The bunker-style home on our Palo Duro Canyon Base Camp compound near Canyon, TX. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a full kitchen, sized for a family of 6 or a small canyon-trip crew. Pet-friendly with prior approval. Indoor fireplace for cool nights, garage for gear, and complimentary golf access at the neighboring course. Stand-alone stay, or pair it with the main home, a tiny home, or the airstream on the same compound for a bigger group booking.
The Space:
The Bunker is one of three sleeping buildings on our Canyon, TX compound. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, three beds, comfortable for 6 guests. Designed as the family-and-kids cabin of the property, with a layout that works for parents with younger kids, a hunting or fishing crew, or grandparents who want a quieter wing while the rest of the group books the main home next door.
Inside, an indoor fireplace anchors the living area. The kitchen is fully equipped: stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, blender, cookware, dishes and silverware, wine glasses, baking sheet, and barbeque utensils. Dining table seats the group together. Washer and dryer are in the unit for post-trail laundry and longer canyon trips. Wireless internet throughout. A laptop-friendly workspace is set up for anyone who has to clock in between hikes.
Bathrooms are stocked with bed linens, towels, hair dryer, hangers, and iron. Heating and air conditioning handle the West Texas weather range from January cold fronts to July afternoons.
A garage gives you secure storage for bikes, golf clubs, fishing gear, or muddy boots after a Lighthouse Trail morning. Complimentary golf at the neighboring course is included. The Bunker is on the compound but has its own private entry, so the family inside has its own rhythm.
This cabin is pet-friendly with prior approval and a pet fee. Suitable for kids 2 to 12 and infants under 2, with smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, a first aid kit, and fire extinguisher on site.
The Bunker can be booked stand-alone for groups up to 6, or paired with the main home for an extended family of 12, or rolled into the full compound booking for a group of up to 28.
Guest Access:
You will have private access to the Bunker: all three bedrooms, both bathrooms, the kitchen, living area, dining area, garage, and private entry. Self check-in. We send access details, a parking map, and a brief orientation a day before arrival so the family can drop bags and settle in.
The Neighborhood:
We sit in Canyon, TX, the town built around Palo Duro Canyon State Park. The main park entrance off State Highway 217 is a short drive from our gate, which puts the Lighthouse Trail and the canyon rim road in easy reach. From June through August, the TEXAS Outdoor Musical at Pioneer Amphitheatre runs Tuesday through Sunday at 8pm inside the park. Downtown Canyon has the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, West Texas A&M University, and a handful of local BBQ and Tex-Mex spots. Amarillo is a short drive north on I-27 for the Big Texan Steak Ranch and Cadillac Ranch off I-40. Out here, days are for canyon rim hikes and tee times, and nights are for fireplace conversations and stars.
Getting Around:
A rental car is required. Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport (AMA) is the closest commercial airport, with a straightforward drive south on I-27 to Canyon, then west on Country Club Road to the property. Rideshare in Canyon is limited, so plan on at least one vehicle for the family.
Other Things to Note:
This is a rural property at the edge of the canyon, shared with our other compound buildings. Expect real darkness at night, wildlife at dawn, and quiet that city ears take a day to settle into. Cell signal varies by carrier on the acreage, so wifi calling is helpful. Pets must be supervised on the unfenced shared acreage.
Interaction with Guests:
We respect your privacy. No one is on site full-time. Our team is on call from early morning to late evening Texas time and typically responds within an hour during the day. Message us through the booking platform for anything from a thermostat question to a recommendation for dinner in Canyon.

About the host
Hosted by Angel Mendoza
Hey, we are the Mendoza’s!
My family migrated to the US when I was 3 years old and I have been living in Amarillo since! My wife was born and raised here in the good ole city of Amarillo.
My wife and I met at the age of 4 at a small local church here and by the age of 12, I had already swooped her off her feet and by the age 24, I walked her down the isle to take her as my wife.
We are now in our 30’s with 2 boys and with our hands full!
We are fun and easy going people who are always down for an adventure.
As long time residents of this rapid growing city, we can guide you to the best places to eat, all the great hole in the walls, and the what to dos!
