyard. Clean with everything you need and more. If you take a car to MV, having the parking space is like gold. Thanks, Sharon, we can't wait to go back!

Everything at your fingertips in the most charming setting!
This is a very special property. A true home away from home. We loved the central location in Oak Bluffs within easy walking distance of tons of restaurants, bars, the Ocean Park, island busses, the Harbor and the Ferry Dock.
Sharon’s attention to detail is on display from the moment you walk in the door. The filtered water was a favorite touch of mine. This house feels loved and that is apparent immediately.
The only thing I would say is maybe having several sets of sheets and towels would help with the rush to do laundry before 10 AM on the day of departure. However the washer and dryer are industrial and very fast. I also understand with seasonal rentals the luxury of having linens provided is not usual, but as a three day renter coming from Texas it was essential for us.
This home has everything you need and more, you won’t be disappointed.

Perfect getaway in an incredible location!
Our stay at this house was incredible. It’s the perfect little spot right in the middle of everything, including the beach! No car is even needed to get around and the house itself looks even better in person. Sharon is an incredible host and provides everything needed. I would return in a heartbeat and recommend this place to anybody!

Amazing place - a quiet oasis in the hear of Oak Bluffs!
The apartment was as beautiful and welcoming as it is in the photos - except I was expecting tiny and while it has a cozy bedroom there is a huge kitchen/dining and great living room! It is equipped with everything you could hope for - from linens, cookware, grill, beach chairs and umbrellas for the sun-sensitive! The best feature is certainly the back patio tucked away from the street - it has a grill, hot tub and a fantastic outdoor shower. I never even used the inside one. This is one street off the main shopping/dining and just 3 blocks to the water and harbor. Groceries are 4 doors down. The upstairs floors are definitely creaky, but this is something we are used to so it didn't bother us. We will definitely stay here when we are back in town! Plus the owner or manager were really helpful with our questions before and during our stay. What a great find!

Cozy launch pad for MV activities
This is a great location within walking distance of the major activities in Oak Bluffs. Kitchen has everything you need to make meals in the house, including nice appliances. Owner is super nice and responsive. Perfect for a single family. If vacationing with two couples, I recommend renting the upstairs unit with it so each couple can have a bedroom. Very clean and well maintained.

Wonderful get away retreat
We enjoyed a wonderful long weekend in Martha's Vineyard, first time, and staying at this home made it even more enjoyable. At first I was a little concerned about the low ceilings from the pictures, but it was not a problem at all. It was very quaint, and a fantastic location, making it walk-able to many of the attraction (however I will forewarn you, a little to accessible to the Back Door do-nut shop). The back patio was very nice and an added bonus, a hot tub that I didn't realize at the time of rental. We had a few technical difficulties, but Sharon was on top of the issues and very accommodating. Go for it, you will love the house!

A+++ Vacation, Property, Owner and Response Time
First time on Martha's Vineyard! This place had it all and was in the best location. You truly can smell the donuts from BackDoor across the street and we made numerous trips there. Everything is in walking distance and I would highly recommend the bus to get from town to town. We didn't need a car to see it all! Sharon was very helpful and extremely communicative before, during and after our stay. We truly felt like an extension of her family; not just visitors. Take advantage of the 2 person hot tub after a long day out and about. It was so nice! The house was perfect for us and if we stayed longer, would have loved to cook in the well equipped kitchen. Would highly recommend staying at Sharon's place. We will be back for sure!

Delightful apartment for exploring MV
We thoroughly enjoyed this apartment as a jumping off point for our first ever MV visit. It was comfortable and well outfitted, and ideally located just a couple of blocks from all the shops and restaurants of Oak Bluffs (and sinfully close to the temptations of Back Door Donuts) and just a short walk from the wonderful ocean views. We rented a car which allowed us to visit many different corners of the island (the beaches at Long Point Wildlife Refuge were a special favorite), and the pre- to post-Labor Day transition allowed us to experience the island charms both busy and quiet. All in all, a great experience, and we would certainly return to the island (and this apartment) in the future, and recommend it to friends and family.

All the right touches of home
I really can't say enough about Sharon's attention to detail. She is a wonderful host and has included small touches everywhere that made this the most welcoming spot we have stayed in many years of visiting the Vineyard. It is clear that she genuinely wants you to have a wonderful experience, and her authenticity shines through in every interaction.
The listing was perfectly accurate, Sharon's communication prior to arrival was spot-on, and I would absolutely recommend this wonderful home to anyone who appreciates honest communication and sheer loveliness.
The location is truly perfect, I ate way too many donuts from Back Door Donuts (you can smell them from the house!), and loved stopping it at Offshore for some of the best craft beer in Massachusetts (food is only so-so, but the beer - to die for). The kitchen is a dream. If you plan to cook on your holiday, this is the place. There are more than the bare essentials, making it the best kitchen we have encountered on MV. In addition to being well-appointed, it is designed to encourage conversation and gathering, as a kitchen should be! Hands down, though, the best part of this little gem is that Sharon welcomes and includes pets in the experience. Like many dog-lovers, our pup is a member of our family, and we wouldn't dream of staying in a place where she could not also be. She was welcome and cozy here.
You will not find a better owner or property in Oak Bluffs and maybe not on all of the Vineyard.
Tips for MV: don't drive! There are way too many cars taking over the island! Take advantage of the Vineyard's many land bank properties and walking trails. And the VTA bus system is a dream. It is reliable and friendly.
Things to note (that Sharon has no control over): Oak Bluffs has its share of skunks. They are out in full force in the evenings. If you do bring your pooch, be on the lookout! Also, inexplicably, the Vineyard does not yet have community composting. This is a real waste for a place that is apparently committed to the environment. Something to be aware of if you cook a lot!

A Home Away from Home
The words that come to mind are care, taste, and integrity. Sharon, really cares for her guests and she has done so by attending to details to ensure an enjoyable stay. This is a well kept and a very well appointed home. It has all the necessary amenities and is really just lovely. This home is conveniently located in town and, yet, has a private feel. Also, wonderful, is that Sharon truly makes herself available to guests and is never intrusive. At the risk of this property not be available when I wish to return, I highly recommend it.

About the host
Hosted by Sharon Strimling
I have lived on Martha's Vineyard full time for 20 years now, but vacationed there as a child. Martha's Vineyard has always been a very special place to me, and I love it dearly. I found this home about 12 years ago and fell in love with it immediately. A massage therapist on Martha's Vineyard, voted 'Best of the Vineyard' in the Vineyard Gazette, I once did massage out of this house, and people adored being there for their massages! You will see - the home is a true, historic beauty, and has a special feeling to it as well.
My favorite morning routine is to go for a run through the beautiful nature trails a short jog away, have a healthy smoothie in the hot tub, and then walk down the street to the local coffee shop for a wonderful cup of tea and to say hi to the locals gathering there. My nieces and nephews on the other hand, get far more excited about the late afternoon or after dinner walk down to the arcade and ice cream shop to lick their ice cream cones while watching the nightlife walk by on Circuit Ave! Oh - and of course, the two movie theaters down the street call to them from time to time as well!
Why they chose this property
There is no location on Martha's Vineyard like downtown Oak Bluffs, and nowhere in the world I would rather be. With the coffee shops, restaurants and shops in town, the beach just a couple of blocks away, Ocean park separating the house from the ocean, the Tabernacle a block in the other direction, the Flying Horses carousel for children, Union Chapel with its performances and the harbor just down the street, it just doesn't get any better than this. I will never look to be in any other location on Martha's Vineyard than in the charming and lively town of Oak Bluffs!
What makes this property unique
House call massage at this rental is available by appointment. Appointments should be booked well in advance to assure availability.
