Buffalo Wallow Cabin at The Lazy Buffalo Hunting Pet Friendly Wichita Mountains
The Buffalo Wallow Cabin is named after the fascinating bowl like depressions made by wallowing herds of bison as they roll on the ground in a dust bath. Buffalo Wallows still dot the prairie today and play an important role in the ecosystem.
Nestled at the foothills of the Wichita Mountains, The Lazy Buffalo has 13 uniquely themed Cabins. We are excited to offer our first pet friendly cabin. The Buffalo Wallow Cabin accommodates 4 guests plus your furry companion.
Many say that The Lazy Buffalo resembles an Old West Town. Our Cabins are similar to a classic motel layout. There are charming touches throughout the property along with modern offerings such as Wi-fi, Netflix, and the convenience of self check in.
A full-size tiled shower is offered along with a separate vanity area. The kitchenette area has a mini fridge and microwave along with table and chairs. Knotty pine and corrugated tin are used throughout the space. The wood tiled floors paired with the tin ceilings throughout really add a rustic touch. With its eye-catching orange camo comforters and unique wood decor, the space has all the feels of a hunting lodge.
During your stay, enjoy complimentary Netflix and Wi-Fi or unplug and take in the beauty of our area. Oklahoma Sunsets are truly beautiful. Sip on a cup of coffee to get your morning started right and end your adventurous day gathered around the picnic tables while enjoying smells from the charcoal grill. Yummy marshmallow goodness at the fire pit is a memorable way to cap off the evening or relax under the stars in the back of our vintage star gazing truck, located just a short walk from the cabin.
Both kids and adults will love tossing horseshoes and playing old fashion games. Toss Frisbees at the disc golf stations, drop giant checkers to make a Connect 4, create music at our interactive music wall, or team up for some volleyball action. We are always adding new outdoor activities. Don't forget to snap some memories at The Lazy Buffalo photo ops.

We had our 80lb Aussie mix as well as our 1 year old son with us and all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was also a short and direct drive to the Wichita mountain wildlife preserve where we spent the majority of our time. It was super convenient to come back to the cabin for our son’s nap time. I would 1000% recommend this cabin and will definitely stay there again if we ’re ever back in the area!
So cozy and comfortable, really appreciated the little details! From the dogs bowls to the birthday sign made for my son. Great location, great place to stay!
Everything was super clean, the decor was well thawed out. The host was very welcoming and always available. We loved being so close to the wildlife refuge. I highly recommend.
Our cabin was cozy, clean, and just perfect — everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. We loved the old truck that had chairs in the back bed for stargazing and watching the sunset and sunrise! Great location, and the hosts were so friendly and helpful. It was definitely pet friendly. We’ll definitely be staying here again.
We had a great stay at The Lazy Buffalo! The ladies that own and operate the property were prompt at problem solving a minor issue with our stay. It was overall worth the trip!
The stay was great! Had a light issue over sink and owner was right on it to fix it. Great area for our dog to roam with beautiful sunrises and sunsets!
Cabin was VERY comfy! Very cool decor and the snack bowl was a very nice touch! Every thing was wonderful! We were supposed to bring a dog, but opted out at last minute. There was a courtesy food and water bowl for a pet, which I thought was fantastic! We were in town for our daughter's graduation from boot camp at Ft. Sill. The drive from the cabin to the gate was 20 minutes. Nice and easy. 10/10! If we return to the area soon, which we may, we will definitely book again!
We had to change our plans last minute and found the Lazy Buffalo by sheer luck. Turning into the driveway, we could tell that thought would be put into every little detail. The pet friendly cabins are toward the back and the atmosphere was super quiet and relaxing. Our favorite thing was the stargazing deck. What an awesome touch! Once inside the cabin, it was clean and efficient. It even had pet bowls for our Pupper! The snacks and cold water were great, but the book of information was the best part, especially when a loud boom rattled the place and we had already read that this is normal for the area. The beds were super comfortable and the close proximity to the Wildlife preserve makes this a place we will come back to!

My Rating
Clean except for the shower, it had hair by the drain. Only sink was very rusty. The cabinet it set on was way to high for a child or a short adult. TV was way too small for the room.

About the host
Hosted by Tanya Goodman
We have lived in Southwest Oklahoma for over 60 years and love our hometown of Cache. The Wichita Mountains are right in our backyard, and we get to enjoy their beauty every day.
In 2019, The Lazy Buffalo opened with 5 vacation rental Cabins. These Cabins were designed to capture the essence of the Wichita Mountains and the history of our hometown. In 2021, the Venue with Bunkhouse opened, and we carried over the same western vibe when designing the 2400 square foot space. Throughout 2022 and 2023, we opened 6 more Cabins and in late 2023 our first set of pet friendly Cabins opened. Conveniently connected by sidewalks, it's just a short stroll being the bunkhouse, our Cabins, and 24 hour guest laundry. All together, we can accommodate up to 49 guests among the 13 Cabins and Bunkhouse.
We are blessed to be family owned and managed. Our favorite thing about hosting is seeing multi-generation Families gathered around sharing quality time together. Should you need anything, our home is only 2 blocks from the Cabins. We hope you make wonderful memories while staying at The Lazy Buffalo.
