This was our favorite stay on the Big Island! The house is perfect. Clearly, someone put a lot of thought into the decor. There is so much to look at! It is clean, and stocked with everything you might need. The fruit was a nice touch. We have never tasted bananas like that before! We forgot to bring binoculars, and were so pleased to see a pair before we went on the birding trail. 10/10 would highly recommend.

This is a beautiful place in a secluded tropical forest. Convenient to Volcanoes National Park. It is completely off grid so don't expect appliances like microwave and toaster. Host communication was excellent. Be aware that the road getting to the location can be a bit rough. Our minivan did ok, but an SUV or truck would have been better. We chose the location for stargazing which I'm sure would have been amazing but the weather didn't cooperate. It rained every day almost all day. Wish we had more time to catch a glimpse of the Milky Way.

Volcano Home was an amazing place to stay! Coming back each evening after exploring Volcano park and other Hilo sites was a treat! The place is so peaceful! There are too many extras perks about this place to list but our kids especially loved all the indoor and outdoor games! The kitchen was extremely well stocked with anything you could need! Thank you Joshua and Geneva for being such great hosts!

We had an excellent 1 week stay at this property. The owners/hosts are very caring couple, and they will make sure you are comfortable and safe. We stayed with 2 kids and the house offered many games for the kids. The veranda is excellent for relaxing. The kitchen is ready for cooking, and you will find many spices and other things required to prepare your meals. The house is independent of the county utilities - water, electric, and satellite internet - all works perfect - thanks to the off the grid design. The location offers quick access to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and an easy drive to Hilo. The house offers 100% privacy - we did enjoy that a lot. We were fully pleased with the property and remain thankful to the owners that shared this home with us. Mahalo Joshua and Geneva for making our stay so comfortable! We will always remember your Volcano Home! Aloha!

We were in Volcano for a family wedding, and this house was the perfect size for our group. The house was just like the pictures - clean, comfortable and well stocked with anything you need. The bonus of being off grid also helped with the Kona low storm - we had power throughout. The hosts were so thoughtful and sweet.

This house was one of the most fully equipped houses I havve ever rented - and with quality pots/pans & dinnerware. They had everything I needed to cook for a family of four. This was an amazing place to stay. They thought of all the details and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Their artistic touches throughout the property made it extra special. Excellent choice for families who would like to experience nature comfortably with small children who can’t camp yet. Joshua and Geneva are amazing hosts. Awesome hosts, private setting, convenient location, everything you couls possibly need. If you like any of these things with the places you stay, then Volcano Home is the place for you. Joshua and Geneva made sure we were able to get situated fine as well as took the time to give us an excellent rundown on all that was available to do. Such great personalities. Staying at this house really was like being invited to a close relatives house who provides everything and then goes on vacation leaving the place cleaned up and ready for you. Of we had an extra day we would have just had a day where we hung around the house. It really is that great. If we make it back to Big Island the ln we will be staying here again and of course recommending to anyone else we find out is going there.

Great Attention to Detail

Beautifully decorated with fresh plants/flowers. Nice secluded location just a few minutes from the volcano. The owner notified us on our first morning that a new eruption had started earlier; and we were able to make it there to witness it. Loved the shower and the comfortable beds. Provided lots of vacation supplies (such as umbrellas and snorkel gear) and a well stocked food pantry.

Truly beautiful off grid home with all you need for a comfortable, peaceful stay! The welcome fruit and goodies was a special surprise and very much appreciated! Just a short drive to Volcano National Park which enabled us to see it at night as well as during the day. Really enjoyed the stargazing in the beautiful, clear night sky. The beds were super comfy! Highly recommend!!

Quality Home in the Rainforest

The Volcano Home has a rugged sense of utility in its architecture, without losing a hint of homeliness or convenience. The area itself is quite rural, with gravel road crisscrossing dense rainforest. The hosts stock the kitchen, bath, and rooms with plenty of conveniences that might have been forgotten.

Once in a lifetime stay

This property has absolutely everything you need (and so much more) for a quiet & comfortable stay. We traveled with our one and a half year old and we truly could’ve packed a sack of clothes for him and been aye okay during our stay here with all the great amenities they had stocked up. You could true heart and soul went into this property and I can say without a shadow of a doubt, this is by far one of the best short term rentals we have ever stayed at! The quiet neighborhood and convenience to the national park was exactly what we were looking for during our first part of our Big Island trip. Definitely don’t skip on staying at the Volcano Home!

This was one of the coolest rental properties I've ever stayed in. We were fortunate to arrive while Joshua was still there, and he gave us a tour of the property, highlighting some of the features (architectural, art, etc) that he and his wife have loving put into this rental. The house was so well equipped, we were sorry we didn't have many more days to stay and enjoy the property; from the games, movies, beach gear and fully stocked pantry, every detail has been thoughtfully curated. Location was remote, but Joshua's instructions get you directly there, and it's only 20 mins from the Volcanoes National park. NOTE: If you are lucky enough to be visiting during an eruption, it will take you FAR longer to get into the park. It took us 1.5 hours, but was an absolutely amazing experience. HIGHLY recommend booking this ASAP!

Volcano Home was a true labor of love, built by Joshua and Geneva over the course of a year and a half.

VOLCANO HOME is OFF GRID. It is located in an AGRICULTURAL NEIGHBORHOOD & SITS ROUGHLY 1.5 MILES DOWN A MAINTAINED GRAVEL ROAD. We are roughly 20 minutes from the entrance to Volcanoes National Park.

Inspired by the surrounding rainforest, Joshua designed and handcrafted many of the home’s unique features — from the custom cabinetry and furniture to the artwork displayed throughout. Every detail reflects his artistic vision and connection to nature.

What makes this property unique

Volcano Home was built by Joshua and Geneva over a year and a half. Joshua has used the nature to inspire the design of the home as well as the many custom touches inside the home. All the cabinets, most of the furniture and and artwork was designed and created by Joshua specifically for this home.


Being Off Grid, the home is Powered by Solar/Batteries. Water is provided by filtering captured Rain Water. All water heating and cooking is done with propane.
