About this property
Private Lake Michigan Beach! Breathtaking Sunsets! Fantastic Family Fun!
Located on the shore of Lake Michigan, Windswept is a large summer vacation rental home with a private beachfront.
Not 'near' or 'across from' or 'access to' the beach. This is the real thing, YOUR private beach ready for swimming, beachcombing or night bonfires.
There is no cliff - just spill out the front door and you're at the beach.
Spend time hiking out onto the south breakwall to watch the Lake Michigan carferry S.S. Badger approach at sunset. Chances are a southwest breeze will stir up the surf, providing the best night's sleep you've had in a long time.
Windswept is family-owned with four bedrooms and one-and-a-half baths. It is a summer cottage in Ludington, Michigan on a peninsula between Lake Michigan and Pere Marquette Lake.
Enjoy the people, activities and relaxed pace of Ludington, Pentwater and Manistee. Take advantage of the golf, fishing, antiquing, swimming, sailing, horseback riding, beachcombing, fairs and all the best Western Michigan has to offer.

About the host
Hosted by Sue Black

Our cottage is owned by the Moloney and extended Moloney families. It is managed and enjoyed by Helen (aka 'Mom'), Lynn, George, Susan, Anne and Brian.
We've owned the cottage since 1971, but there is very little left of the original. In the past several years we've replaced all the windows, the deck, the roof, gutted and rebuilt the kitchen and main bathroom, replaced the floor, updated electrical and replaced the furnace. We've kept it updated for our families to enjoy, as well as yours!

Why they chose this property
The Moloney history and love affair with Ludington is in its 4th generation. Over the years we've moved around, grown up, married, had kids and become immersed in the day-to-day. But, every summer, we reconnect with this special place and remember what it was like to be a kid.
We have watched our own children build sand castles in the same places we did and we remember how important Ludington is to our family.
It is a refuge where we can get away from it all and spend some time on the simple pleasures. Like, what to grill for dinner, eating together, making sure we're on the deck to watch the sunset, bonfires with s'mores, catching crayfish on the breakwall with makeshift nets and watching the S.S. Badger come and go.

What makes this property unique
The family traditions abound during the summer. Ice cream at House of Flavors is a main staple, a daytrip to Pentwater, looking for the Badger's puff of smoke on the horizon and walking to greet it at the end of the breakwall. The walk to Big Point Sable lighthouse in Ludington State Park is wonderful, as is a day hike within the Manistee National Forest. Pere Marquette river is one of the best fishing spots in the Midwest. When the salmon are running, fishing boats stream out of the harbor (sometimes to the dismay of the S.S Badger as it arrives). As a working harbor, you never know what kinds of barges and freighters will make Ludington home for a bit before moving on.
Mostly, there is the beach. No crowd, no rules - just your own private place to enjoy.
